| Top albums of 06
The top 7 albums of the first 7 months of 2006 | 1 | | Rise Against The Sufferer and the Witness
Rise Against have always been favorites of mine, especially within their genre. They have such a unique sound, wonderfully written lyrics, and carry a strong message in a variety of ways. With this rock solid album, none of that changed and they released one mother of a record. | 2 | | underOATH Define the Great Line
Trash the pop-core labels, underOATH came correct in 06 with the release of Define the Great Line. From the moment I heard Writing on the Walls I knew this album would be wonderful. The screaming has improved, the singing is delightful, and the general sound of the band contains a much greater depth than on TOCS. Easily a highlight of the band's career. | 3 | | From First to Last Heroine
After building up quite the fan base with Dear Diary, From First to Last returned creating a completely different sounding album. Things have quite the darker atmosphere. Sonny's vocals are the crown jewel of the album but he gets a great amount of assistance from the rest of the band as they create a quite the record. | 4 | | In Flames Come Clarity
Whoa where did this come from?! I am no In Flames expert, this is the first time hearing them and man was I impressed. The vocals are just amazingly diverse and are backed with solid riffing, soloing, and harmonies. Plus the title track is just an awe-inspiring song for me, I get chill bumps evertime I hear the solo kick in. | 5 | | Patent Pending Save Each Other, The Whales Are Doing Fine
Ah my boys, I love this band straight up. After seeing them at a pretty low key fesitval last year I kept up with them and knew they were releasing this. I was even more shocked when I found it at Best Buy. Once more I was impressed with the actual record itself. Wonderfully exectued pop punk with hints of humor throughout. | 6 | | The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus Don't You Fake It
I heard the single Face Down one day somewhere and was sold. The band had something about them that was special. Vocals are fantastic on both ends and the instrumental work is solid for the genre. This band will be huge one day if they keep up the pace set by their debut. | 7 | | Anti-Flag For Blood and Empire
Never in a million years would I have thought Anti-Flag would interest me this year. Their latest release has done just that. Superb bass lines, nicely written guitar riffs, smoking solos, and the same catchy sound carrying messages of unity and peace that the band has always brought to the table are revealed stronger than ever. | |
