| My Top 10 Female-Fronted Artists
aka the babes | 10 | | Joanna Newsom Divers
I really didn't know who to put at 10 since I honestly haven't listened to many more artists as excessively as the top 8 but from what I have heard by Joanna, I think she could contend for becoming one of my artists. This is some of the most enchanting stuff I've ever heard. The harp is a perfect instrument.
Favorite Songs: Sapokanikan, Leaving The City, Emily | 9 | | Momoiro Clover Z 5th Dimension
Found this not too long ago but this album is pretty outstanding. It's J-pop with some prog elements which is actually the sickest combo for weebs and not weebs alike.
Favorite Songs: Goodbye, Dear Sorrows, Otome-Sensou, Kasou-Systopia | 8 | | Chvrches The Bones of What You Believe
Yano I really hope these guys right a consistently amazing album one day but I listen to the best songs from this album and gawk over Lauren Mayberry far too much to not give them a mention.
Favorite Songs: We Sink, Leave A Trace, The Mother We Share, Gun, Down Side of Me | 7 | | Lights Siberia
This was kinda the album that got me into music like this and where I finally converted from "all pop sucks, its only good if its rock" to something that younger me wouldn't be proud of. Excited for her new material and also although I don't remember how it sounds I super dug what I heard on Midnight Machines
Favorite Songs: Cactus In The Valley, Banner, Toes, Flux and Flow, Everybody Breaks A Glass | 6 | | Yvette Young Acoustics
This girl is one of the most talented people in music, I swear. She does everything: sing, play a shit ton of instruments at an incredibly high and creative level, and even does her own artwork. Follow her on instagram since she posts some of the coolest clips of things she is working on and sometimes I just get lost in those. She is also the guitarist in instrumental math rock band Covet. She's basically perfect.
Favorite Songs: A Map A String A Light, Tide, Mermaid | 5 | | Grimes Art Angels
She's so weird, I love her.
Favorite Songs: Butterfly, Kill V Maim, World Princess Pt 2, Art Angels, Flesh Without Blood | 4 | | Hop Along Painted Shut
One of the most powerful voices on this list. My ex told me she couldn't sing and I swear, I almost had an aneurysm because that was by far one of the stupidest comments I've ever heard.
Favorite Songs: Laments, Tibetan Pop Stars, Get Disowned, Waitress, Happy To See Me, Second Voice | 3 | | Carly Rae Jepsen Emotion
Okay this is all I've really listened to by her but this album is pop-perfection. If she can top this, that would be absolutely insane.
Favorite Songs: Run Away With Me, Love Again, Emotion, Making The Most of the Night, Never Get To Hold You | 2 | | Signals. Facial Furniture
I found this band only a few months ago because I found out she did guest vocals in one of the best songs to ever exist, Satellite by Invalids. Go to their bandcamp and check out everything they have, it's a super awesome blend of indie rock and math rock and the vocals are outstanding. They are releasing another EP this year but they really need a full-length.
Favorite Songs: Paraesthesia, Sleep Talk, Dusk, Constructions | 1 | | Laura Stevenson Wheel
Wheel wins this list alone, but her other material is outstanding too. I saw her live last August towards the end of the summer when my life kinda started sucking and it was a huge pick-me-up. She's also one of the nicest people I've talked with at a concert.
Favorite songs: The Wheel, Master of Art, Tom Sawyer, Renee, L-Dopa | |
