12.19.15 | i knew han was going to die idk i could feel it
i want to know more about kylo and luke's history and what happened between RotJ and TFA and the Knights of Ren and all that good stuff |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | I'm pretty confident that all the unanswered questions will be answered eventually cuz it's a planned trilogy and so faulting the movie for reserving it's secrets to the rest of the movies is pretty unfair
Now I wonder if Luke will also die |
Minushuman24
12.19.15 | I knew Han was going to die months ago, it made the most sense, but still that moment leading up to it was heartbreaking to watch, It was the right move to kill him off, but still shit sucked to watch man.
If anything it will probably be the end of the 9th that Luke dies |
tempest--
12.19.15 | honestly i found the humour a little too much. i was expecting more fanservice/callback stuff but hoping for less.
this did feel very similar to the OT and i'm hoping ep 8 and 9 will be more innovative |

12.19.15 | Anyone else feel that the inclusion of the original cast felt really off? Like, the new people pretty much entirely killed it and Gleeson did a pretty awesome Hitler rant but the only ones who were still passable from the old cast were Ford and the guy who plays Chewie tbh. Even C3PO and R2D2 were kind of annoying in their little bit of screen time but I guess they were annoying in all the other movies too.
I thought all the scenes between Han Solo and Leia felt really off. I didn't get any of the chemistry that I got from the older movies and they made the movie seem really trite which is annoying because the small part that they had was really integral to the main villain.
Really overall the only other thing that I didn't like about the movie was that it didn't really make me feel anything. There were no big laughs, no big 'oh fuck' moments. Even though the pacing was brisk and really good overall and I was never bored throughout the movie, I kind of felt underwhelmed, which is odd because before I saw the movie I was kind of convinced that I didn't care too much how good it would be. |
wwf
12.19.15 | Han Solo never should've lived to be old tbh.
Also I really hope Rey's force powers become too powerful to control and we get some sweet scenes in the next movie where she practically loses it because she's clearly vastly gifted |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | I'm totally fine with it feeling a lot like the original trilogy because again this is only part 1 so I'm sure it's done as a way to respect the films and act as a passing of the torch of sorts, the new movies will have a more defined identity of their own
plus it was a fucking nostalgic blast of a film and I'm a bitch for that so Idec |
FourthDyke
12.19.15 | Idk what people like about this. i fxcking love star wars but this movie was average at best |
FourthDyke
12.19.15 | Nothings happening? No emotional attachments being made? ya lets just kill han solo then |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | There were a lot of small details that bugged me tho (like for example how tf did Rey knew she could mind control? she wasn't even shown any Jedi powers at all, I guess maybe she had a vision of it like when she touched the light saber that should've been shown) but nothing that put me off
I don't think there's any point where a film has left me in denial for this long after watching it |
BigPleb
12.19.15 | Han's death was done perfectly.
Ren has the making of a great villain, love the human element in his character.
Also this was way above average and probably in the top 3 SW. |

I really agree with this actually, but even though for the most part it got the feel of the originals bang-on, I just thought that it was extremely ironic that the most off-putting part of that feel was some of the stuff that was actually directly from the original.
Also I have to say that the thing I probably enjoyed most about the movie is that it actually really feels like a living, breathing world for the first time in over thirty years. That short scene near the beginning where Rey sits down next to a AT-AT that's buried in the sand and puts on an old rebel helmet for like no reason put the biggest smile on my face |
FourthDyke
12.19.15 | Ben solo so powerful cant beat people who have never wielded lightsabres before |
impoppy
12.19.15 | Definitely better than Episode 1-3, so there's that. And yeah a lot of people are pissed that Kylo Ren isn't some 100% evil stereotype which makes him less intimidating. Which is fucking stupid. He's clearly really powerful, but his heart isn't totally in it which is interesting, not lame. |

wwf
12.19.15 | 'Ben solo so powerful cant beat people who have never wielded lightsabres before'
The movie's aware of that in its own logic though, clearly; Snoke makes fun of Kylo Ren for being bested by a girl that just found out she can use the force earlier in the movie. That's why I hope that Rey's powers are shown to be extremely powerful and she actually flirts with the dark side in a big way in the next two movies. |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | Kylo Ren being kind of a little bitch was good actually it means he's way below the hot shit he claims to be cuz nobody built up Ren as this big legendary bad ass who is truly evil and unstoppable other than himself |
LotusFlower
12.19.15 | Ahhhhhh I loved it. Any complaints I have rest around how uncomfortably close it is in its parallel to episode 4 (it's literally a scene by scene thing) and some
Of the shots in certain scenes killed the mood (cutting to everyone screaming when and died, those shots should've come after Han dropped).
Other than that I loved how great the new actors performances were (the New Order speech was amazing), how awesome the final battle was (no disgusting overstuffed dance coeography, just awesome power/environment blending) and I als loved all the callbacks to previous films not being so overwhelming.
Just so good. I can't wait for episode8! |

I'll admit Han being killed like that....its still bothering me haha. |

kylo ren's got emotional problems man but really be honest with yourself, TFA is a masterpiece compared to the prequels

Minushuman24
12.19.15 | I thought the old characters were organically introduced personally, and I feel like Kylo was what Anakin was supposed to be in the prequels, but made him more of a bitch.... Kylo is still kind of a bitch, but in a better written way |
LotusFlower
12.19.15 | "Yeah let's just kill Han solo then"
I thought that scene was one of the best in the series. It's much like an opposite of the vader/Ben fight in episode 4. Instead of Ben knowing it was his time and having a final confrontation for old times sake, it was Han letting his emotions overpower him and his confrontation leading to his death.
Not to mention how shocking it was when Kylo stabbed him. The build up, suspense, and Kylo's words really made a large impact even though it was obvious he was going to off Han. Maybe it was in the way he thanked Han for getting
Killed so he could drop any emotional baggage to become more like vader.
Anyways, trying to say there was no emotional attatchment and it was forced is silly. |
BigPleb
12.19.15 | I loved the way they handled Han tbh, I feel like Kylo had to kill him as that pretty much cemented his commitment to the dark side. |

12.19.15 | rule #1 of all movies and tvs where lots of people die and it looks like a main character died until you see the corpse their fate is uncertain
He could've landed on a vent like luke did in ESB and he survived the wound due to not being penetrated in a vital spot plus the heat of the light cauterizing the wound, weirder things have happened in the original movies but who knows
"Maybe he just signed it so his death wouldn't get spoiled?"
That's possible too actually but it seems almost too well planned out for it to be true, could be tho idk |
Minushuman24
12.19.15 | Shes's confirmed for the next movie, thankfully. I was really irritated of how little they used such a cool looking character, She was boba Fetted so fast
His death looked pretty final to me, maybe it is a force ghost thing, which wouldn't make too much sense, because he can't use the force |
Minushuman24
12.19.15 | The biggest waste of talent in the movie thought was getting the guys from the Raid then having them do pretty much nothing except run and get eaten by the weird CG monsters |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | yea that was really weird, there's a lot of odd cameos that you couldn't even really notice at all for no apparent reason, probably just actors being like hey I wanna be here too!
did you know that Daniel Craig was the stormtrooper that Rey mind controlled? wtf who would ever notice that, seems like a thing done entirely for the actor's sakes which is okay I guess but still |
Minushuman24
12.19.15 | yeahhh, never would have gotten that, same with simon pegg as an alien somewhere in there. Problem with the Raid guys is that they set up that entire scene, and were kinda billed to be a little more than just a cameo, it's a minor complaint, but it still bugged me that they didn't do a kickass action scene |

