Share Some Singles!

As a New Year's Resolution, I've made sure to be much less lax when it came to checking out new music. I ended 2016 with too many 2016 left in my Spotify library without a single play to their name. So lately I've been checking out a lot of singles from new artists, and keeping up with new singles in general. So I thought of the idea of a series of lists, possibly monthly, where I compile a list of new singles that piqued my ear. I'll mostly be focusing on less obvious artists, but almost anything's game! I'll even add suggestions from other people!
1Nnamdi Ogbonnaya
let gO Of my egO

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_ixnVLgVJI

Probably the best single I've found from my efforts. It's an absolute banger that fans of people like Chance The Rapper and D.R.A.M. will love: that silly, happy, charasmatic kinda rap shit.

His album, DROOL, is coming out March 3rd
2Jay Som
The Bus Song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkzyMlWojhM

I first heard of Som from an article talking about 11 artists to watch out for in 2017 (it's where I got some of the artists you'll find on this list) Coincidentally, this track came out like two days after this song and the announcement of her debut record on Polyvinyl Records. I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye for her because this track is a sweet little cut. Her soft vocals and the lyrics are definitely the highlight for me.

Her album, Everybody Works, is out March 10th.

Here's the mentioned article: http://www.vinylmeplease.com/magazine/11-artists-watch-2017/

Beating Myself Up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg63MYCqoRI

(this single is from 2016, but it's new to me, so whatev)

The first half of this track is really beautiful. The plucked strings and piano really work wonders with her vocals. The second half goes into a more rock-ish, common style that may not stack up to the first half's simple beauty, but is still an interesting direction the song goes in and is fun in itself.
4Vagabon
The Embers

https://youtu.be/zTo_Dsa8ijM

It's a bit of a typical indie rock track, but I enjoyed nonetheless. Her vocals at moments remind me of a tamer Frances Quinlan (bold claims, I know), and her lyrics got something to chew on in them.

Infinite Worlds is out Feb. 24
5Delicate Steve
Cartoon Rock

https://youtu.be/2kZtjbWaZKk

It may just be a 2 minute instrumental track, but I still found it to be quite memorable. It probably has a lot to do with the guitar work, especially the tone. It's just so textured! The sheer vividness that comes from the guitar and the analog synths at the end of the track fit really make the name fit; the track is like some kind of exaggeration of rock music.

This Is Steve is out Jan. 27
6Trophy Dad
Louis Sachar

https://trophydad.bandcamp.com/

This track isn't too crazy, but I feel that other people will probably enjoy it more than me. Besides, as it says on the track's Bandcamp page (lined above), all the proceeds made from the track will go to the Dane County Rape Crisis Center. I might as well get the word out. Still some decent enough bedroom pop/rock.
7Gold Connections
New Religion

https://gold-connections.bandcamp.com/track/new-religion

I found this track because Will Toledo produced, and it's the kind of track you'd expect the lead singer of Car Seat Headrest would have his hand in. It's a solid indie rock track with a nice progression and some passionate vocals. I have a feeling about these guys, so I'm gonna make sure to keep an eye on them

Their self-titled debut EP comes out March 31
8The Velveteins
Don't Yah Feel Better

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOoy8dDFNxE

It's just a simple, sweet little guitar pop track. Yes Velveteins, I do feel better :]

Their debut album, Slow Wave, has no set release date, but It's coming sometime this year
9Princess Nokia
Tomboy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH-LyInSNYw

another track that came out last year, but see 3

It's a pretty sweet banger boi. Her voice is a bit small (does that make sense) to make this track as hard as it could be, but the charisma is undeniable.
10Ethan Ives
300 Story Hotel

https://ethanives.bandcamp.com/track/300-floor-hotel

(pretend this is 8) Speaking of Car Seat Headrest, the guitarist posted this up yesterday. I don't know if it counts as a single, but it still has got me thinking that a solo album from him would be great. Some nice acoustic guitar playing and some interesting lyrics.

"C-section would be my main rec, it's the side project of the current lead guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers but they play music I can vaguely describe as kind of like a funky Radiohead. album's out in about a week"

13Spiral Stairs

"also Spiral Stairs, which is the side project of a guy from Pavement is sounding really cool, I'm not a Pavement guy at all but the list of guest stars on this album is absolutely insane - Matt Berninger, Kevin Drew and Jason Lytle just for starters"
14Laura Marling
Soothing
