Music For You 7

More music for the lovely people of Sputnikmusic!
1Me Like Bees
There Will Be Time

[Indie Rock] Laced with the slightest traces of electronica and indie pop, There Will Be Time is a departure from the strict "indie rock" sound of their debut album; yet its also an energetic, bold, and confident leap into a new sound medium. Shaefer's vocal work is great as always, having his own unique sound while also channeling familiar images of Isaac Brock in the Modest Mouse early days. And the instrumental work is incredibly refined and well composed, keeping energy consistent and fun between each guitar lick and the occasional appearance of a saxophone.

Spin: Changes, Tundraland, Hymns and Blues, There Will Be Time

Unexpected

[Beats] Maybe a little TOO stock for the tastebuds at times, the atmosphere that comes from the nature sampling and the back half's weirder side results in an easy listening piece thats cute and relaxing. This one also has a good amount of replayability, which is always nice. I rec the excellently written review by Danny for further thoughts on this record.

Spin: Lily, Jasmine, Viola, Sakura

Plantasia

[Electronic] A cute little electronic album that was incredibly ahead of its time for something released in 1976. The first few tracks feel like an introduction more than individual tracks, but once it really kicks off the album indulges on absolutely gorgeous soundscapes and melodies that could only be enhanced with some vintage 70s psychedlic animation to accompany it. Also an easy listening piece that moves back and forth between dreamy and dark in an overly cute, whimsical manner.

Spin: Baby's Tears Blues, Ode to an African Violet, Swingin' Spathiphyllums, Music To Soothe The Savage Snake Plant
4Creeper
The Stranger

[Pop Punk] Hi. Do you like early AFI, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and visual heavy punk acts like Misfits? If you said yes to any of these inquiries then The Stranger is for you! Not only is it pop punk that actually gives a shit, but it also blends early 2000s styled "emo pop" and some more modern trends perfectly. With this fun little five track collection you are treated to some nice, catchy compositions that dont push the envelope with unashamed, over the top theatrics; or get as embarrassingly moody as the bands it takes inspiration from. Theres also some blues-y moments on this record that are outstanding. This is fun don't skip it.

Spin: Black Mass (listen to this one), Valentine, Astral Projection
5The Out Crowd
Then I Saw The Holy City

[Folk Rock] Rec'd to me by SandwichBubble! Side project of The Brian Jonestown Massacre. This record is an unusual little thing that kind of does whatever it pleases vocally and instrumentally, going anywhere from spoken word, to psychedelia, to dream pop - and back. Of course, it does all of this with an incredibly high level of sophistication and care that shows that care went into producing this record. There are also some David Bowie, Beatles, Pulp, and Neil Young influences scattered about vocally and instrumentally. Which is cool.

Spin: Little Elf, Concentrate, Drugsick, Sports, Eyes of Blue
6Birds of Tokyo
BRACE

[Alternative Rock] This record is basically the electronica heavy rock record every single mainstream alternative/hard rock band has been trying to make for over half a decade. How Birds of Tokyo achieve this is by using the electronic/industrial elements organically and sparingly, never leaning on them as a gimmick and keeping focus on writing strong melodies and incredibly catchy hooks. I do need to stress that this album is very much a mainstream rock record in sound and spirit, so it probably wont be most people's cups of tea here.

Spin: Harelquins, Brace, Empire, Above/Below
7Elsiane
Mechanics of Emotion

[Trip Hop] If there's one album you need to listen to on this list it's this one. Elsiane use light elements of trip hop, violins, and horns to create a platform for Elisa's unique vocal style that, while unusual on first listen, becomes more welcoming and apparently powerful as the record continues. Production is very reserved and sophisticated, saving its emotional punches for the perfect moment where the album has the platform to absolutely blow you away. If it wasn't for some pointless interludes that kill the momentum, this album would be a stone cold classic.

Spin: Slowbirth, Acceptance, Nobody Knows, In The Shadows,
8Husky Rescue
Ghost Is Not Real

[Indie Folk/Dream Pop] Hi. Do you like indie folk? Do you like cute girls on guitars? Do you like semi-atmospheric folk music that uses influences of electronica and dream pop to give the "cute girls on guitar" sound a far deeper level of personality? If you answered yes to any of these inquiries, then Ghost Is Not Real. Its only noticeable flaw is the absolutely awkward spoken word passages on Silent Woods and the deep male vocals randomly cutting in throughout the track, but the rest of this album is incredibly well composed folk music with a very cold atmosphere that draws and mesmerizes the listener. You know from the first track that this is gonna be good.

Spin: My Home Ghost, Diamonds In The Sky, Blueberry Tree Trilogy, Caravan
9White Noise of Anxiety
Awkward Silence

BONUS - The debut EP from Conn's band is pretty good. I promised him I'd type out full thoughts on this record, but anything I could've said was covered in his thread. So instead, just check this out because this is actually a very solid and competent Sputnik user project worth giving a spin.
