A List

Some recent digs and stuff i've bumped ratings on and learned to appreciate more. 4.5s
1Bauhaus
In the Flat Field

Maybe my favorite discovery of the last year or so. I've grown to really love the 80's goth sound and this is a perfect fusion of the 80's post-punk and goth styles 4.5/5

Listen to: God In An Alcove, A
2Dr. Octagon
Dr. Octagonecologyst

The first time I heard this I was pretty underwhelmed. The second time I heard this (the re-visit) I was blown away. There are a few tracks that bring this down a tad especially because it's already kind of long but a quality hip-hop release fa sho. 4.3/5

Listen to: Earth People
3Electric Wizard
Dopethrone

I get a nihilistic hard on when listening to this. It's so fucking dirty and gritty and negative. I love it. 4.3/5

Listen to: Funeralopolis
4Husker Du
Zen Arcade

Grew on me over time. Now it's in my top 5 punk albums easily. Chartered Trips is one of my favorite songs of all time. 4.4/5

Listen to: Chartered Trips
5John Zorn
Mount Analogue

One track album that explores atmosphere surrounding an exotic jazz style. Loaded with great instrumentation and is intriguing the whole way through. My first John Zorn experience. 4.4/5

Listen to: the album
6Killing Joke
Night Time

Basically what I always heard in my head when I thought of what industrial rock should sound like. I knew the band existed just hadn't discovered until my late 20's. 4.5/5

Listen to: Night Time
7Steely Dan
The Royal Scam

A perfect band really. Eclectic, sophisticated, cryptic with an immaculate ear for good sound/production. Respected equally by jazz and rock musicians as a damn good band. This isn't quite as good as Aja but is a fantastic concept album nonetheless. 4.3/5

Listen to: Don't Take Me Alive
8T.Raumschmiere
Heimat

Maybe my favorite 2017 release. It's quirky but in a very restrained way. It doesn't do anything particularly new but just does everything right. I can't pick out the weakest track on this album because they all serve a purpose. Also, some of these tracks are fun as hell, whereas others are dark but not overtly so. 4.4/5

Listen to: Le Fux
9The Jesus Lizard
Goat

Probably my favorite drum sound on an album. It's got such power yet still has a nice spacious sound. It's no surprise that Steve Albini is the man responsible. This record is groovy and noisey with the unmistakable vocal snarls of David Yow icing the cake. 4.4/5

Listen to: Monkey Trick
