Recession Woes Getting You Down?

Are you sick of everyone calling it the "Credit Crunch" as if it's some kind of breakfast cereal, while your pockets are graced with little more than small change, and your CD collection lies un-growing? Well fear not! For your friendly neighbourhood spoon_of_grimbo is here to guide you through a range of badass albums that you can buy used/new for under £2.50 on amazon.co.uk!!!
1The Blueprint
Phenomenology

A powerful blend of melodic hardcore and metal, featuring ex-members of Consumed and earthtone9. From 99p.
2In Pieces
Lions Write History

If you like atmospheric post-hardcore in the vein of Thrice's "Vheissu," then you owe it to yourself to get this. And how could you refuse, when it's going for a mere £1?
3Sugar
Copper Blue

A solid alt-rock album featuring Bob Mould of Husker Du fame, from £1.75.
4 A
Hi-Fi Serious

Sturdy pop-rock with huge catchy melodies and the odd heavy-ass riff. Very enjoyable album, and it'll only cost you A PENNY!
5 Plate Six
Battle Hymns for a New Republic

Weird trippy post-hardcore. Takes a few listens to get into, but if you're in the right mood, it's not bad. Especially not since it's also going for one penny.
6Idlewild
100 Broken Windows

A satisfyingly varied blend of indie-rock, post-punk and pop-melodies, from as little as 99p! (Their other albums are also available for a similar price).
7Suicide Machines
Steal This Record

IMO their best album, a perfect mix of hardcore, pop-punk and ska, chunky production and all for as little as 99p.
8Crowpath
Son of Sulphur

Ridiculously abrasive grindcore with a couple of sludge-metal tracks thrown in for good measture. It may be brutal on your ears, but not on your pocket, for a mere £2.49!
9Therapy?
Semi-Detached

My personal favourite T? album (although the two that preceded it, "Troublegum" and "Nurse" are also great and available for a similarly low price), it's melodic 90s rock at it's finest, for just £1.45.
10The Wildhearts
The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed

Their poppiest album, for sure, and arguably not one of their best, but are you really going to complain when it's only £1.05? And let's be honest, they've never made a bad album, so you're not going to be dissappointed.
11The Manic Street Preachers
Generation Terrorists

If you've only heard their more recent material, you'll be shocked by the relative awesomeness of this, the Manics' debut full-length, packed full of G'n'R-esque riffs, huge melodies, attitude, political ire, and available to you, ladies and gentlemen, for a mere 49pennies.
12 earthtone9
Hi-Point EP

For less than the price of a mars bar, you can witness one of the UK's finest metal bands, sadly no longer with us, twisting nu-metal into interesting and dynamic shapes. Just 49p, kids!
13Alkaline Trio
From Here to Infirmary

You know what these guys sound like right? Well this is the album that kinda bridges their older, rawer sound and their newer, more polished sound. And it's probably their best IMO. Only £2.27
14The Letters Organize
Dead Rhythm Machine

Spastic rock'n'roll influenced hardcore, in a similar vein to The Bronx's older material, and with strangely cool artwork. All that badassitude for just £1.10!
15 Days of Worth
The Western Mechanism

Remember Hell is for Heroes? These guys sound kinda like them, albeit a little poppier. They were tipped for big things but cracked under the pressure and fucked off. Discover what you missed for 74p.
16Feeder
Polythene

A classic British pop-rock album, and easily their best. If you had them pegged as a lightweight indie-rock band off the back of their most recent releases, pick this up and educate yo'self. A bargain at 94p!
17 Various Artists
Louder than the Crowd Vol. 1: Independent Sounds from the UK Underground

2 discs, 41 tracks, all for A FUCKING PENNY?! Oh yes! Okay, so there's quite a few duff generi-core/nu-metally tracks, but the majority is pretty good, and this introduced me to some great bands I'd otherwise have missed.
18 Mínus
Halldor Laxness

Hip-thrusting, rocket-fuelled, hardcore-tinged rock'n'roll from Iceland. Experience the unbridled kickassery for just £2.15!
19Liars Academy
Demons

An old side-project of one of the guys from Strike Anywhere, these guys play atmospheric and varied indie rock, with the occasional injection of hardcore here and there for good measure. Pick up either full-length or the EP cheaply, with "Demons" (the best of the three) being only 98p.
20Hundred Reasons
Ideas Above Our Station

Post-hardcore and commercial rock smashed together with surprisingly good results, and Colin's very distinctive voice. Their best album, and a cracking debut, only a penny!
21Cave In
Antenna

Most would argue that this is Cave In's worst album. It's certainly their most commercial, but either way it's a solid album. Look for the bonus-DVD version, as it's a few pence cheaper than the standard one (and you get a DVD with it!), at just £2.04.
22Rocket from the Crypt
Scream, Dracula, Scream!

The best rock'n'roll album of the 90s? Quite possibly. If you don't own it, sort yerself out son. It's only £1.49 ferchrissakes!!!
23 B*Movie Heroes
Still No Surrender EP

Straight up rock with huge melodies, in a similar vein to The Wildhearts. Sadly now-defunct, but that won't stop you enjoying this fine EP which is available from £1.91.
24Death on Wednesday
Buying the Lie

A fine vaguely-50s-rock-influenced pop-punk with a singer who sounds like Morrissey and Glenn Danzig's love-child, and featuring The Bronx's Jorma Vik on drums. One of my favourite albums, again from a sadly now-defunct band. Only 40p!
25 RX Bandits
Progression

A fine blend of pop-punk, ska and reggae with progressive tendencies. It's only £1.84 so pick it up, pick it up, pick it up!!! (.....Sorry....)
26 Throat
Knievel Is Evil

Irish post-hardcore that sounds like Jimmy Eat World jamming with Quicksand. Good shit, at the ridiculously low price of 29p!
27 Instruction
God Doesn't Care

Featuring an members/ex-members of the likes of Quicksand, Rival Schools, Garrisson and Gay for Johnny Depp, I'm still amazed these guys didn't have more success when they were around. Hear for yourself for just 29p.
28 Vendetta Red
Sisters of the Red Death

Post-Hardcore/Emo/Rock, whatever you wanna label them as, there's no denying the impact of this amazing post-apocalyptic concept album. Just try to ignore the (mostly) retarded song titles. 85 of your good pennies.
293 Colours Red
Pure

A fine mix of pop-punk and britrock from the early nineties. Catchy as fuck, and easily worth the 84p asking price!
30AFI
Sing the Sorrow

To be fair, anyone who likes these guys probably already has this, and those who don't will have avoided it like the plague, but I reckon it's one of their best, and at the end of the day, even if you hate it, you've only spent £2.09 on it!
31Megadeth
Rust In Peace

A bit o' thrash to end the list on, this is one of the finest thrash-metal albums of the late 80s/early 90s golden-era, easily worth the £2.27 you'll cough up for this.
