04.21.16 | agreed so hard with Sunshine. act 1 and 2 are fantastic, but it feels like they couldn't work out how to finish it, so they just took the script from some random space/horror film and tried to make it fit.
if it had a more suitable act 3 it could prob be one of my fav films ever. and if the act 3 was a different movie with a fitting act 1 and 2 then that could also be pretty good prob. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | I just had a feeling that it was going to fall apart as soon as they entered the first ship. Once they saw the captain's logs, I almost turned it off so I would just remember the first 2 acts. |
hesperus
04.21.16 | Movies with Mikey (a great Youtube show) has an episode on Sunshine that I think gives an interesting justification for the 3rd act. You might want to check it out.
I go back and forth on the ending to 10 Cloverfield Lane. It did seem like a weird departure when I first saw it, but there's a part of me that likes the idea of a quasi-franchise that gives up-and-comers a chance to tell disconnected stories in the same universe. |

04.21.16 | Bane's voice is dope - copying it is my party piece :'( |

04.21.16 | Worst endings? Every superhero movie |
MO
04.21.16 | i was totally surprised King gave a nod to the ending of the mist. was quite the gong show
I'd add a of recent couple tarantino flicks to this list. he builds up character and tension so much, only for the finales to devolve into a fucking over the top mess of violence. it's like ehh |
hesperus
04.21.16 | There are a couple classic comedies that lose me on the ending. Monty Python's Holy Grail just sorta stops without warning, and Blazing Saddles went a bit too over the top with the fourth wall breaks. |
BallsDeep
04.21.16 | 10 Cloverfield lane was originally going to be named the cellar and feature no aliens whatsoever but apparently there was doubt as to its success at the box office so they haphazardly threw in afew spaceships and changed the films title and its fairly obvious that it was an after thought. Or else it would've been a great film. |
Alastor
04.21.16 | Holy Mountain by Jodorowsky is a cult classic (after all, Sleep named one of their albums in honour of the movie). But the ending is the worst 4th wall break I've ever seen. |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | The thing I regret most about seeing The Mist is that I couldn't walk out on it because the movie had already ended. Just a completely unnecessary and ill-conceived shock ending that ruined the movie for me. |
ScuroFantasma
04.21.16 | At first I didn't like Bane's voice but being a cool character made the voice cool too I guess, grew on me a lot becuase it's not the typical gruff villain voice. |
Rik VII
04.21.16 | Django Unchained |

04.21.16 | I agree on Sunshine as well, the first half of the movie was fantastic |
BallsDeep
04.21.16 | I thought the mist had a good ending. I couldn't say i saw it coming anyway |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | yeah Sunshine's ending was just weird. it was high on watchmojo's list of the worst plot twists, I'm pretty sure. right between some Shamalayan turds. |
Mongi123
04.21.16 | You kidding me with The Departed?? |
Rik VII
04.21.16 | The Departed ending is so much worse than the ending of the original movie Infernal Affairs. The last scene is just a cheap trick to satisfy the mainstream audience.
(Departed is still a good movie though) |
Shuyin
04.21.16 | I watched Infernal Affairs a few months ago and I honestly think it's more effective and memorable than The Departed, the acting is worse tho |
Rik VII
04.21.16 | Agreed with the first part, but not really with the part about the acting. The characters of The Departed are so one-dimensional that the actors don't have anything to show - I'm thinking of Nicholson and Damon. Those characters were so much better done in IA. When it comes to DiCaprio though, I agree.
IA in general has the better story, characters and dramaturgy. The Departed has better camera, cut, direction etc. It's the more technical movie, while IA has the better storytelling etc.
At the end of the day, I still prefer IA by a long shot because of its message/meaning and the suspense. |
Mongi123
04.21.16 | I just think his reasoning for it being poorly done is dumb. Basically he said it's awesome but it also sucked. Like what?? |
Rik VII
04.21.16 | I think what he means is that the ending is surprising and therefore shocking, but at the same time comes out of nowhere and seems odd.
But I'd say that it is mainly poorly done because it proved that the script writer didn't even get what Infernal Affairs was all about. (or - if he did - that he thought the American audience would be too stupid to understand it and therefore made it simpler.) |
Prognoz
04.21.16 | Disagree hard on The Mist. That was a hard-hitting ending right there. |
Mongi123
04.21.16 | I never had any problems with it. The Departed is one of my favorite modern movies by far.
Also, agreed about The Mist's ending. It's like a kick to the balls lol |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | I do not enjoy being kicked in the balls. #casinoroyale |
Shemson
04.21.16 | Sunshine for sure!
Departed not so much IMO.
Someone mentioned Holy Mountain which I agree with but then the entire movie was put together whilst jodorowski was on acid so it's not entirely surprising!
The Holy Grail was also a massive cop out like they just didn't have an ending for the movie so pulled that shit at the end I agree.
I'd like to add the Nicholas Cage movie Knowing. It was really cool for about an hour and built some really nice tension and stuff but then just went to shit.
Also Mel Gibson Signs. Again it was really good at building suspense and then they showed an awful looking alien which made me laugh and then the aliens were defeated by water!?!? Our whole planet is basically water, if they can master intergalactic travel surely they would've checked this out!? |

