Haken Ranked

Honestly not 100% about everything but 1, but I'm bored soooooooooooo

Visions

Really great, strong ideas, cool theme but I feel like this theme doesn't connect as well musically as the other three albums that do a pretty good job at embodying their concept. Title track is woah

Aquarius

Honestly, kinda tied with 2. A damn good debut and there are so many fun moments in the first half and a lot of really solid prog following it. Streams in particular may be the most playfully gorgeous thing I have ever heard (not there is much else not by this band in that category).

Affinity

Feels early to put this over Aquarius, but this album is so tight and feels consistent in terms of how every song has something really special to grab you. I love The Mountain and although they are great songs, Because It's There and As Death Embraces feel as if they are there to serve as transitions (which definitely not a problem) whereas every song here feels like it's own. Early standouts are The Architect, Bound By Gravity, and Lapse with Red Giant and The Endless Knot also working their way up quite a bit.

The Mountain

I mean, come on. This is prog at its finest. This album feels like a literal mountain and it's just an exhilarating experience. This site recommended me this band a little over 4 years ago on Thanksgiving morning when I was looking for prog and it was one of the few bands that clicked with me. However, I didn't listen to them very consistently afterwards (for no reason). It wasn't until I saw that they had a new single in 2013 that reminded me of them again. The single, Atlas Stone, had been one of the most magical things I have ever heard. It feels so fun and adventurous and builds superbly. At this point in time, I can easily call it one of my favorite songs ever and the rest of the album does a wonderful job at continuing the excellence of what this song showcased initially.
