04.11.16 | Also 54 is pretty under appreciated, one of the few suspense movies where the suspense actually feels like it holds a punch. Probably due to the protagonists being confined to a small space with no real alternative or solution out of it. |

04.11.16 | If you think District 9 is "barely average," you're either a movie snob who turn up their nose to anything that amounts to a blockbuster, or you're a flat out idiot.
And Ex Machina was great. The whole comparison to how Ava and Caleb communicate compared to how Caleb and another human being(Nathan) communicate is beautiful yet harsh. |

04.11.16 | Disagreeing with me isn't what makes you an idiot. What makes you an idiot is calling labeling a pretty enjoyable movie as "barely average." That's what makes you an idiot. |
RadicalEd
04.11.16 | Are you deliberately being obtuse or something?
By labeling the movie "barely average" I made a comment about my enjoyment of the movie, which was not very high, I expressed a slightly negative opinion. You label it as "pretty enjoyable" which is obviously a more positive opinion on the movie.
Our opinions on the movie diverge, which caused you to call me an idiot.
Sadly this is a comment that hints at your inability to deal with people who have a different opinion than you, because your reaction that differing opinion is dismissive and and stupid. |

Ok.

No, you're differing opinion is dismissive and stupid. I don't care what anyone else's opinion is at this point. Just yours. |

Horribly underwhelming movie, for sure. Which is a massive shame because it really seemed like there was a perfect horror movie hiding under all the bullshit. |

04.11.16 | The first half or so was great but all the tension it built came crashing down in the second when they started parading the monster around like a damn circus clown |
jtswope
04.11.16 | The reason I think this movie underwhelmed some people is that they were expecting a monster movie, which it's not at all. If you catch what they're trying to convey about what the "monster" really is at the end, the whole movie makes a lot more sense. Not saying that would make you like it more, but it justifies everything that happens in the film. |
Shemson
04.11.16 | The Game is a bit of a hidden gem too, for some reason few seem to have heard of it. I'm sure you've already seen it but if you haven't seen Memento, judging from your list, you'll love it. |
LotusFlower
04.11.16 | Thats how I was watching it, but it still removes levels of subtlety that still couldve been there while getting the "THATS WHAT THE MONSTER ACTUALLY IS" point across. Also it prolly didnt help that I couldnt invest in the Mother/Son psychological mumbo jumbo because the kid character was just a badly written little shit instead of a genuinely "unknowingly doing wrong" kid like the movie tries to convince you of. |

It does have subtlety in how it scares you though because most of the scares are just you anticipating something happening. The movie's very slow-moving as a whole. As far as building tension goes, it's all in your mind and well-earned. What makes the kid character so great though is that for the first two acts he's this annoying little shit that you want to punt, and then toward the end you can totally sympathize with him, which is mainly due to great writing. |

04.11.16 | "The reason I think this movie underwhelmed some people is that they were expecting a monster movie"
My complaint is the exact opposite though, they took what could have been an excellent psychological thriller and turned it into a badly executed monster movie. I really liked the first half where it builds slowly and creates tension but then in the second half when the monster makes appearances in the most ridiculous ways, that tension is lost and the whole thing becomes laughable.
Also, the whole "hidden message" behind the monster was an interesting take but it isn't the be-all-end-all of horror movies that some make it out to be. It was so thinly veiled that it's a stretch to even call it hidden or even subtle for that matter. |
Shemson
04.11.16 | Good man, quality film that. That sequence where he thinks he's chasing someone but really their chasing him is gold and wouldn't make sense in any other film. |

04.11.16 | Heavenly Creatures would make for a good addition to this. Early Peter Jackson movie (1994) with a young Kate Winslet taking the lead |

04.11.16 | "It was so thinly veiled that it's a stretch to even call it hidden or even subtle for that matter."
A lot of people didn't really get the symbolism of the ending and mistakenly took it all literally though, so it definitely doesn't beat you over the head with the meaning of it all. |

04.11.16 | me earl and the dying girl is not very good
Anomalisa is life, check synecdoche, new york dude |

That's one of the Kaufman movies I haven't seen, so I will definitely check.

04.11.16 | "lol dude chill out, I like all of his movies, I just think there's a lot better shit out there"
That was just a joke bruh. This isn't the be all end all of movie lists or my favorites. I just threw a bunch of random movies together that I thought people might dig. Your comment just sounded like something you'd hear from one of those film school kids who once worshipped Fincher but now disowns him. So I couldn't resist... |

04.11.16 | didnt dig Anomalisa at all, was like monotone elevator music for 2 hours.. very mundane but that's life isnt it. |

04.11.16 | Different strokes bud. It doesn't have a lot of replay value, but I was pretty immersed the whole time. |

04.11.16 | What made it really cool for me was that it could only have worked as an animated movie. For the first ten minutes I was like why is this even stop motion, but then it totally justifies it from a technical and story standpoint. |

04.11.16 | just not really into Kaufman other than Adaptation.. Nice Nic Cage performance
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call gotta a killer Nic Cage performance too. |