impoppy
12.19.15 | Yeah Finn isn't dead, he was pretty clearly breathing, plus when they rescued him someone said "he's got a heartbeat" and Rey said they'd meet again but had to leave to meet Luke. Definitely didn't seem to be treated as dead.
Also Rey was good with a lightsaber for two reasons. 1. If you pay attention she thrusts it more than swings it, like she has done with her staff since she was a young girl. 2. The Force plays a role in saber combat, and it was made pretty apparent that she was actually more naturally powerful than Kylo when it came to the Force.
Also it was a bullshit deus ex machina plot device, but the Force pretty much always has been throughout the franchise. Nothing new there. |
Friday13th
12.19.15 | Okay, Sputnik's resident Vader here. It's better than the prequels, but not better than the trilogy. I was surprised at how many parallels there are between it and A New Hope. The droid w. the rebel plans, crash landing in the desert, blast out with the Millennium Falcon, rescue the girl, old man is killed...*cries*...they destroy the space station. Of course, there are still many unanswered questions, which is part of why it's clearly more exciting than the prequels. I guess my biggest disappointments were Han dying (though I saw it coming), the villains other than Kylo being lame, and Luke doesn't say a word. The new protagonists are great though; I am really happy with that. |
Friday13th
12.19.15 | I was surprised when Rey kicked Kylo's ass. He was wounded by the same crossbow you saw explode a couple of stormtroopers earlier, though. Rey is amazing, I just can't wait to have it confirmed if she's Luke's daughter or not. |

AlexKzillion
12.19.15 | Anakin's/Luke's original lightsaber being recovered from Cloud City somehow is straight bullshit tbh. The ground splitting between Kylo Ren and Rey at the end of the movie was pretty dumb too. I mean they were sitting three feet from each other, and the ground just happens to split in between them perfectly. Even the prequels didn't have that crap. |
Gameofmetal
12.19.15 | come on man, it's dramatic effect. that's just kinda overly nitpicky about the ground splitting |
AlexKzillion
12.19.15 | That's the only part in the movie where I was just like "really?". It just seemed like a lousy way to end such a great fight. |
LotusFlower
12.19.15 | i agree it was anti-climatic, at least in Revenge of the Sith it ended with Obi Wan abandoning Anikan's burning body. |
AlexKzillion
12.19.15 | "That last bit is precisely why I didn't find it very believable, unfortunately. She was inches from a fissure or cliff face while crossing swords with a Sith having been trounced until that point, but the second she closed her eyes I was like "yup, here we go". Sure enough, Ren suddenly has the footing of a toddler with Talipes and gets his ass kicked."
I don't think Kylo Ren is as strong with the force as everyone thought he was going to be. The fact that Rey kicked his ass at the end of the movie kind of proves this, and Snoke even says that he needs to complete Kylo Ren's training. He's probably the weakest Sith we've seen in an actual movie. |
wwf
12.19.15 | Ren can apparently stop blasters mid-air
Which reminds me though, he was clearly very distraught at the end of the movie because he was fucking up constantly. A little bit deus ex machina, a little bit clever writing. It can be both. |
Gwyn.
12.19.15 | Like I mentioned Kylo ISN'T actually that strong, actually kind of a bitch and no one other than Kylo himself built himself as some unstoppable baddie (Sure the guards and stuff were afraid of him but he was destroying whole rooms and force chocking ppl who tf wouldnt' get be afraid of that) and him not actually being that way gives potential for his character in the next few movies to be more interesting cuz therell be more conflict between choosing to continue what darth vader was doing or return to his family, like is he gonna forsake everything and "Complete" his training or was leia right and they can still bring 'em back?
I'm thinking either he'll definitely join the dark side next round and maybe Snoke will die with him becoming the ultimate baddie or he'll return to the light to help in the third one |
Minushuman24
12.19.15 | He was injured, his training was never complete, and the fact that he's never really had to face anyone with a lighsaber. Rey fought with her staff, so at least she knew how to fight, and she was force adept |
Friday13th
12.19.15 | ^ we don't know how many battles Kylo has been in yet...I kinda assume he dueled Luke or some cool backstory like that I dunno. |
impoppy
12.19.15 | I mean the first time she ever used the force she turned his mind reading around on him. She's clearly just exceptional. But yeah Kylo could just be shit, but still held in a high position in the New Order simply because shitty sith/jedi is still way better than the best normal human/creature in the group. Being related to Vader though definitely leads me to think he's at least SUPPOSED to be considered strong. Or have the potential to be at least. |
AlexKzillion
12.19.15 | He probably did duel Luke when he decided to turn to the darkside. Luke probably was training Kylo the way Yoda trained Luke though, saberless, so it makes sense. |

12.19.15 | It's a good film, looks good visually too. The plot is weak though, it seems like more of a homage to a New Hope instead of its own thing. Rey is an interesting character and so is Ren. I just hope they don't turn out to be brother/sister but if they were i'm sure Leia would have said something. Killing off Han was needed and I've always had the feeling Ford wasn't that big on being in the franchise anyway.
Not sure how this is maintaining an 8.9 avg on IMdB though. It's a strong 7/weak 8 |
TheSonomaDude
12.19.15 | According to my uncle, The Phantom Menace had just as much hype as this and the fan reception was pretty similar. Most fans, apparently, were in disbelief that the supposed "masterpiece" was actually mediocre/shit, and even big critics did their best to defend the movie. For a while, TPM's had a general reception of being a really good movie. He said it wasnt until the next year or so when fans finally began universally admitting the film to be complete garbage. It took a while for the hype to die down. Not sure how true that is but it makes sense. |

zaruyache
12.20.15 | "and that entails no romantic relationships"
in the original extended universe he and Leia both had like a dozen kids between them so I don't see why Luke would have to swear off the ladies in this universe. Kinda makes sense that he wouldn't have time for a Mara Jade equivalent given he wasn't training Jedi for long before he went into exile.
Just saw the film and thought it was p gud. I liked that it followed New Hope in a lot of ways, but also took pieces from Empire and Jedi, which I hope implies that the next two films won't just be rehashes of those storylines but will move away and tell their own stories. I really want Kylo Ren's development to work opposite of Vader's where he'll become more corrupt and believable as the bad guy (instead of angsty Anakin Jr) as time goes on, instead of slowly moving toward redemption like Vader did. |

12.20.15 | kylo ren suffers from over-exposure without his mask on. it's not his fault either - i think all masked heroes/villains lose that mystery and (in ren's case) that intimidation factor once the mask is gone.

