Potsy put it best when it comes to a good disturbing film. It's one that makes you think and leaves you with a lot of train of thought after viewing the film. I remember watching Incendies and one part that is burned in my brain is the torture scene but what's amazing is nothing is shown. All you hear is the screaming in the background and let me tell you, that is much more disturbing and puts way more mental pictures and lets your brain run wild thinking instead of it being shown straight to you. I've watched plenty of gory films but when it comes to the idea of a good disturbing film, potsy nails what a good one should be without just being straight gore/porn because that shit is stupid. I'm not saying shock value and gore can't work but taken to the extreme it's just ridiculous and does nothing at that point. A little here and there isn't too bad if not taken over the top and done right. Anti-christ is a good example of some shock and gore without going to the extreme and really disturbing the viewers. |
