Willie Turns 10

So, I didn't even realize I had been a part of this site for 10 years until someone mentioned it to me in the little shoutbox area. Time to be self-indulgent... here are a list of some of my reviews of albums I was trying to get some deserved attention (except for the first one... that's just there because it's where it all started). So, I signed up as WillieFisterbut in order to talk shit to some to some dude on a review. I don't remember who or why anymore... I kept that name until I made staff and had to change it. Also, in memory of BallsToTheWall (who is still here from time to time, I guess), fireaboveicebelow, jingledeath, lauriej, rasputin, Metalstyles, Wizard, bloc, Deviant, Meatplow, Crysis, Yazz_Flute, Crimson Death, Apollo, Ponton, and Mikesn.
1Stabbing Westward
Ungod

My first review back in 2007. It didn't even get its first comment until 2009. Obviously, I didn't pick a Sput-approved band for my first review. It didn't stop me from writing reviews for their other three albums over the course of the next three days. I don't think those reviews faired much better.
2Thought Industry
Mods Carve the Pig

If Cynic merged with Primus with a bit of Fugazi.
3Anacrusis
Manic Impressions

One of the coolest tech/prog thrash albums out there. Also, sadly, flies under the radar in favor of bands like Voivod or Coroner.
4Damn the Machine
Damn the Machine

Chris Poland's (ex-Megadeth Guitarist) unknown progressive metal release. Very chill, classy and well done.
5Ulver
Themes From William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell

I know people know about Ulver, but despite its hiccups, I still think this is the release everyone should check out from them. Way less atmospheric and theatrical, with more vocal and an industrial edge.
6Neurosis and Jarboe
Neurosis and Jarboe

A lot of people here know about Neurosis, but most people don't know about this album. It features the vocalist from the Swans backed by the post metal masters. Dark and sinister stuff.
7Anathema
Serenades

Another band a lot of people know about, but most haven't bothered with this release. One of my favorite doom releases of all times.
8Beyond Dawn
Pity Love

A mixture of doom, goth, and black metal.... with a trombone player. It will take a few listens to appreciate, but it's worth the effort.
9Samael
Passage

A perfect blend of industrial and black metal. A definite classic.
10Acumen Nation
Psycho the Rapist

Awesome industrial with metal influences.
11Watchtower
Control and Resistance

Probably one of the first tech metal releases ever. Way before its time, with a vocalist with a voice that could kill puppies.
12Numb
Wasted Sky

One of the best industrial releases I've ever heard. Dark, powerful beats, and near flawless.
13Cranes
Wings of Joy

Creepy in that dead Japanese girl comes back from the dead kind of way. Kind of reminds me of post metal without any of the post... hard to explain, but well worth checking out.
14Believer
Gabriel

Believer's comeback release. Awesome progressive thrash.
15Lene Marlin
Twist the Truth

Norway's version of Sarah McLachlan, but better in every way.
16Gnostic
Engineering the Rule

The comeback release from Atheist's original (and best) drummer. Classic tech death with a modern edge.
17At The Soundawn
Shifting

Seamless blend of post rock and post metal. Another unknown gem.
18Arch / Matheos
Sympathetic Resonance

The classic songwriting duo reunited with an awesome supporting band. Modern and classic progressive metal blended to perfection.
19Atoma
Skylight

This album is more like a trip than a simple listening experience. Throughout its runtime there's post metal, prog, post rock, shoegaze, electronica... and somehow it's catchy too.
20The God Machine
Scenes from the Second Storey

Like if Jane's Addiction was suddenly influenced by the streamlined doom metal of Daylight Dies. Definitely a unique sound.
21Kenn Nardi
Dancing With the Past

The singer/guitarist of Anacrusis comes back after decades with a two-disc solo release that mixes his classic style with some prog rock and melody.