12.20.15 | Tru that Lloyd I'm a man's man
Tbh he just should have kept the mask on |
Gyromania
12.20.15 | yeah ren looks, sounds, and acts like a badass when he has the mask on, but when he takes it off something change. i can't place it |

12.20.15 | it was definitely his voice for me, without the mask it suddenly became much less menacing |
DamnVanne
12.20.15 | The best thing I took from the movie was this line, 'I didn't know there was this much green in the whole galaxy!' |
Gyromania
12.20.15 | agreed, the voice was a big part of his character. he just seemed so dangerous and in control behind that mask |
theBoneyKing
12.20.15 | I think Ren is supposed to seem kind of lame once he takes his mask off. As others have said, he is the one who has built himself up as a badass, and the mask/voice is a large part of that image, and it works as a superficial way to conceal his weaknesses. When he takes the mask off, we see him as the little birch he really is. He had the potential to be a really great character if they flesh out his struggles between light and dark.
I really enjoyed the movie overall, with some healthy criticisms re: the similarities to IV and the failure to flesh out the history of the galaxy since Jedi. I understand that they want to leave stuff mysterious so they can gradually reveal it during the next couple movies but I felt they could have revealed more. Like, how much of the galaxy did the Republic control compared to the First Order, are they at constant war with one another, how did the Repbulic and the Resistance end up being separate entities, etc. Obviously the Republic's government no longer exists so these questions may be irrelevant. |
anarchistfish
12.20.15 | "and they played the same music during snoke's scene as they did when palpatine was telling anakin the story"
yeah I mean come on that's gotta be more than a coincidence
"So you're implying that he could also save himself from death?"
you saying it's impossible sidious was lying/wrong? wouldn't surprise me if plagueis hided the fact he could keep himself from being immortal from his apprentice
"kylo ren suffers from over-exposure without his mask on. it's not his fault either - i think all masked heroes/villains lose that mystery and (in ren's case) that intimidation factor once the mask is gone. "
I kinda liked it. from the trailers and the beginning of the film you think he's just gonna be a boring all powerful being like vader but then the cracks in his personality start showing through very quickly so you actually see how unstable he is. basically what boneyking said.
"movie was fantastic, people hating on it are honestly bitch-made as fuck and can shoot themselves in the face and die that is all"
thank you

YetAnotherBrick
12.20.15 | idk if anyone has said this sentiment yet, but for what it's worth: i love that there's still scenes of Ren with his mask on after we've already seen his face. it's like, here he is trying to be all evil again, but the audience has already seen his true self and it's all we're picturing now even tho you still have your mask on haha.
i thought the movie was perfect. people complain about it constantly recalling A New Hope, but i think that was kind of the point. the same events are happening with different characters- it's a society that still isn't heeding the lessons of history |
anarchistfish

i had the same questions when I saw it. I think what's meant to have happened (after doing some research) is that the empire didn't totally fall with the destruction of the death star (which makes sense) and continued to fight the rebels until they were finally defeated in the battle of jakku (which is why they put a fat crashed star destroyer in the film there). the rebels became the new republic but they didn't regain control of all parts of the galaxy, which the first order (which I think is inspired by but different to the empire) control. republic and first order have an official truce but republic secretly supports the "resistance".

I dont know, I think the fact that he took his mask of just like that adds to his unpredictability. e.g. him killing solo, going ape shit whenever he got mad etc... |
theBoneyKing
12.20.15 | The Expanded Universe has a lot of great stuff but it went to shit after a while. There were elements of it that I would definitely not mind seeing resurface in the new canon, but by and large it is good that it's gone. |

12.20.15 | agreed romulan. another way i can forgive this for being so ANH inspired is that it almost functions as a remake. people are already starting to say ANH is looking a bit dated so with the visuals this film has it might end up being the one to watch in 20-30 years time |
SharkTooth
12.20.15 | He was far less intimidating without the mask tho |
anarchistfish
12.20.15 | I hope they remake KOTOR tbh. sounds like the kind of game I'd love but I don't think I could handle those graphics |
anarchistfish
12.20.15 | "He was far less intimidating without the mask tho"
that's the point though. he's not meant to be darth vader mk.2. everyone was saying before the film's release they were worried cos kylo ren looked like just a darth vader wannabe in the trailers and you never get to see his face so there isn't that depth. then the film subverts that and makes that the whole point of his character. revealing his face so early just shows the audiences how weak he actually is.
saying that if they follow the OT template I definitely expect VIII to be darker and kylo stronger. they'll probably kill off someone like poe or finn too |
RunOfTheMill
12.20.15 | "He was far less intimidating without the mask tho"
That's the point of his character. He acts like he's all there, as if he's Vader 2.0, but he's really just an insecure kid who gets into fits when things don't go his way. He's not the perfect bad guy and he's not supposed to be. |
RunOfTheMill
12.20.15 | oh wow Anarchistfish literally said the exact same thing I had to say lol, but our point stands.
Kylo Ren was one of my favourite characters of the movie, although I pretty much liked all of them. Great movie. |
Insurrection
12.20.15 | i feel like kylo is going to have the opposite development as Vader. his weakness to the light side and instability were already shown. now especially under snoke he will probably give in completely to the dark. so the whole mask thing makes sense |
anarchistfish
12.20.15 | kylo ren might be my favourite star wars villain yet. with his unstable emotions he feels more sith than any of the sith did and he's better acted than anakin too |

If he can pull off real gritty acting instead of that angsty junk he did (well), then Kylo could be a really cool anti-Vader. And you know we're going to get some cool Kylo/Ren sabre fights when they're both trained :D |

JWT155
12.21.15 | Agreed. People are complaining about Adam Driver's performance but their complaints sound more or less they have disdain for his character. He's supposed to be immature, quick to anger, even angsty. Similar to Joffrey in Game of Thrones, you're supposed to be put off by his character. |

that would be the biggest blue balls ever. it's about time we had a galactus-level villain in a sci-fi movie and snoke looks to be the closest thing we'll get
and about rey, in the trailers luke's voiceover was like "the force runs in my family. my father had it, my sister has it, i have it, and you have it too." i can only assume he said that cause she is part of his family |

also I kind of hope that Rey and Finn have a Han and Leia romance thing going forward because the actors have fantastic chemistry and their googly-eyed/flirty dynamic was painfully adorable |
Space Jester
12.21.15 | Makes sense in canon to not mention the prequels anyway, since almost all of the characters who were around for them have died. They wouldn't have any impact on the events of the movie. |
Ignimbrite
12.21.15 | also also besides Kylo Ren being a super well-written and complex villain, he had some awesome dialogue, and Adam Driver completely killed it.
"I'm being torn apart. I want to be free of this pain, and I know what I have to do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. Will you help me?"
"Forgive me. I feel it again... The pull to the light."
like, Star Wars has always been about being tempted by the dark side, and it's really interesting to see the opposite happen. similarly, it's really cool how Kylo Ren's arc mirrored that of Luke's in RotJ: while Luke was a light-sider who was tempted by the dark side but chose to reject it and *save* his father's life, Ben is a dark-sider who was tempted by the light side but chose to reject it and *kill* his father. |
zaruyache
12.21.15 | "and about rey, in the trailers luke's voiceover"
that was from Return of the Jedi where Luke says it to Leia, so I don't think it should necessarily be interpreted as applying to Rey. |
Ignimbrite
12.21.15 | ALSO I loved when Ben/Kylo first runs into Finn in the forest before the duel(s) start, and he yells, "TRAITOR!" at Finn. Besides the fucking incredible delivery by Adam Driver, it's also a really layered scene: for one thing, it's more than just Ben being upset at a traitor for deserting, but him recognizing the agency of a person he chose to more-or-less dismiss during the Jakku massacre at the beginning of the movie.
More than that, though, him being so angry at Finn is, I think, RenBen projecting his angsty bullshit onto Finn. Kylo Ren was given the choice between the light and the dark, and he chose the dark when he killed his father. He thought he made the right choice: hell, he may have even thought that he didn't even *have* another choice. Finn, on the other hand, was presented the choice between light and dark at the beginning of the movie, and he had the strength to choose the light and refused to kill the villagers. Ben sees, in Finn's actions, that his choosing the dark side may have not been unavoidable after all, and the implications for it are bleak. |
theNateman
12.21.15 | My only real problem with the movie is that I feel like han's death should have been given more reverence, and we shouldn't have even seen Luke at all. I feel like we should have gotten a funeral scene for Han , and then the movie ends with Artoo, Rey, and chewer leaving in search of Luke, and then find Luke at the beginning of VIII
|
kris.
12.21.15 | nah the ending was perfect
also the lightsaber duel between kylo and finn/rey was honestly the best thing involving a lightsaber the series has ever done. |
LotusFlower
12.21.15 | It's up there for best lightsaber battle for sure (I still think Luke pummeling Vader in Episode 6 was awesome and so was the cinematography in the Vader/Luke battle in episode 5). I liked that there was actual use of the environment during the battle like trees getting chopped down or sabers bouncing off the rocks and stuff. Not to mention that it seemed like they were actually fighting and werent just dancing and prancing around like they do in episodes 1-3. |
theNateman
12.21.15 | Yeah the lightsaber fight was freaking dope. Easily equal to episode 5 and 6. Also, nobody's mentioned it yet, but I love how real the lightsaber blades looked. Even the legacy blade pulsed with energy, in constant motion. I hate that absolutely plastic look the sabers had in the prequels. |
LotusFlower
12.21.15 | Oh yeah, lightsabers looked amazing. Best part was when Kylo went apeshit on Hux after he told him that Finn and Rey escaped with BB and he drives the saber at his throat. The blade effects were so amazing that I could honestly believe that it was a real thing. |

