synysterdjs 11.05.16	Haven't listened to Universal Themes yet, but I can rank the other LPs. Ghosts > Benji > Admiral > April > Among the Leaves I do think Admiral is unfairly criticised. I think 'The Leaning Tree' and 'Australian Winter' are great tracks individually, but they don't fit aptly following the flow of the first six tracks. The last two tracks make up for it, though. It's the last time he sounded genuinely passionate about writing and performing music, from what I've noticed. April is fantastic and incredibly emotional, but 'Tonight the Sky' is way too long and its minor noise rock elements incohesive. Though 'Moorestown' is possibly my favourite track on the album, this version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC_tDf9hstE), alone with his classical guitar, is almost perfect. I actually love the original acoustic rendition of 'Duk Koo Kim', as well as the extended and distorted noise rock version of 'Carry Me, Ohio' from '02.

Astral Abortis 11.05.16	I've not even seen Admiral criticised in that way. I just know I've never seen enough love for it.
synysterdjs 11.05.16	@OvDeath -- Yeah, "criticised" is the wrong term and the way you put is closer to how it's actually perceived. @Relinquished -- Like I said, the song is great individually, and perhaps thematically it is fitting. However, it's just jarring for me whenever I come off that incredible chain of tracks that preceded it. It's nowhere near as bad as how I feel about 'Tonight the Sky', though.

synysterdjs 11.05.16	'Blue Orchids' is a heart-rending closer, but falling in love with Admiral somewhat ruined the song's use of steel string. It's so conspicuous when I listen to it now that I wish Mark would perform a version with his nylon string, at least for the sake of comparison. Strangely, I don't feel the same about any other acoustic track he's done pre-Admiral.
