EyesWideShut
12.21.15 | yea my itunes is up to date and i didnt have a single problem until yesterday.. |
onionbubs
12.21.15 | Oh this happened to me once. Not fun.
The ipod probably became corrupted because you put a file on it that isn't in a format the ipod supports. itunes will not recognize the ipod unless you put it in disk mode (which i dont remember how to do but you can look it up). while in disc mode, you go into your computer settings and edit those of your ipod, which i dont remember exactly what to do there. youre gonna need to look that part up. after that, just restore it, and sync the music to it.
convert all your files to acc so they'll be compatible with it. it really sucks when it happens, but its fixable. don't worry too much about it, your ipod is fine. :) |

12.21.15 | a few months ago the latest software download on my ipod raced ahead of the version of itunes on my mac and the device wouldn't synch to it and I couldn't download a new version of itunes until I upgraded to OS X El Capitan on the mac.

12.21.15 | Step 1: Create New Folder on Desktop
Name it 'iPod Back-Up' or 'Shit Saver Deluxe', whatever.
Step 2: Enable Disk Mode on your iPod.
I believe this method will work on any iPod generation. You can use the link for this silly video for instructions if you want to see the method in action.
Link: https://youtu.be/F-BgK2XsZc0
It is kind of easy, but does seem weird the first time.
a) Hold the Select (middle) button and the Menu button simultaneously until the Apple logo shows up as a reset.
b) When the Apple logo appears, switch and hold the Select button and the Play/Pause button
c) This should enable 'Disk Mode' essentially converting your iPod into a basic storage device until you are finished backing it up, when you will next reset the iPod again a la Step 2, section a.
d) Connect the iPod to a computer or laptop.
NOTE: You need to manually eject the device when you are done to prevent any damage to the iPod or the computer (probably no huge consequences, but possible data loss.) This works the same as if you connect a phone to your computer.
There is probably a button in the program you install to do this, but there should always be an icon showing a connected device in the bottom right-hand corner of your task bar, just right click the USB icon and click eject. The device should tell you when it is safe to remove.
Step 3: Install iExplorer
https://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/download-ie3-pc
If it asks you if you wan to run the program, go for it- if not, click the new icon on your desktop. It will ask about purchasing- select 'Continue with Demo Mode.'
Step 4: Back that crap up.
a) Click media Library in the upper left-hand corner.
b) Select all files (click one and then hold CTRL + A)
c) Select 'Transfer From iPod Classic'
d) Select 'Transfer Selected to Folder' and pick the folder you made earlier.
Your copying begins at that point. It can take quite a while, it will show activity/progress in the lower left-hand of the iExplorer window. Make sure the laptop/computer is continually connected to a power-source and be patient.
This should back up all of your files, but I'm not exactly sure how it will end up formatting them (by artist, song name, whatever.)
Ta-Da!
You should be good after that to move the music to an other device from that folder. My back-up is underway now and I haven't done one in a while, so we'll see how it goes.

12.21.15 | I dug that out from an email I typed up for my cousin last year. I hope it helps if these other users haven't already solved your problems. |
Ocean of Noise
12.21.15 | I would just take it to the Apple store and see if they can do anything. If not, toss it.
Great digs btw. |