First off, I was expecting Rey and Kylo Ren to be brother and sister, kinda symbolizing how the Skywalker family has been on both sides of the force and now the new generation has that brother-sister dynamic rather than parent-child.
Im kinda expecting Kylo to be "Vader-fied" in the next movie as the new emperor guy said that he was ready for his final part of training. If I recall, he even brought this up after losing the fight to Rey.

zaruyache
12.21.15 | Yeah, I'm sure he probably had some combat experience slashing down the locals or someone with a weapon usable against a 'sabre, but probably not anyone with any force abilities. So even if he did fight competent rebel soldiers, he could've just choked them or blasted them against a wall if he felt like it--no resistance possible. That probably wasn't good for his combat skills. And then compound that by the fact that Rey already showed she could resist his powers anyway, so he prob didn't use force powers in the fight because he thought they might not've worked. Just hack and slash her till she dead wait i forget how to swing sword oops |

AlexKzillion
12.21.15 | Thats actually a good question. Maybe Snoke wants Kylo to find Luke so Snoke can fight him. |
hal1ax
12.21.15 | ya that makes sense. i just kind of got the feeling that Kylo personally wanted to find him... idk maybe he wants to show him how strong he has become with the dark side or something, rub it in Lukes face. |
AlexKzillion
12.21.15 | True, plus he probably thinks Luke killed Vader, and Kylo like worships Vader. |
RivalSkoomaDealer
12.21.15 | Snoke is the same race of Plagueis (can't remember what they're called, but it's the same race as the "banking clan" separatist guy from Episode II) and in the novels is said to have pulled all of the strings to get Palpatine into the Senate. It's possible Palpatine was unable to actually kill Plaguies and was able to influence Kylo's fall to the dark side.
I know the EU was wiped out, but seems like a pretty big coincidence he happens to be the same race as Plagueis. That's why I think they're the same. Would fit the whole "poetry" thing Star Wars has always had going on. |
RivalSkoomaDealer
12.21.15 | He's a "Muun" that's what their race is called. |

DungeonBoy
12.21.15 | Lol, Kylo isn't dead, no way. I really like the movie. Snoke was my least favorite character. He was way too Marvel like something out of green lantern. |
hal1ax
12.21.15 | ya dude i don't think he is dead either.. I'm just saying if Snoke is actually Plagueis, Kylo being dead could be a possibility since Plagueis has resurrection powers. |
AlexKzillion
12.21.15 | Plagueis from the EU didn't look anything like Snoke. All the Aliens/Species in the Force Awakens seemed new except for Chewbacca. Abrahms seemed to throw away all of the Lucas Aliens/Species and just made his own. |

12.21.15 | shut the fuck up about snoke being plagueis. they're not going to dredge anything up from the dogshit prequels, especially having the main villain turn out to be some cunt who was talked about for like 2 mins of horrible dialogue. |

12.22.15 | Solid 6/10. Cool action but the plot is a complete set up for the next two films. The original Star Wars wasn't like that; you could watch it on your own and be completely satisfied with the told story. Here, you need to watch the other films, and I'm not sure if I like that. It was also just a 150 minute long "DONT YOU REMEMBER THIS FROM THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY???" fanboy jizz fest, and Kylo Ren is proof that Limp Bizkit exists in other galaxies.
Whatever, I'm a dick. |

Space Jester
12.22.15 | I wont say that they didn't have their moments but there's are so many things wrong with the prequels that it's hard to think about individual good aspects when as a whole they're really bad. |

12.22.15 | I kinda like Phantom Menace but I don't have any desire to watch the other two ever again, whether it be in a serious sit-down viewing or casually because they're the only things on TV and I want the TV on for some reason. |
AlexKzillion
12.22.15 | All the prequels have some great scenes and ideas, but a lot of them just weren't fully expanded upon. If I'm being honest, ROTS is probably my favorite star wars movie cause insane nostalgia, but it also has many flaws. I think it's hard to get past the horrible dialogue, romance, contradictions to the original trilogy, plot holes, CGI overuse, annoying characters, and just missed opportunities that were present in the films. I personally don't hate them, but it's kind of hard to argue against not hating them. |

12.22.15 | The OT are the one and only, that shit stuck with me hard when I saw them for the first time when I was like 6 and I haven't stopped loving them
I liked the prequels alright when I was a little kid but they never blew me away except EP3 (Which I saw again recently and it wasn't nearly as good as I remembered but I didn't hate it, maybe cuz I just love star wars that much). I've thought about giving them fair shots several times again but god damn everytime I see a new video about them I'm reminded of stuff they had in and realize how much bullshit they had so I haven't had the will power |
AlexKzillion
12.22.15 | Objectively the prequels are bad, and I definitely agree that most people who grew up with the prequels seem to like them better (seeing as I'm one of them). Through EU and both clone wars series's, which actually expands on stuff like Anakin and Obi Wan's friendship, it's a lot easier to connect with and care about the characters, which gives a scene like Obi Wan's "YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!" dialogue in ROTS a lot more emotion. That's just my experience. |
Space Jester
12.22.15 | Clone Wars is actually great. A bit shaky in the beginning but it gets really good. |

12.22.15 | yeah but anakin's and obi's friendship is never really established. they just have a mentor/bitchy apprentice relationship. |

12.22.15 | imo lucas should've hired a human or 2 to look over the scripts. doesn't matter now; star wars is back to not sucking so i'm happy. |

