Sowing's Objective Brand New Ranking
Although every album is a 5 or 4.5 for me personally.
The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
This sort of goes without saying. Brand New's magnum opus, pinnacle, crowning achievement - whatever you want to call it, it flat out rocks. Their lyrical maturity here is astronomical and the songwriting is unmatched. This will go down as one of the cult classics of our time. Album Ratings: Strength of Songs (92), Lyrics (100), Creativity (90), Overall Score (94). Top 5 Songs: #1 = Jesus, #2 = Limousine, #3 = Sowing Season, #4 = You Won't Know, #5 = Degausser. Least Favorite Song = Untitled.
Fire and fury, baby. The post-grunge elements, amped up guitars, coarse screams, and overall eeriness of this create an atmosphere unlike anything else in Brand New's Discography. The lyrics and song structures take a slight hit here, especially in the wake of following their best release, but this is still an album just about in a class of its own. It won't go down in history, but fans of this band will never forget how this album started out as a coarse disappointment and grew to warm our hearts. Album Ratings: Strength of Songs (88), Lyrics (84), Creativity (96), Overall Score (89). Top 5 Songs: #1 = Noro, #2 = Vices, #3 = Daisy, #4 = Sink, #5 = In a Jar. Least Favorite Song = Bought a Bride.
The Brand New melting pot of albums. It combines the best traits of every release without ever revisiting their full capacity or their lowest dips. The result is the band's most consistent front-to-end album and an incredible swan song. Album Ratings: Strength of Songs (92), Lyrics (90), Creativity (80), Overall Score (87). Top 5 Songs: #1 = In The Water, #2 = Same Logic/Teeth, #3 = Lit Me Up, #4 = 137, #5 = Can't Get It Out. Least Favorite Song = No Control.
Brand New's coming of age album, this was their leap into maturity. There's still a heavy pop-punk presence, but this was the basis that launched their leap into darker and deeper waters. This will likely have a special place in the hearts of longtime fans and may rank a lot higher on the lists of those who preferred their lighter, acoustic-based approach. Album Ratings: Strength of Songs (86), Lyrics (92), Creativity (82), Overall Score (86). Top 5 Songs: #1 = Play Crack the Sky, #2 = Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't, #3 = Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis, #4 = Sic Transit Gloria, #5 = The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows, Least Favorite Song = Jaws Theme Swimming.
Your Favorite Weapon
Brand News poppest, punkiest roots. Still an underrated gem if you ask me, but it is very much their least mature recording. Compared to the genre, however, this still offers incredibly mature and sophisticated lyrics. One of those albums that would have defined your youth. Album Ratings: Strength of Songs (82), Lyrics (80), Creativity (78), Overall Score (80). Top 5 Songs: #1 = No Seatbelt Song, #2 = Soco Amaretto Lime, #3 = Seventy Times Seven, #4 = Jude Law and a Semester Abroad, #5 = Mix Tape. Least Favorite Song = Logan to Government Center.
My attempt at being objective but yeah. What a career.
Good ranking. All of these albums are great anyway.
You Won't Know and Degausser are the two best songs they've ever written so list is wrong and you should feel bad. Everything else is pretty much on point tho so catch this honorable mention.
Altho I shouldn't skip over the fact that SF is clearly superior to Daisy but whatevs.
why does everyone always fucking underrate good to know
i'd probably rank them like this too although SF could surpass daisy at some point
@Sint, I feel you on that. It's probably my favorite on Deja right next to Play Crack the Sky
correct order, I'd have some diff top 5 song picks though
out of curiosity, where would you throw in Leaked Demos?
2 and 3 are the only ones worth listening to /end
TDAG is totally not worth a listen yea that's right good job mang.
Storm In A Teacup
Your Favorite Weapon is arguably a 5 just as much as any other album. It's way more enjoyable than Deja.
YFW is by far the weakest, but still no lower than 3/5; it's one of the more well made albums of that style.
I agree with this ranking. I was listening to 1 & 2 so much for a few years there, so it's hard to compare to SF yet, but it's about tied with Daisy for me.
Idk if it's just the hype factor but this could even be better than TDAG
Ranks lower than Daisy
I think it was the hype factor
Can't argue with this ranking.
4,5,3,1,2 -- Just Saying
"TDAG is totally not worth a listen"
yeah it isn't
I think currently this is the same ranking I have as well. Science Fiction is fantastic, but I don't think it quite hits the same highs for me as Daisy or TDAG. That could change at some point though with more time.
Honestly think the lyrics on Daisy are their best
Storm In A Teacup
This would be my ranking too and I completely agree about Your Favorite Weapon, that album rips hard.
Objectively, I agree. Personally, I disagree. For me, it's TDAG>Deja>YFW=SF>Daisy
but... but... i love bought a bride
Real Music For Kids
Baby Brand New https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlQDAfVHrrw&list=PLbzgxCKXbF91tI0_7Xj0D9P5ixKP5uhHq
And umm honestly I don't think I've ever needed a random object. Have I used my imagination? Sure, but it wasn't based off an inanimate object that I recall
Honestly Bought a Bride might be might least fave too, but lyrically one of the best on there
Also Untitled is brilliant
