03.23.17 | Courbet - A Burial at Ornans
Probably my favorite painting, definitely my favorite I've seen in person. Googling it doesn't do it justice because it's a very large painting. |
MarsKid
03.23.17 | Yeah, looking at something online isn't the full experience. Raft of Medusa for example is 16 by 23 feet |

03.23.17 | Shouldn't you brats be digging conceptual modernist bollocks that says fuck all? |
dbizzles
03.23.17 | I'm mostly into graphic novel/comics artists, but check out some stuff by Glenn Fabry, Dave McKean or David Mack. John Higgins did some cool stuff in World Without End by Jamie Delano- most panels look like tech-death album artwork.
EDIT: Speaking of tech-death, some of the users turned me on to Paolo Girardi in the Artificial Brain thread. That guy has some really cool stuff. |

03.23.17 | Some contemporary art is cool, Zak. I like Rothko and Agnes Martin amongst a few others (again those really need to be seen in person), but generally I prefer 19th century or earlier. |

No one with a functional brain digs that crap. |

03.23.17 | Pretty sure zak doesn't think anyone born after 1980 has a functional brain. |
MarsKid
03.23.17 | I like pre-1900s stuff the most in all honestly. Renaissance, Baroque, Romantics, Impressionists, that stuff |
Azertherion
03.23.17 | I'm a fan of impressionism. Here's an obvious and well-known masterpiece by our fellow painter with one ear : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Nuit_%C3%A9toil%C3%A9e#/media/File:Van_Gogh_-_Starry_Night_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg
I enjoy most pictural arts, however I do lack knowledge on the subject, I need to read more and see more paintings ! |
MarsKid
03.23.17 | van Gogh also took a lot of inspiration from Japanese Ukiyo-e artists if you ever want to check into that movement. |

03.23.17 | i love art, just don't know too much about it... but I do like this guy!

03.23.17 | Shawn Coss also created the Album cover for the new Seether (though I don't care about the band) |
Azertherion
03.23.17 | Yeah, everyone at the time was mad of Japanese Art. Some of his favourite paintings were indeed amazing.

03.23.17 | Mark Rothko [2] the early waves of abstract expressionism were incredible- Joan Mitchell, Franz Kline, Hans Hofmann etc. just pure intensity

there is usually a lot of amazing 'modern' stuff being made but it's hard to keep up with who's who, especially while following music and stuff too. i remember this one tho, seeing it at the Walker:

03.23.17 | My absolute favorite artist is Zdzislaw Beksinski from Poland. He died from being stabbed by his neighbor for not loaning him money sometime back in 2005, otherwise he might still be alive. Been seeing more and more albums with his art on the their album covers, which is not necessarily a good thing.

03.24.17 | That shit is awesome, Grimlin. |
MarsKid
03.24.17 | That's an unfortunate story, at least his art lives on. Incredible stuff. |
Spacesh1p
03.24.17 | Beksinski is pretty cool yeah.
Personally I find impressionism to be quite boring. Maybe it's my gf's influence (probably) but I tend to agree with her that it's aesthetically pleasing but isn't very interesting. The artists and how they arrived at that style certainly are but the art itself is on the more boring side. |

03.24.17 | I really like relief carvings on churches as well. Love a good judgment scene.