12.22.15 | And that's where the prequel films fail for me plot wise. We shouldn't have to wait until the third installment in the trilogy to actually see this great friendship between Anakin & Obi Wan that's talked about in the OT. |
Gwyn.
12.22.15 | More so than the plot not making much sense or it conflicting with the lore in a lot of ways, the absolute biggest problem with the prequels is the atrocious dialogue. If someone had just handled the script other than George Lucas I think everybody would've enjoyed the prequels a whole lot more
edit: got sniped but yea pretty much what satellite said |

12.22.15 | Star Wars ep 7 is original like little Red Riding Hood after 200 years we are hearing it. Characters are random and useless. Acting is awful. Screenplay is too fast: it seems to be a long trailer. |

just seen it, comfortable 8-9/10 for me, story was great and new leads killed it. Only things I wasn't a huuge fan of was Snoke - he doesn't look threatening or powerful at all, get the same vibe from him as Saruman in LotR, not powerful enough to be in complete control. Other was that there was hardly any rest time between one fight to the next, pacing could have been slowed down a bit and expanded upon. Other than that loved it. |

12.23.15 | Supreme Leader Snoke Has Been Around For Ages
The 11 Biggest Differences Between the Book and Movie Versions of The Force Awakens
http://io9.gizmodo.com/the-11-biggest-differences-between-the-book-and-movie-v-1749329046
Supreme Leader Snoke is a whacking great mystery throughout The Force Awakens. Who is he? Where did he come from? Is he a Sith? Is he really that big, or is he holocommunicating with some major compensation issues?
The novelization doesn’t answer all of those questions, but it gives some insight into Snoke by revealing that he’s been working behind the scenes for quite some time, even during the Original Trilogy. In one of their several hologram chit chats, Snoke reveals to Kylo Ren that he actually had apprentices before the fallen Solo. But Ben shows the most promise, because he didn’t begin his training as an adept of the Dark Side, but was corrupted and fell from the light, something Snoke hadn’t experienced before:
It is far more than that. It is where you are from. What you are made of. The Dark Side—and the Light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work.
Snoke then recalls to Kylo that he saw the Empire “rise, and then fall”, and even that he knew that Darth Vader was Luke’s father (which is probably something Luke didn’t go touting publicly after Endor). This is something that he may have learned while seducing Ben to the dark side, admittedly, but in the book it’s implied that it was something he already knew at the time, anyway. The book really emphasizes that Snoke was a major presence throughout the events of the previous films, though, more than the film did—and that he has a vested interest in the Skywalker family lineage. |

12.23.15 | That kind of makes sense, tho it's just as believable that Kylo just killed Han just to indulge himself further in the dark side. And comparing those two pictures yep Plagueis confirmed. I mean I don't wanna be a speciest and say all of the Muuns look the same, but those are the same guy. |
zaruyache
12.23.15 | I remember reading that Plagueis and Palpatine supposedly tried to create a lifeform (of the dark side?) but were rejected by the force, and their efforts actually created a bounce-back from the force which actually resulted in Anakin's spontaneous conceiving. |
Gmork89
12.23.15 | Agree about Kylo just as likely was indulging further in the dark side, but when he asks Han if he would do anything to help him or whatever, it really would make sense. That would be an "I am your father" moment for sure. You know they are going to push for a twist thats as shocking as that. |
Gwyn.
12.23.15 | "I read somewhere that in ROTS Palpatine was going to reveal to Anakin that he manipulated the midichlorians to create him, but was taken out of the script due to time constraints."
It was pretty much implied |

I know. Pretty sure the midichlorian scene from Phantom Menace was supposed to set up that scene, but since it never actually made it into a movie, it just seems like completely pointless dialogue between Qui Gon and Anikan, which I'm gonna assume is why everyone hates midochlorians so much. |

12.24.15 | yeah she was a babe, /discussion
but actually, I was so fucking impressed with how hard Disney & Co. absolutely *nailed* the casting of the new people.
Finn is hilarious and relatable and has a surprising amount of depth.
Poe just oozes cool, and his budding bromance with Finn is adorable.
Rey is probably gonna end up being my favorite Star Wars character whose name isn't Han Solo and she's also far-and-away the best "strong female protagonist" I've ever seen in a movie
Kylo Ren is a fucking incredible, terrifying, badass, multi-layered villain
and as much as the writing is to credit for how awesome the new characters are, they would have been nothing without the spot-on casting choices |
Gwyn.
12.24.15 | Finn is easily the best new character, out of everyone he was by far the most human and I'm betting that he'll be the one who'll grow the most throughout the movies |

12.24.15 | Kylo is a believable villain because of how human his reactions are. Vader would've just choked the crap out of people if given disappointing news; Kylo actually throws a fit and destroys things, which is a much more relatable and human. |
Sinternet
12.24.15 | yeah Kylo was great because his faults were visible and human whilst with Vader he was definitely more machine than human for most of the trilogy even if that was the intended reading of his character. Also Finn and Rey are both hugely promising characters and the actors did an amazing job in making them relatable and convincing. I think Finn may be my new favourite character. |
MO
12.24.15 | "Kylo Renn is the opposite of terrifying tbh"
until he gets his complete training in the next movie, I gotta agree. but I think that was the point was to portray a flawed villain. he seems almost unsure about himself at times (when he hits himself during the end light saber scenes, etc).
but yea, he's far from terrifying |
zaruyache
12.24.15 | Kylo is the kind of man you can actually visualize beating his spouse in a fit of childish rage, which is terrifying albeit not in the way you'd expect a scifi villain to be. He's not some big scary intimidating dude, but he has weapons and he's just as willing to use them. |
zakalwe
12.24.15 | Saw it yesterday and loved it. The only slight gripe was it was more a 'remastered' version of the first one and no exploration of the Star Wars universe.

