| Doo (you even) Wop?
Come celebrate the roots of pop and rock with some ancient Doo Wop jams. Vocal harmonies blended with blues created the doorstep for the movement that was rock and roll. | 1 | The Crows Gee
The quintessential doo wop track. Nonsense vocals ripped straight from the street corner to your stereo. Upbeat, happy and oozing with amateur talent. | 2 | Fleetwoods Come Softly To Me
Haunting and understated with just a pinch of risque subject matter to make it even more memorable. | 3 | Dion Runaround Sue
All Dion (and none of the Belmont's) a great story song spinning the ever present danger of loose women in society. | 4 | Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs Stay
Those high notes; amazing. | 5 | The Teenagers Featuring Frankie Lymon Why Do Fools Fall In Love
Speaking of high notes... Lymon's high tenor crooning is timeless. | 6 | The Dell-Vikings Come Go With Me
Blurring the racial lines with musical harmony. | 7 | The Platters Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
Showing how to take a show tune and turn it into pure gold. | 8 | The Skyliners Since I Don't Have You
Sorry Axl, you cannot top the original. | 9 | The Chordettes' Mister Sandman
Song has been used to great affect in many movies and television shows. This always makes me think of Back to the Future. | 10 | The Marcels Blue Moon
Have fun getting this one out of your head. Blue moon... you saw me standing alooooone.... | |

Not familiar with doo-wop albums, but I've always liked these songs:
The Coasters - "Yakety Yak"
The Turbans - "When You Dance" (supposedly the first song ever to actually say "doo wop" within a song)
The Four Deuces - "WPLJ" (originally know it from the Zappa cover, but the original's actually better)
The Penguins - "Earth Angel" (a classic of course)
James Brown - "Please Please Please"
The Chantels - "Maybe"

06.15.16 | Research honestly. It's amazing how easy it is now to get to a band that you enjoy roots. Back in the day you would read liner notes for 'thank you's' or listen to cover songs. Start in the past and work forwards. | iloveyouall
