Trying out bands we don't like, part 1
Welcome to another edition of Nazzadan and his coworker Duck_King throw together a big spreadsheet of music and listen to it at work to pass the time.
The theme of this episode is bands that at least one of us doesn't enjoy. We found the highest rated album here on Sput by that band, listened to it, and gave a short 1 sentence synopsis of what we thought as well as the rating we gave it on the Sput 1-5 scale.
Me - Me
DK - Duck_King
DK: 3, First two songs were their classics, and the rest was a bit dull.
Me: 3, Boring at times but had some high peaks
DK: 3, I realized I just don't like Dexter Holland's vocals, but instrumentally they're good.
Me: 3.5, I liked most of the songs that aren't their big hits. Title track rules.
DK: 1.5, I was gritting my teeth through the entire album. Dog shit.
Me: 2.5, Good points, the rapping just got on my nerves. The flow sucked and his voice is bad, Chester is okay
Ten Thousand Fists
DK: 3, I was a bit disappointed in this. Most of the songs sounded the same.
Me: 3, Started to sound way too samey but the t/t is a jam
My Private Nation
DK: 2, Maybe I'm a cynic, but all these songs sound like they're engineered for $
Me: 2, Dragged on and on, but it least it wasn't their dogshit most recent album
Get Your Heart On!
DK: 3.5, Went in ready to hate this, and I can honestly say it was way better than I expected.
Me: 3, Some of the features were good and the songs weren't terrible
DK: 2, Early 2000's whine rock and generic riffs.
Me: 2, Glad I never got into this band in my youth.
One Fierce Beer Coaster
DK: 1.5, I guess even douchebags need music. There was a single track I didn't hate.
Me: 1.5, Very not funny, I guess what's funny has just changed since the mid 90s and the jokes didn't age well
...And Out Come the Wolves
DK: 4, Very good album. I really don't like ska, but this was enjoyable to listen to.
Me: 4, Very good, fusion of punk and ska totally worked imo. Will listen again
DK: 3, Better than I expected. Went on too long, and relied on too many DJ gimmicks.
Me: 3.5, Almost a 4, but went on for a bit too long. Could have been 1 track shorter or more varied
The Art of Drowning
DK: 2.5, I didn't hate it, but it didn't really grab me either.
Me: 4.5, I already loved this. AFI starting to cross over, borderline masterpiece
DK: 3, It was alright. I've heard most of the hits off this album, but I just never cared for it.
Me: 3.5, Already heard it, already liked it, first half is super strong then tapers off
|13||Panic! At the Disco|
Vices & Virtues
DK: 3, Some of the tracks were interesting, but nothing overtly pulled me in.
Me: 3, Didn't like it as much as Fever, but made me want to hear their newer stuff
|14||The Smashing Pumpkins|
DK: 4, Well crafted and engaging.
Me: 4, Very good, but not as good as Melon Collie imo
DK: 3, I respect the artistry, but I just can't get into this.
Me: 4, Really like the album, but I guess I still don't "get it" when it comes to it being a masterpiece
|16||Puddle of Mudd|
DK: 2, Sounded like a dollar store Alice In Chains.
Me: 2.5, Average bland pop-grunge
Lemonade And Brownies
DK; 2.5, I give it a .5 because of the RR3D song. Aside from that, it was all over the place
Me: 2, Fucking annoying and changed genres every other song
Fush Yu Mang
DK: 2, SOME-body once told me this album's pretty shitty.
Me: 3, Campy cheesy stoner fun
My Own Prison
DK: 3, A bit cheesy at points, but this was well put together and I didn't mind it.
Me: 3, Very safe grungy rock by a man with puffy cheeks
|20||Jars Of Clay|
Jars Of Clay
DK: 3.5, I get now why these guys are Christian rock classics. Well put together album.
Me: 3.5, Liked it quite a bit, much stronger than their other material im familiar with
Part 1 of 5, taste is subjective, our opinions, blah blah
this is fun, i do this with my friends too
It's a great way to pass the time at work instead of just listening to safe things we know we like. Best case we find something new we like, worst case it's bad and we can make fun of it
hahah awesome list idea
Storm In A Teacup
so you like spreadsheets do you ...
Yes but tbh I need to put in the time to learn how to use Excel more.
I have lied on every application I have ever filled where I put "proficient with Excel"
i don't think i like this duck king guy
Just listened to The Art of Drowning yesterday, definitely jams hard.
Hated Hot Fuss when I first got it, grew on me in about a month and loved it since, does indeed taper off a bit though.
word dude and its fun to open your mind as wide as it can go haha
Best list I've read on Sput. More please.
Fun list. Keep em coming
woah props for 20. and yeah this was a good list i agreed with you on most of these haha
Glad you guys dig it, I'll upload the next 20 tomorrow. Next one will have some crowd favorites like Nickelback, Weezer and Rage Against the Machine
This is a sweet idea, I'll have to do it with someone sometime
Duck king should be crucified for rating simple crap, good charlotte, smash mouth, pussies at the disco and train higher than hybrid theory.
And btw, offspring during the smash era is beloved as hell
"Really like the album, but I guess I still don't "get it" when it comes to it being a masterpiece"
how I feel about Kid A
'Simple Plan - Get Your Heart On' is the best simple plan. Hooks are catchy as shiet.
"Really like the album, but I guess I still don't "get it" when it comes to it being a masterpiece"
Exactly how I feel.
Pro-Tip: Linkin Park sucks, has always sucked, and will continue to suck until the heat death of the universe, and then, in the cold blackness of the void, past the furthest reaches of infinity, where no light touches, somehow, they will still suck.
How is the KISS debut their highest rated album on the site
your right somehow it is, I would of thought Love gun or Destroyer would be rated higher than this