could be an explanation of her knowledge or sudden force skills |
Satellite
12.25.15 | or she's luke's daughter and the force is definitely somewhat genetic |
JWT155
12.25.15 | I'm still not sold on her being Luke's daughter. Maybe she has ties to the Skywalkers but i still picture Luke as like the celibate priest of the Force. |
Satellite
12.25.15 | it's definitely hard to imagine luke getting his fuck on, but i'm still sticking with that notion. it was established that r2 was only to re-boot upon luke's return but then he starts up right after rey arrives at the rebel base. |
Satellite
12.25.15 | i acknowledge that it also could have something to do with luke's lightsaber but that makes less sense to me.
mostly i'm glad that we have a star wars movie that's being debated among fans on its plot points rather than how fucking terrible it is. |
alienobserver
12.25.15 | "also I ship Rey and Finn so hard. every scene they had together was fucking adorable."
poe and finn> |
JWT155
12.25.15 | Ehh I see R2 booting up more because of the defeat of the First Order, which wasn't contingent on it being completed by Rey. Plus, if Rey is Luke's daughter they have to explain some sort of mother figure which I think would more easily explained through other outlets. Plus, it just seems to damn convenient. |
Satellite
12.25.15 | yeah but then why have that bit of dialogue by c-3po where he explicitly explains the conditions for r2's reboot? and the first order is clearly no more "defeated" than the empire was at the end of anh.
not saying you're wrong and i'm right, it's just that it seems like slightly more of a stretch to me. |
anarchistfish
12.25.15 | jedi mind tricks are hardly the most advanced of force powers |
anarchistfish
12.25.15 | poe was underused in the movie
"I liked Rey enough but she was too much "I can do amazing things without even knowing how I'm doing it and everyone loves me" to be a great character to me"
sorta agree |
JWT155
12.25.15 | I mean in all the movies force figures can feel the swing of momentum in the force, whether it's the death of someone or the defeat of an evil foe. I think you can plausibly say that with the defeat of killer star base that someone like Luke can feel the shift in the force towards the light, whther through the destruction of killer star base, the addition of new force users, the frustration with Kylo Ren and the disappointment in the dark side and/or the joy from the resistance winning a major battle against the first Order. |
JWT155
12.25.15 | Eh Rey fought Kylo Ren when he'd been injured 3-5 times already and she has had experience fighting and holding her own. I don't think it's a sound script but I can believe it. |
Satellite
12.25.15 | hmm that is definitely worth considering
guess we'll have to wait till ep viii |
Satellite
12.25.15 | guys luke literally uses the fucking force to blow up the death star in anh with next to no training; not sure how what rey does is that much of a stretch in comparison. |
JWT155
12.25.15 | Even her fighting with a lightsaber, she's literally running away from Kylo Ren the whole time and only overtakes him when he lowers his guard trying to recruit her to the darkside as her teacher and oh yea, has been injured a few times and has already fought Finn. |
anarchistfish
12.25.15 | "I think you can plausibly say that with the defeat of killer star base that someone like Luke can feel the shift in the force towards the light"
uhuh. how about that star system that got blown up |
JWT155
12.25.15 | Of course, Obi Wan's whole line on feeling a great disturbance in the force was when Alderaan was blown up for christ sake. |
Ignimbrite
12.25.15 | Yeah, the complaints about Rey beating Kylo don't make a lot of sense to me. she's built up as a powerful, if untrained (that we know of – I'll bet some KotOR-style mindwiping is revealed in VIII) force user. It makes perfect sense that she'd be able to beat a partially trained, out-of-practice, critically injured emotional wreck of a Vader wannabe.
A smarter Sith/Ren/whatever would've cut his or her losses after tanking a shot from the bowcaster (whose power was hyped up throughout half the movie), but Kylo was just being an overconfident dipshit. He obviously would have probably wrecked Rey on a good day, but let's face it: it was NOT a good day for him. |
Ignimbrite
12.25.15 | Speaking of Kylo Ren, this is literally the funniest fucking Twitter account I've ever seen.

zaruyache
12.25.15 | in the flashbacks Rey is like a tiny five year old child--would she actually have been old enough to be in Jedi training? That part bothers me bc how would Luke have found a child like her if he was the only one searching and this kid had only a few years in which to show some connection to the Force?
Also Rey's beating Kylo isn't hard to understand at all when you look at the choreography of the fight--she mostly just stabs at him wildly for offense and for defense just swings to block him, which isn't difficult to do. Add in Kylo's emotional instability from killing Han, the anger and pain from being shot, and the fear of fighting a new force user with unpredictable power who he also doesn't want to kill bc he wants her to be his ally. He was damaged and shaken and taking it easy on her in the first place, then got distracted and underestimated her. Nothing fancy there. |

Sinternet
12.26.15 | that's actually a pretty good analysis especially with the point that Luke pretty much picked up a lightsaber and was proficient with it in one afternoon so it's hardly surprising that Rey could do the same when she was already shown to be decent at combat beforehand with the pole thing she had.
|
Gyromania
12.26.15 | good analysis hep. i was discussing this with a friend earlier and came to the same conclusions as you. it seems like A LOT of people are upset about that fight with ren and rey, but it makes sense that she'd win based on everything you've already said.
i thought the movie was superb, maybe my 3rd overall favorite star wars movie. ren is such a well designed character, i really look forward to seeing where he goes from here. and hey, now he has a reason to keep his helmet on at all times! ;D |
Gyromania
12.26.15 | also, i think rey was tapping into the dark side of the force at the end when she was fighting ren. thoughts? |
Sinternet
12.26.15 | i feel like she was tempted by it and it made an interesting battle with one dark side character tempted by the light and one light character tempted by the dark against each other |
Keyblade
12.26.15 | finally watched it today, and it was superb. even as a standalone film, the pacing, suspense and action were top notch |
Gyromania
12.26.15 | i love the way ren moves and talks. i sort of wish he kept his mask on all movie, but it's no fault of his acting or anything. all heroes/villains lose that mystery and intimidation or 'cool' factor when they take off their mask, regardless as to who's beneath.
sinternet: i do have one theory about ren's supposed pull to the light side. i think that he was conflicted, much like anakin. but he made a definitive choice, the same as anakin when he was with mace windu and palpatine. when ren chose to strike his father down on that bridge, that was the point of no return. the point in which he chose to fully embrace the dark side and let go of his reservations about it. i do believe there was an internal struggle within him to not kill rey though, since he obviously wanted to recruit her to the dark side. if he really wanted to i'm pretty sure he could have crushed her in that moment |

Gyromania
12.26.15 | true, i suppose it's incorrect to say 'point of no return,' but it took him a long time to have his redemption. as this is a new trilogy, i feel like ren won't attain that same level of clarity in time. i think he's either going to win or die trying. this also makes sense when you consider the guy directing these new movies, and his thoughts on the ending of the original trilogy.
also agreed hard about plaguies. i just heard that theory a few days ago, and the thought never even occurred to me prior to that, but it makes a lot of sense. i think his abilities to cheat death were vaguely touched on, either that or i don't remember it well, but whereas some jedi and sith can transcend death, i think plaguies' study of it was to basically become immortal in the physical realm |
Gwyn.
12.26.15 | I'll be seeing the movie again on monday so I can get it more fresh in my mind. I pretty much agree with most of the stuff hep has said though.
Also;
"this also makes sense when you consider the guy directing these new movies"
No director will be repeating for the next movie, JJ abrams won't direct the next movie and the next director won't direct ep ix |

12.26.15 | why do jedi have to train from young to use a lightsaber?
finn was p average with a lightsaber tbh. gets put to the ground by the first non shit stormtrooper he encounters and kylo ren was barely trying |

12.26.15 | "The only thing I'm worried about is that is Plagueis survived his assassination in some Voldemort-esque Horcrux thing. Like maybe his soul being placed in a Sith Holocron or some other type of artifact. That would obviously suck."
would it be lame if it's just a case of unreliable narrator on the part of palpatine. that or him being manipulated by plagueis |
zaruyache
12.27.15 | I don't like the idea of a mind-wiped Rey because it feels too much like a lazy KOTOR ripoff. Might as well give her a Bastilla double-sided yellow saber while you're at it. |
ArsMoriendi
12.27.15 | Finally got around to watching it and wow was it great. Rey is awesome as hell. |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | I have a theory that it was Luke who split the earth and divided Rey and Kylo at the end of their fight, possibly to stop Rey from executing Kylo and moving towards the dark side, or because Kylo is secretly undercover and is still needed to execute their plan to kill Snoke ;) |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | idk i think the planet blowing up had something to do with it |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | Yeaaaaah seemed a little convenient to me.
I know i'm probably wrong. |
zaruyache
12.28.15 | If the theory that Kylo is undercover is true, he's undercover without Luke's permission, and he's guilty of awful crimes (meaning I doubt Luke would "save" him anyway). I reeaally doubt that even if Luke's magic messiah powers were great enough as to let him split a planet open, he wouldn't be able to do it from so far away in such a specific way. The Force generally lets people sense the general gist of something, not the specifics. |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | Yeah that's a good point, the Kylo being undercover part would be a stretch in the first place. The part that gets me coming back to that is the whole part with Vaders helmet and him saying something along the lines of Snoke sensing the light in him and him needing vader to show him the power of the dark side again. So that makes me think he is either asking vader for help to 'impress" snoke and make sure that he knows Kylo is loyal to the dark side, or because he needs vaders help to fool Snoke into thinking he's loyal, which seems more likely to me.
That doesn't mean he's undercover though for anyone, more likley his own personal agenda. |
Harte
12.28.15 | Snoke's face is so messed up it's hard to tell what he would have looked like before. Maybe he's Jar Jar. |

