09.25.08 | I've been meaning to check out a few of those bands for some time, actually. My albums listed here are just ideas, generally good music (preferably rock or punk of some sort) is fine. I'm mostly looking for something along the lines of 1, 3, 4 or 9, but not exclusively (otherwise I wouldn't have the rest of the list, or this comment for that matter). |
Erratic
09.25.08 | Muse - Origin of Symmetry |
Thor
09.25.08 | Isis - Panopticon
Rise Against - The Sufferer and the Witness
Rush - Hemispheres
Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre
Burst - Lazarus Bird
King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King

09.25.08 | Just a hint- I've got albums from most of the obvious Radiohead similars (i.e. Muse, Coldplay and so on). I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, shame I don't have loads of money for them all... |
Vanwarp
09.25.08 | Katatonia
Porcupine Tree
Pain of Salvation
Riverside
Green Carnation

09.25.08 | You don't need any recommendations with this good stuff right here. |

09.25.08 | I second Panopticon by Isis. |
ninjuice
09.25.08 | It's not on this list, but if you enjoy The Fall of Ideals you'll probably one of these albums:
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Mercenary - Architect of Lies
Soilwork - either Natural Born Chaos or Stabbing the Drama |
Spamue1G
09.25.08 | Scar Symmetry... That's another name I've been meaning to check out! Thanks guys, this is great! |

09.26.08 | ^yes...c'mon even I hated JT at first but its actually a good pop album... |
willfellmarsy
09.26.08 | dredg-El Cielo
NeWBReeD-Child of the Sun
The Mars Volta-De-Loused in the Comatorium (Frusciante plays on the album) and with your taste you'll probably like them and this shud be the first thing you check out
Protest the Hero-Kezia
Into Eternity-Buried in Oblivion |
irishmanshibby
09.26.08 | Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies
not really a new band but a different taste on them |
spoon_of_grimbo
09.26.08 | if you like AIC and Mad Season, probably worth checking out "badmotorfinger" by soundgarden, and maybe some screaming trees.
and if lateralus is the only tool album you've got, you need to get AEnima and 10000days (fuck it, get ALL their stuff) immediately.
oh, and HUGE RECOMMENDATIONAGES for "lions write history" by In Pieces, since you like Vheissu. |
Spamue1G
09.26.08 | Ummm... Honestly, I don't think there's any point me checking out any JT. I've heard plenty of his songs, but I really don't like any of them at all. His voice annoys me no end. Still, it was an interesting recommendation. For The Mars Volta- Should I look at De-Loused first or Frances The Mute? |
Hewitt
09.26.08 | De-Loused. |
Masochist
09.26.08 | Muse - Origin of Symmetry
King Crimson - In The Court of the Crimson King
...oh, and Francis the Mute. |
Mendigo
09.26.08 | guess our tastes are rather similar, so I recommend everything I've rated 4 stars or higher (over 200 all in all ^^) |

09.26.08 | OK Computer is basically Radiohead at their best. If you like them at all, get this album.
Dirt is arguably Alice in Chains' best album. I own their greatest hits, and most of the tracks from that is off this album. It's safe to say that I will download this album shortly.
You can't go wrong with any Tool album. They're one of the better bands out there. Lateralus is said to be their best, but my favorite one is 10,000 days. Either way, get this album.
Wish You Were Here is one of the best albums of all time. The guitar is simply amazing. Pink Floyd is a band that will always be talked about. My favorite album is The Wall, however Wish You Were Here is probably the most successful Pink Floyd album.
I love Jimi Hendirx, but dude, don't get his greatest hits. If you truly want the Jimi Hendrix EXPERIENCE, collect the first 3 albums. There are many tracks that are not on his greatest hits that REALLY deserve to be.
Also, people always talk about Jimi, but never the rest of the band. Noel Redding is a great bassist, and Mitch Mitchell is one of the best drummers of all time.
Get "Are You Experienced?", then, if you like it, get "Axis: Bold as Love", then "Electric Ladyland". |
Mendigo
09.26.08 | lol
dude, those albums in the list are his favorites ;) |
Mendigo
09.26.08 | ok, and I've finally searched for some recommendations I'm 100% sure you'll enjoy:
#1:
Radiohead - Kid A and Amnesiac (OK Computer is a great album, yet I think those two are Radiohead at their best)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
dEUS - In a Bar Under the Sea
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
#2 & #10:
Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
Chirs Cornell - Euphoria Morning
... my two favorite Grunge albums
#3:
At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Cursive - Domestica
Fugazi - The Argument
Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
#4 & #5:
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
Deftones - White Pony
dredg - El Cielo
Mastodon - Blood Mountain
Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood
Oceansize - Effloresce
#6:
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Camel - Mirage
Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
#7:
my favorite album of all time, btw
EVERY Pink Floyd album up to The Wall
King Crimson - Red
Yes - Yessongs (the best live album of all time, and the best Yes-collection you can get)
Yes - Relayer
#8:
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland (his best studio album)
Jimi Hendrix - Live at Woodstock (even better)
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV
Cream - Disraeli Gears
The Doors - Strange Days
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow
if you like those, you might check out my other highly rated stuff as well. you gonna need some Beatles sooner or later, btw. (the white album's my favorite, but most people prefer Revolver)
and if you really want to try Mars Volta, get De-Loused, but I think they're amazingly overrated. Better get the At the Drive-In album. |
Mendigo
09.26.08 | and I've forgotten some for tool:
Isis - Panopticon
Pelican - Australasia |
Spamue1G
09.26.08 | I don't really get the fuss about Van Der Graaf Generator. They sound a bit false to me. But still, the rest I've either got (not too much of it) or it sounds good. Thanks everyone, you've all helped loads! |
Masochist
09.26.08 | Mendigo has it down. No doubt. Though I'd still recommend ITCOTCK over Red (both are good...but ITCOTCK is in a realm all its own!).
Still, I stand by the Muse recommendation. Origin of Symmetry is pretty much the only thing I recommend to Radiohead fans (who haven't already heard Muse, that is). Trust me, you'll either fall head over heels for it, or you'll want to thrust it down to the deepest, iciest circle of Hell. Most likely the former. |
Spamue1G
09.28.08 | I guess that's weird... Origin Of Symmetry comes around 3.5 for me. I just think Muse don't do enough which is actually theirs. To me, it sounds like he's trying to do a polished version of Thom Yorke's vocals (which doesn't normally fantastically, but it's still ok. His falsetto is where he falls down) plus Genesis-style piano/synths and a bit of Radiohead guitar thrown in. I mean, it's good enough, but to be honest, it's only on (max) the same level as The Bends for me, which is my second least favourite Radiohead album. |

12.16.08 | i disagree with druggie on the hendrix bit...are you experienced is unreal but axis:bold is love isnt very good at all, you're better off checking out hendrix live at woodstock or band of gypsys |
