Playing Jiffy Lube Live next Friday, unclear if there are any openers. I'll be honest, I did this at the behest of a buddy because tickets were briefly on-sale for $20 (he's also driving, so that helps). Playing Baltimore Soundstage on September 22, openers the Contortionist, Polyphia, and Toothgrinder. BtBaM's performing Colors in full, which is just about the ideal way to see them, even if I could take or leave any of the openers (although I'll confess, I haven't heard much Toothgrinder, and they seem to be decently praised on this site, so I may have to check them out beforehand). | | 3 |  | Manchester Orchestra
A Black Mile to the Surface
Playing the Fillmore Silver Spring on October 3nd, openers Tigers Jaw and Foxing. I've been jamming Black Mile very heavily since it came out, so am pretty pumped for this one. I've seen Andy Hull solo a few times, which is always cool, but only caught Manchester live once at Firefly a couple of years back, where their live rendition of "Where Have You Been?" brought my girlfriend (who hadn't really listened to them all that much at the time) to tears. So if they can recapture even half of that energy, we're in for a hell of a show, especially with two very solid openers. | | 4 |  | The Wonder Years
No Closer to Heaven
Playing the Ottobar on October 5th, openers the Obsessives and Jetty Bones (so far). An acoustic tour, which makes sense to coincide with that latest EP they're doing. I saw Campbell as Aaron West & the Roaring Twenties at this same venue last year, which was a damn good show, so hoping that, especially in light of the instrumentation, this has a similar vibe. Villains
Playing the Anthem in D.C. on October 10th, opener Royal Blood. These guys have been on my to-see list for quite a while now, and I'm also excited to check out this new venue. (Foo Fighters are set to christen its opening, but those tickets sold out approximately two minutes before they even went on-sale, so...) Not as big into Royal Blood, although I recall liking what I heard off their first album, so hopefully at least a fun intro. | | 6 |  | Brand New
Science Fiction
Playing the Hippodrome Theatre on October 23rd, no openers yet (at least that I've seen, could be wrong). Here they are, the inspiration for the list! I'm frankly getting a little burned out on all their dancing around about this (he types, wearing the cryptic 2000 - 2018 t-shirt he purchased at their last tour). But if this truly is their last hurrah, it's tough to pass up the opportunity to see them at a venue that's literally a 10-minute walk from my house. I also snagged a ticket for a friend as a surprise birthday present, which I'm also using the rationalize the purchase; we'll see how long that takes to curdle into bitterness. | | 7 |  | The Dresden Dolls
The Dresden Dolls
Playing the 9:30 Club on Halloween, bitches! Opener This Way to the Egress. My girlfriend is nuts for Amanda Palmer, so we've seen her quite a few times (she much more than myself), but this will be my first time seeing Dresden Dolls, so pretty excited about that. No idea who the opener is, but I also didn't know of Thor & Friends before seeing them open for Palmer, so I'm optimistic. Plus, it's Halloween, which is all but guaranteed to multiply the fun by a factor of 5x. | | 8 |  | A Perfect Circle
Mer de Noms
Playing Eagle Bank Arena on November 1, no openers (yet?). Yep, the very next day, seeing APC down Virginia-ways, another band that's been on my bucket list (saw Puscifer for the first time a couple of years ago, and have yet to catch Tool, although it seems like I'll have a decent chance the more they stall on actually dropping their long-fabled new album). Although I fear for my bodily health, this pair of shows is a good excuse to take off a day or two, so thank god for comp time. | | 9 |  | mewithoutYou
A to B: Life
Playing Baltimore Soundstage on November 21, openers Pianos Become the Teeth and Slow Mass. I missed when these guys came to town to perform Catch for Us the Foxes in its entirety a few years back, but this is a pretty good consolation prize, and will give me a chance to revisit one of my least-listened-to from their increasingly ornate discography. | | 10 |  | Pianos Become the Teeth
The Lack Long After
Same as above, but worthy of their own entry, if only to keep aflame the rumor I heard on this very site that they've got some new material coming soon--which is good, since the Lack Long After is starting to seem more and more like how best to describe the radio silence post-Keep You. | | 11 |  | The National
Sleep Well Beast
Playing the Anthem on December 5th, opener This Is the Kit. Whew. Here we have it, my last show of the year (so far). Haven't seen these guys, but the concert footage from the Mistaken for Strangers film made it seem like they put on a much higher-energy live show than I would've expected from that baritone, so I'm pretty excited to end the concert-going year on a (figurative) high note. | |

08.17.17 | It can be a bit of a drag during the wait between sets but otherwise, while the bands are playing you're there for the music anyway. During the dead times, usually I'll grab a beer and play around on my phone or check out the merch but sometimes you meet some pretty cool people.
It can be nice to be on your own too since you can sort of just do whatever you want without worrying about losing your friends or whatever. If you want to get up in that first row, go for it, if you want to grab beers at the bar its fine. You're in control. | Divaman