12.28.15 | there's no way 'Gollum-doppelganger' Snoke is a muun. He looks nothing like a muun in the film. |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | well snoke is plagueis so yeah he is |

12.28.15 | They probably just changed the model, gave him a nose etc. He had a nose in TFA right? |
Shiranui
12.28.15 | The chemistry between Leia and Han can now be found in her face. |
ArsMoriendi
12.28.15 | So Rey's actress looks WAY too much like Natalie Portman and Carrie Fisher to not be related to the Skywalker family in some form.
So the real question is: is she Luke's daughter or Leia and Han's? |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | like 70% certain she's luke's daughter. that line from kylo though, "han solo, the father you never had", idk what to read into that. surely kylo would've recognised his own sister? |
LoLifant
12.28.15 | han solo dies
I'm so badass |
Sinternet
12.28.15 | that further makes me believe that Rey was one of the young jedis with Kylo that Luke trained and she was the only survivor so he knows who she is idk just guessing |
ArsMoriendi
12.28.15 | Also, the lightsaber they kept saying was Luke's was blue instead of green, so I actually think it might be either Kenobi's or Anakin's old one. |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | "Kylo must know her tho since he was so pissed wen he was told that a "girl" was with the droid"
ehh how would he know it's her. i think he was just throwing a typical baddie "things-aren't-going-my-way-tantrum" |
ArsMoriendi
12.28.15 | Oh, I don't remember them explicitly saying that. That makes sense then.
They kept just calling it "Luke's" from what I remember when I know his final light saber (the one he built for himself) was green. |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | I think shes the offspring of Yoda and the Warwick Davis ewok. |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | and yeah i mean the fact the lightsaber was passed down from anakin to luke to rey and that there's all that shit about the force in his family makes me think she's luke's girl |
zaruyache
12.28.15 | I took that just to be his annoyance with the idea of yet another out-of-nowhere conspirator against him. First he finds out a Storm Trooper has betrayed them and stolen their prisoner, then he learns that the droid ran off with the Storm Trooper, then he learns that someone ELSE is helping them? Vader force choked people for much less and he didn't have anger problems. |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | Yeah I agree with zaruyache. Also hes a bit perplexed when he finds out she can use the force, and hes telling Snoke like "The girl is strong in the force" like he's surprised about it, so if he knew who she was I think he would have expected it if she's indeed Lukes daughter. |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | why would he come to that conclusion immediately though |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | "I took that just to be his annoyance with the idea of yet another out-of-nowhere conspirator against him. Gmork89
12.28.15 | He seemed to be totally caught off guard about it when he tried to interrogate her.
Probably because he knows his own strengths and she was able to stop him and get into his head, that would take a lot of power I would assume. |
dathvada321
12.28.15 | Rey pretty much has to be a Skywalker. Kathleen Kennedy explicitly stated that the main saga films are about the Skywalker family. Rey is the central character. I doubt that she is Han or Leia's because they didn't seem to recognize her at all. Plus her story is extremely similar to Anakin and Luke's. I think she is Luke's daughter. |
Shiranui
12.28.15 | "Rey..you've already met your daddy in the millenium falcon. He was your father!"
Another catchphrase fanserved. There we go. |
anarchistfish
12.28.15 | the film does make a big point of rey's absent father. like when she fixes the falcon and is so proud but han doesn't really care and her face just drops. maybe that was to demonstrate han's personality/poor fathering skills, or rey's daddy issues. or both |
dathvada321
12.28.15 | Rey is clearly the main character though, not Kylo or Luke. The story is about her. |
Gmork89
12.28.15 | Thanks for touching on the ground splitting though Hep. I'll admit it was likely just circumstance, but I suppose its possible that with starkiller wiping out the planet and its moons, and Reys powers awakening, that Luke would feel that and possibly intervene to prevent her from killing Kylo or vice-versa for some reason we don't know yet. |

12.29.15 | The humor was stupid and out of place and the guy who played fin is a bad actor. Also, its the same plot as before, they just changed the names. The rebels are now the resistance and the empire is the new order. Only cool thing about the movie was seeing the actors from the original trilogy. |
Gwyn.
12.29.15 | Just came back from seeing the movie once more;
The experience was largely ruined by the fact that I couldnt' get sits for any showing other than 3D ones and I had to use those stupid fucking dirty headache inducing glasses that were either nothing but a distraction or were just causing me a headache.
Despite that, with my memory refreshed I dare say I like it more now than before even though there's many more things I could nitpick (But they're nitpicks, so I don't really care). Finn is still easily the best new main character - The most human, the funniest, the one with the most interesting motivations, and the one who I'm most interested in seeing how he will end up. Pretty confident that he'll be a showstealer by the end.
1) Still not sure why people liked Poe as much as they did. He was amusing and I like him now more than before but he still wasn't that amazing in any particular scene, and he wasn't even in that many scenes to begin with. I do think he'll grow to become cooler though.
2) Rey and Finn's relationship is a little more nuanced than I first thought, a couple of key dialog moments were what made me realize that it wasn't as hasty as it first seemed. I'm looking forward to seeing where they'll go forward - And I'm honestly hoping they'll end up as just friends though that's probably not gonna happen.
3) Han's death is still bullshit and I hate life and the universe if it is indeed legit but I'm still not entirely convinced that it is. Chewbacca's reaction was perfect and made the moment all the more memorable.
4) There are also a lot more "this will mean something in the next few movies" moments than I first thought, but even though it makes it frustratingly difficult to analyze the film fairly due to not yet having access to the big picture, once all 3 movies are out this will probably only make them even better, so I'm fine with that for now. |

anarchistfish
12.29.15 | yeah cos retrieving the map to luke skywalker for the republic and destroying the first order's super weapon are the actions of the dark side |
Keyblade
12.29.15 | ay i did say it was a suspicion, not based on any logic. just a gut feeling |

12.29.15 | Despite all the new faces the very worst character (other than his pug ugly son) was Old Han Solo, HF was awful in this and was a relief when the space-milkman's baby stabbed him with his crucifix light saber
How happy did Chewie look knowing the old f"ck was gone and the ex storm trooper a cushion smothering away from drawing his last breath - other than that it was him and the piece of human tail all alone in the vastness of space. Hope the millennium falcon has good suspension bump de bump |

Best star wars
Han solo's death scene was kinda unfitting for such a character tho |

