Slashs June 2017

ICH KOMM AUS DER MITTELSCHICHT, DIE GIBTS IN DEUTSCHLAND SICHERLICH, UNTEN WARN WIR NICHT UND OBEN WARN WIR AUCH NICHT.
1Motorpsycho
Demon Box

Heavy Metal// By far the most disturbed and harrowing piece of music Motorpsycho have ever put together. Ugly riffs, badly screamed vocals and unsettling electronic effects mix beautifully with hollow folk-pieces and grunge/punk simplicity, while still having progressive songwriting. Highly recommended. //5/5 ALL DAY
2Motorpsycho
Starmelt EP

Alternative Rock// Rock solid EP from their more jammy AADAP-phase, with some good grooves and nice sounds. Don't expect anything groundbreaking, though. //3/5
3Motorpsycho
Begynnelser

Soundtrack// The music to a play whose script they didn't read before they made this. Huh. Definitely one of their more "out-there" releases for sure, with influences from reggae and film noir of all things, but definitely worth checking out. And definitely grab the physical, if it's still available. It comes with a recording of the play. //3,5/5
4Reel Big Fish
We're Not Happy 'Till You're Not Happy

Ska-Punk// It's RBF at their most pissed and angry, but by god, the grooves and arrangements are so incredibly tired. At one point they resort to half-sampling "The Joker", which was a really bad move. It's not bad, per se, when you have a frontman as charming as Aaron and some witty lyrics, but overall this is rather disappointing. Don't Start A Band is magical, though. //2,5/5
5The B-52s
The B-52's

Proto-Dance-Punk?// By far the cheesiest thing I heard all month. I absolutely love it. The humor is very much on point on here. I dig. //4,5/5
6Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa

Pop// Good grooves, good singing and decent lyrics can't always distract from rather dry songwriting. I can still recommend this, though, if you are searching for some very decent pop-music. There are very few exceptionally bad songs on here aside from Garden. //3/5
7Vanilla
Moonlight

Instrumental-Hop// The boy with the bomb-ass samples is back at it again with the most tedious tape in his discog. The smooth vibes are very pleasant, but it runs dry very, very quickly and doesn't hold my attention for too long, sadly. Also, I don't know who raps on the last track, but he isn't good. Sakura might be one of the best beats of the year so far, though. The flute is absolutely delightful, and mixed in with the jazzy keys, it turns absolutely transcendental. //3/5
8Brockhampton
Saturation

Boyband// Look, I generally dig this a lot. There are a lot of great beats on here, the performances are ear-grabbing and the hooks are catchy as all hell, but the lyrics can be very, VERY shallow. I think they work best when they go into more vulnerable territories lyrically, which makes songs like "Trip", "Swim" and "Milk" definite highlights. Definitely check this out if you're looking for a new promising Hip-Hop-Collective. //4/5
9Kevin Abstract
American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story

Alternative-Indie-Hop?// I have very little to say about this, other than that it is very mellow, very emotional and very promising. I like the lyrics a lot, but the music is kinda drab sometimes. Eh. //3/5
10Denzel Curry
King of the Mischievous South Vol. 1

Underground-Memphis-Fanboyism// CAUSE I'M PACKING WHAT YOU LACKING AND I'M SHOOTING LIKE A TANK. A lot of nostalgic value for me, this was one of the tapes that put me onto underground and memphis-style rap. Denzel goes hard as hell on all of these dark, lo-fi beats and it just works extraordinarily for a whole hour. Gankin' was my SHIT back in 2012. //4,5/5
11Denzel Curry
13

ULTIMATE// What..what is Denzel doing on heartless? Good to see him work with Ugly Mane again, though. Zeltron 6 Billion is one of the best rap-tracks to come out of 2017 so far. (Advice: NEVER LET RONNY J PICK UP A MICROPHONE EVER AGAIN. THANK YOU) //3,5/5
12Xavier Wulf
The Wolf Gang's Rodolphe

Dat Fonk// Same as KOTMS, one of my favorite tapes of the early 10s. I'm still very disappointed in the lane the he chose after this, but whatever. If it makes him happy, fine. Watch Yoo Back is one of the best tracks of this decade, and there are some more choice-bangers for me. //4,5/5
13SpaceGhostPurrp
Blvcklvnd Rvdix 66.6

Raider-Klan// Yes, I was on a nostalgia-trip recently, why are you asking? //4,5/5
14Young Thug
BEAUTIFUL THUGGER GIRLS

I'm// Actually kinda resentful towards this. Good beats, good hooks sometimes, the first track is absolutely amazing, but this is the first time I can't see why people are praising him so much. This is so mediocre, even for his standards. //2/5
152 Chainz
Pretty Girls Like Trap Music

Trap// No, I can't believe it either, but this is by far his best album yet. Every song hits, every joke is funny, every flow is charismatic. And to top it all of, every beat is amazing in its own right, with a lot of catchy details and whatnot. The hooks are amazingly catchy as well. And OG Kush Diet, oh man, when it turned into a reggae-flip and Tity Boy just absolutely kills it with wordplay and great rhymes, that's probably the best song of his entire career. Just saying, definitely check this out. //4,5/5
16Vince Staples
Big Fish Theory

Westcoast// I really, really respect what he is trying musically and content-wise, but his songwriting on this is very, VERY stiff at points. Still, doesn't change the fact that he is one of my favourite rappers at the moment. Good charisma and good content can salvage your songwriting sometimes. This time, it did. //4/5
17Unge Ferrari
Til Mine Venner

Norwegian Rap// I swear to god, this shit is more wavy than Waveracer 64. These beats, melodies and vibes are really amazing. And even lyrically, even though he is a very basic rapper, he sits in this weird spot between paranoia, sadness and arrogance that makes him a very interesting figure. The songs about treating his girl right are absolutely precious. Also, he seems like an all around nice dude. Definitely check this out, even if you don't speak norwegian. //4/5
