ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | Been a pretty musical day all things considered |
Dewinged
01.13.17 | Jammed 3 today man and oh lord I hated it lol. Music theory sounds interesting! |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | Haha, yeah saw your soundoff, shame you didn't enjoy it but I understand why. Music theory is pretty interesting, some of it is the opposite though. |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | ): I like 3. I should probably mention I'm only 2 tracks deep in 4, played the rest in full but got distracted from that one.
A little, my course is half theory half history, so there's a bit of musical philosophy in there sure. |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | We touched on it but sped past it, I'll check him out asap. |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | *accidentally deleted my comment* It wasn't anything like that (: . The course was much more of a general overview and expansive timeline of a multitude of styles from the about the 20s onwards, with much more emphasis on the 60s-80s. The last couple decades weren't the focus which makes sense given the course, and a lot of things weren't necessarily explored in detail unless you researched them yourself (which I did for the things I was interested in).
This is only the second history unit in the sourse mind you, the first of which dealt with Gregorian Chant, Greek theory, early polyphony and stuff of that nature, so latter units will deal more with specifics. But anyway, found a PDF of The Art of Noise and I'm reading it ATM (well I will be, hopefully I won't have to rewrite my comment again). |
AsleepInTheBack
01.13.17 | been jamming a lot of maths-y post-rock stuff recently when writing my dissertation, stuff like Alpha Male Tea Party - Droids and TotorRo - Come to Mexico, solid stuff. Not huge on 5, and still haven't jammed 1 yet |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | Interesting choice of study music with the math-y part. Post-rock is probably the best study music though, unobtrusive but perfect for keeping the boredom at bay.
"Still haven't jammed 1 yet" - is this a typo |
AsleepInTheBack
01.13.17 | their maths-y elements aren't too disorientating as to be counterproductive background listening. Unfortunately it is no typo, its one of those records that has such a reputation that I've always put off listening it, almost intimidated by its rep, illogical I know. or wanting to be in the perfect move with time to give it my full attention which isn't often the case |
bgillesp
01.13.17 | Ive been hearing good things about 2, so I'm excited to check it. Recently picked up Arise on CD and its one of my favorite thrash albums out there. |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | @Asleep dive in man, it needs time to grow anyway so I doubt your first listen will be the best listen.
@bgillesp Arise is amazing, but yeah you shouldn't expect 2 to sound anything like it, but it is really good which is nice. |
AsleepInTheBack
01.13.17 | alright man, I'll get on that asap |
theBoneyKing
01.13.17 | I prefer to study preserves tbh |
danielcardoso
01.13.17 | Don't usually study while hearing music but i have made some exceptions on occasion.
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
Kruder and Dorfmeister - G-Stoned
Jon Hopkins - Immunity |
theBoneyKing
01.13.17 | Laughing Stock is goat study music dan, nice one
I pretty much always jam music while studying, I'd go mad if I didn't tbh. In fact that's when I do the majority of my music listening. |
danielcardoso
01.13.17 | Sometimes i lose focus if i study hearing music lol. |
ScuroFantasma
01.13.17 | Agreed with both of you tbh, has to be the right kind of music for the job. Some studying is just copying notes or whatever so anything goes really, but if I've got to concentrate then more subtle music is the way - Sigur Ros is great for that. But yeah ai'm with you Boney studying without music is boring af, plus it's a great way to jam music and be productive while doing it. |
DarkSideOfLucca
01.13.17 | I usually just listen to Meshuggah or classical |
danielcardoso
01.13.17 | It is pretty boring for sure Scuro, need to give hearing music while studying a second chance in general and try not getting as distracted. |

One of the reasons I haven't listened to several classics, really want to give them the attention they deserve but rarely have the time and wouldnt dare have a first listen as a background listen |
AsleepInTheBack
01.13.17 | jesus man 1 is incredible |
CalculatingInfinity
01.13.17 | I've been mainly jamming Spitz while studying for my exams next week, got to keep up the posi vibes. |
ScuroFantasma
01.14.17 | Ayyyy glad you checked it man!
|
DrMaximus
01.14.17 | You can actually study to these? I'm fuckin impressed |
ScuroFantasma
01.14.17 | Sometimes I can, yesterday's studying was just research and note taking stuff. If it requires any more though than that then this kind of stuff is usually too distracting (: |
AsleepInTheBack
01.14.17 | Cheers for pushing me towards spinning it man, best thing I've heard in a long while |