04.21.16 | im surprised people actually like TDKR at all, awful the whole ride for me.. now i wasnt a fan of TDK killing Two-Face off like that, especially when he was just getting going and a much better villain than Bane imo. |

04.21.16 | The Mist is awesome for most of its running time but the ending just kills it. Also agreed about Signs, the movie was kinda average, but that ending. Ugh horrible and insulting. |
Trebor.
04.21.16 | "There are a couple classic comedies that lose me on the ending. Monty Python's Holy Grail just sorta stops without warning, and Blazing Saddles went a bit too over the top with the fourth wall breaks."
duuuude both endings are perfect for the movies |
Shuyin
04.21.16 | Guess I'm the only one that actually liked Signs ending |
Trebor.
04.21.16 | The ending of Signs is fitting as the entire film is garbage |

04.21.16 | I can't agree with The Departed and The Mist
but other than that yeah |

04.21.16 | The Departed had a great ending.

04.21.16 | Signs is indeed the best ever bad ending
"stiiiiiiiiinky finger....coming from the body heeeeat" |
Trebor.
04.21.16 | Departed ending is perfect except for the fucking CGI rat |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | Was gonna say Blazing Saddles. I wanted more shitloads of dimes and fewer gay tropes. |
TheSonomaDude
04.21.16 | 5 is infuriating. I don't mind the idea of a father mercy killing his entire family, but the film should've ended there. The fact that the military comes in to save them just a mere 10 seconds later after he just killed his entire family is bullshit, and one of the biggest epic FAIL endings ever. wah wah wahhhhhhhhh |
BeyondCosby
04.21.16 | If you didn't like the movie ending for the Mist read the short stories. It appears in Stephen King's "Skeleton Key" and is so much more interesting. |
TheSonomaDude
04.21.16 | I've read the book The Mist is based off of. The ending there was fine |
BeyondCosby
04.21.16 | I can see why Hollywood might want some "closure" on the ending, but in all reality it really doesn't show an evolution of a character. One of the oldest rules of creative writing is "Killing your characters is too easy". If you're going to have him kill people do it at the beginning to show the process of healing he has to go through afterwards. |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | So that wasn't even an original idea? Good lord. Should have stolen the ending to Arthur Gordon Pym, now THAT would have been appropriate. |
SitarHero
04.21.16 | Yeah, The Mist went from incredibly bleak and effective with the mercy killings to incredibly bleak and wtf. It's a fine line.
Also, I'm gonna say it. The Force Awakens. |
BeyondCosby
04.21.16 | Amen. I didn't really care for the entire thing, but after the ending I literally said "Are you shitting me?"
So many people jerked off to that movie and I just didn't care for it. |
TheSonomaDude
04.21.16 | The movie itself was good, although the CGI was cartoony, and the ending was wah wah wahhhhh |
SitarHero
04.21.16 | I enjoyed the movie despite how derivative it was, and Kylo Ren was shaping up to be a truly disturbing villain, then he just forgets how to Sith. |
BeyondCosby
04.21.16 | I'm hoping that the reason why Kylo didn't just wreck her shit was that he took a blaster to the gut and the fact that he was surprised by her power. If you think about it, that dude hasn't had a challenge since leaving Luke's squad. So, after being out of it for a few years, when he's finally faced with a challenge he's a little rusty. I'm really hoping in the next movie he figures shit out and trains really hard to become one of the scariest Sith we've seen. I think the next movie would have to be super dark in order for it to really peak my interest. |
Sevengill
04.21.16 | Force Awakens was exactly what I expected, but a lot better than I expected it. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | "I just think his reasoning for it being poorly done is dumb. Basically he said it's awesome but it also sucked. Like what??"
You're right. That's exactly what I did say. I have no problem with shutting my brain off to enjoy something that ridiculous, but when a movie is so self-serious and then throws that in.... it's so damn disjointed and nonsensical. |
p4p
04.21.16 | You might like Infernal Affairs if you haven't. Better than The Departed, imo ofc. |