12.29.15 | Harrison Ford did excellent. |
anarchistfish
12.30.15 | you expected han solo to be the same guy as in the originals? ford did well as a jaded version of the character |
DoofusWainwright
12.30.15 | The plot of this film followed the broad strokes of the original trilogy storyline and just condensed it into one film...young character from a desert planet feels the force, rebels vs empire, father/son clash on a bridge, they blow up a death star weapon thing
This film was in such a rush for what ends I have no idea.
There wasn't a single new idea, no great new character or at the least some new tech idea beyond the rolling droid.
Film looked the part but Abrams first Star Trek movie was way way better |
anarchistfish
12.30.15 | kylo ren is probably the deepest character in the star wars saga yet dude |
Rowan5215
12.30.15 | oh yeah he is so deep man his pain is so real |
DoofusWainwright
12.30.15 | Kylo Ren was a laughable piece of casting imo, none of the bad dudes in this had any of the gravity/mystery of Darth Vader.
You don't take off the mask, esp not an hour into the first movie of a trilogy
The big bird out of GoT should have had her voice altered too, that plummy female accent had flat zero menace
Huge Gollum CGI projection was also not at all scary and just looked out of place.
So yeah, they royally f'cked the dark side, look like a bunch or wet blankets |
zakalwe
12.30.15 | The Mask. Now that's a comedy classic. Not the Jim Carey travesty the Cher and Eric Stoltz one where he plays the biker with elephantiasis of the face. |

12.30.15 | Well Mel Brooks did say a new Spaceballs movie was possible... I'd be OK with that casting, too. |

12.30.15 | Anyone who uses the phrase 'piece of cinema' shouldn't be given a ticket to see a film in the first place. |

12.30.15 | Spaceballs is like the lowpoint of Brook's career sans his Dracula movie I think? Still a good film, though. |

dathvada321
12.30.15 | @doofus I disagree about Kylo Ren but agree about the other two villains. Snoke is a terrible villain name and his design does not look great imo. Phasma was a joke. I also agree about the plot. They added nothing new to the series whatsoever. I mean it's one thing to mirror the OT a bit but they just shamelessly copied it. Very disappointing. And there was no world building whatsoever in this movie. Everything is just a slightly different version of something we h as very seen before. It also has the weakest 3rd act of any Star Wars movie. I honestly think ROTS is better. |

12.30.15 | Just saw this today, everything I wanted from the movie. I'm a very happy camper :3 |
zaruyache
12.30.15 | has anyone seen it in 3D? I've only seen two movies in 3D before so I'm kinda tempted to see it a 3rd time in 3D just because, but I'm wondering if the 3D feels tacked on or if it actually enhances any scenes at all. |
anarchistfish
12.30.15 | i saw it in 3d the first two times and it was alright but I'm not really a fan of 3d. the visuals of the movie are incredible though so maybe if you dig 3d you'd like it |
evilford
01.07.16 | "Also, the lightsaber they kept saying was Luke's was blue instead of green, so I actually think it might be either Kenobi's or Anakin's old one. "
yeah I think they were talking about it as Luke's "original" lightsaber, the one Obi Wan gave to Luke on Tatooine that was originally Anakin's, and that he lost down that world-sized shaft in cloud city when DV cut is hand off. I want to know how his lightsaber was recovered? somebody found it in the bowels of Cloud City and it somehow just happened to make it's way to Maz? really interested to see if they're ever gonna explain that |
evilford
01.07.16 | also I really don't understand people saying this is their favorite in the series. I mean it was great but come on have you even seen the orig trilogy? |
InFlamesWeThrash666
01.07.16 | really interested to see if they're ever gonna explain that
They will probably explain it. When Solo asked where she found it,Maz said "That's a good question but for another time". I think it's pretty clear that they saved the answer for the next episodes |
evilford
01.07.16 | guess I missed that |
Devastator
01.08.16 | The fact that some people are starting to believe that Snoke is Vader based off of his facial scars is one of the most retarted things I've heard in a while. |
evilford
01.08.16 | lol I haven't heard that |
Devastator
01.08.16 | There's a photo on twitter of behinds the scene RotJ Anikan side by side with the clearest photo of Snoke facing towards the camera. A couple of the scars match up a little and now people are freaking out that Snoke is Vader. It's ridiculous. |
Ocean of Noise
01.08.16 | I'm kind of disappointed that Snoke exists tbh. Ren would be more compelling as a lone wolf imo. |
BeyondCosby
01.08.16 | If Snoke is Vadar the rest of the series is ruined.
Overall I felt disappointed with the new movie. They do some things right (Kylo is going to end up being such a great villain, building interest to lore, solid performances by the young actors) but some things are so frustrating they ruined the movie.
The scene where they explain the new weapon is literally one of the biggest boner kills in Star Wars history. "Remember the Death Star? This one is bigger." Seriously... what kinda baby writes that shit? Also, Han's death had literally no impact because they focus on everyone else's reactions rather than give one of the biggest icons in sci-fi history a powerful moment. Why throw him into an abyss? Why not give him a moment with Rey or Chewie? It felt like Abrams was pretty much just trying to jerk off the fans with nostalgia rather than come up with something new and original while maintaining ELEMENTS of what has made the franchise so endearing. |
evilford
01.08.16 | not sure what to think about Ren. it's nice that he has a more human element to him, rather than the 100% evil textbook villian but I wasn't too interested in his character, maybe I need to see it again |
evilford
01.08.16 | ""Remember the Death Star? This one is bigger." Seriously... what kinda baby writes that shit?"
lol |
Ocean of Noise
01.08.16 | I've gotta agree with you on pretty much all points Cosby. I was disappointed with the movie overall too. They very well could have taken out the whole "Death Star v. 3" thing and it would have made no difference to the plot - not a good sign. |
Ocean of Noise
01.08.16 | Plus the lack of world-building is pretty crappy too. Everything in this movie looks like it was taken straight out of the original trilogy. The prequels were flawed in a lot of ways, but at least they were visually fresh. |
Gameofmetal

it would be pretty cheesy and forced if he didn't get thrown into an abyss
yea ren's just gonna leave him there and they'll just somehow give him time enough to chat up a main character before he dies, lol no thank you |

01.08.16 | "i saw it in 3d the first two times and it was alright but I'm not really a fan of 3d. the visuals of the movie are incredible though so maybe if you dig 3d you'd like it"
it wasn't really tailor made for 3d so the best way to see it is normally
even if it was, then normal would be better tbh. i dont usually care for 3d |
ZippaThaRippa
01.08.16 | Would have been nice if they could have recovered the body but yeah, no last words, thanks |
BeyondCosby
01.08.16 | Usually when something doesn't work the first time people don't make it bigger. That seems like some goofy super villain shit. I completely agree with the world building. We only really get to know one planet and the rest are interchangeable. Heck, they literally use the same set when Kyle is chasing Rey on that one forested planet as they do on the ice planet. |
BeyondCosby
01.08.16 | And I agree @gameofmetal and @zappa I guess I didn't necessarily want some lame last words, but Han is thrown into the abyss and then there is nothing. The only touching part of that is when Leia collapses. Compare his death to when Vader died. There was a beautiful funeral pyre scene. Luke held vigil over the burning remains of his father. That was powerful. We have someone as iconic as Vader and all we have as a memorial are two people hugging while the rest of the team celebrates? Again, I don't need a Wisconsin Cheesefest here but there should have been at least something more. Chewie finds his blaster discarded at the mouth of the bridge... Rey finds his jacket hung up in the Falcon.... |
Gmork89
01.08.16 | I re-watched the originals and noticed all of the flaws with them too, still amazing movies. |