anat
04.21.16 | Hancock. Starts off as a legitimately interesting, what-if anti-hero story and just devolves into drivel. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | "You might like Infernal Affairs if you haven't. Better than The Departed, imo ofc.
It's an excellent film, miles ahead of the departed.
"Hancock. Starts off as a legitimately interesting, what-if anti-hero story and just devolves into drivel."
Lol the whole movie was drivel. |
Shemson
04.21.16 | Oh yeah also the last Lord of the Rings film! Just end already ffs! It ends like four times and after two and a half hours you're just desperate for it to end so that you can take a piss or whatever but no they gotta go back to the shire and blah blah blah who cares |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | Well, if you go by what the critics say and the amount of money it made, lots of people cared.
And if you're mad at the film, you should be even more pissed off at the book.
Not like you read it or anything.... |
Shemson
04.21.16 | Movies and books are different things you know? Some things that work in books don't work in movies. Books can afford to go into way more intricate detail and tell a whole story but that doesn't always work for movies. And yeah for what it's worth I read the books I'm not really sure why that's relevant?
Also movies making money has little to do with people caring, look at the amount of rubbish Will Smith or Vin Diesel churn out that make money |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | "Also movies making money has little to do with people caring, look at the amount of rubbish Will Smith or Vin Diesel churn out that make money"
I said more than just making money, buddy. Read again.
"Movies and books are different things you know? Some things that work in books don't work in movies. Its VERY relevant in this case, because the one problem people have with Tolkien his habit of getting bogged down in detail. |
Insurrection
04.21.16 | the end of the mist is hysterical |
Shemson
04.21.16 | Yeah you also said about critics. I could be wrong but if I recall a lot of critics said the ending dragged?
Sure, people have that problem with Tolkien but I like that in books personally.
Anyway, you're clearly a big fan of the movie adaptations and I'm not gonna change your mind so I'll leave you to it. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | I'm actually not a fan of the movie adaptations, but I'm also open to being wrong about them. I can see why some people love them. |
Deathconscious
04.21.16 | the first book was so boring i couldnt even finish it. |
anat
04.21.16 | "Lol the whole movie was drivel."
I'm certainly not gonna contest that, but it was at least a novel concept that could have made for a decent flick.
Let's also go with Now You See Me. Enjoyable for most of the running length but finished with an unnecessary plot twist. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | Do you like shit movies, or is that just me? |

04.21.16 | Am I saying these are cinephile classics? They're two movies with shit-tier endings as per the title of your list |
SgtShock
04.21.16 | Great list. Nymphomaniac's ending (so the end of part 2) was such an awful twist. My least favorite ending, hands down. |
Intothepit
04.21.16 | "Movies that had you hooked, and then ruined everything in the last few minutes.(Spoilers!!!)"
Apparently you didn't read the description... |
JAV
04.21.16 | 1. Agree, it was so good up until that point.
2. The ending was meh
3. Being a cloverfield movie I don't know what else anyone expected. The way to kill the monster and design was just incredibly lazily done.
4. End was pretty terrible, would have made more sense for him to die. No one will notice this billionaire in public.
5. That ending was epic disagree so hard. Dark as fuck and I loved it. |
anat
04.21.16 | Alright then. Let's go with Blair Witch, instead. |
furyroad97
04.21.16 | The Call with Halle Berry a few years ago's a prime example of fucking up in the last few minutes a movie that wasn't even that great to start off with. I'd put The Devil Inside from 2012, but that one didn't even end, it just kinda stopped at the climax. |
Insurrection
04.21.16 | ohh yea the call is a good one. i actually really liked the first two acts but holy hell that ending was a disaster |
