11.29.15 | Yes I know not having any albums in heavy rotation would help me get through more stuff but I don't really care tbh
Also pointless list I know but whatever. |
DoofusWainwright
11.29.15 | no, don't change that, you should have a couple of albums at any one time that take up 75-90% of your listening. That's natural.
The last three weeks I've listened to the new Oneohtrix Point Never and the new George Clanton about 20-30 times each without thinking about it, they were just what I wanted to hear almost non stop. That's how you know you really like an album that extra little bit. |
EvoHavok
11.29.15 | Definitely having the "too much music" moments all too often. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | I totally agree there Doof. Sometimes I think "I could be checking our x or y instead", but I find it far more valuable to really appreciate the great ones, even if it means delaying finding more of them. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | There's also the "I want to hear all of this artist's stuff but I also what to get into so many other artists" struggle. |
altertide0
11.29.15 | just listen how you feel like, if repeated listens give you pleasure then by all means don't stop. Pleasure is good. |

11.29.15 | lol so what, he should die? he will don't you worry 'bout that |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | I can assure you that I will die one day |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | No such thing as too much music. If you actually appreciate what you're listening to, then you don't have to gorge on everything that's out. 2015 albums don't have to be heard in 2015. Some can wait till 2020 and beyond. It's the same as finding an old 70s record you heard about and gave it a spin. Just listen to music and have fun. |
treeqt.
11.29.15 | if you don't listen to an album the year it's released you have to wait for at least two centuries before you can listen to it this is common knowledge |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | Well duh why are we even discussing that, of course it's common knowledge. |

11.29.15 | accurate |

11.29.15 | how will you survive |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | I just erased my iTunes (over 4k albums) and I am rebuilding it by completely organizing/labeling everything and even adding lyrics to files, it helps me to really connect with what I'm listening to. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | There is a certain satisfaction that comes with listening to something just after it is released, before a general opinion about it can be established. |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | There is some truth to that but doesn't have to applied to everything you want to listen to. |
someguest
11.29.15 | I would ask that you stop worrying about such trivial bullpucky. |
theBoneyKing
11.29.15 | Ok I wasn't worrying about anything, if anything it is great to feel like there is too much music because it means I'll never run out. |
KrazyKris
11.29.15 | "I can assure you that I will die one day"
Don't say that. Who knows, maybe some scientist will make us live forever soon enough.
Also definitely know that "too much music" thing, especially since I'm a slow listener, so to say. I'll probably never listen to hundreds of new records every year like quite a few people on sputnik do, so something like that is kind of inevitable. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.29.15 | "which is growing what seems like 100 times faster than it is shrinking. Do you ever have moments like that?"

11.29.15 | On average, I probably consume 100 records and 10 movies a month. |
Pennywise_M
11.29.15 | "Yes I know not having any albums in heavy rotation would help me get through more stuff but I don't really care tbh"
Agreed with Doofus hard. It happens a lot with me too, so many times just find myself overwhelmed by how much i have to listen to and how much time i have to do so. And almost as he said, i'll often also have albums that take 50%+ of my daily listens when i don't have as much time, or simply am intrigued or really enjoying an album. I like to go through most albums at least twice if i'll dismiss them, if i like them, ill go through about 5-10 listens in one week. Depends a lot though. Just take your time, if thats the way you enjoy the most! |
someguest
11.29.15 | Don't try and compete with Adele, salesman. You won't win. |
Pennywise_M
11.29.15 | "man, I really should explore X genre"
Also this, hard. |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | @Moreira: Why make your listening habits a task list? Just write down recommendations to yourself later and you'll listen to it when you're ready to. If you go down a list of "Shit to Listen to" you're going in like a teacher having to read 100 essays. It's not a lot of fun. |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | Idk I used to be like you but then music became a bore to me and I didn't like that. Just had to rewire the way I consumed music. |
Pennywise_M
11.29.15 | Well that's still what i do, though. I don't force myself to keep a schedule, i often will go over a week without even checking a new album, just for the sake of jamming other stuff. I do try to finish discographys i like first, if i like a band. Anyway it's more of a "priority list", not a task list. I have a bunch of stuff written down from genres i dont listen to as much, and if that has to sit for a whole year or 2, it will. Or sometimes i just feel like checking a random band that wasn't in my plans cus i really got into them by giving an EP or LP a chance, or just a couple singles wtv. Point is, it's not as mechanical as you may have grasped from what i said. It's not mechanical at all |
LotusFlower
11.29.15 | i just listen to whatever looks promising in that instance, it makes listening a little more enjoyable than having "to listen" lists. |
Deathconscious
11.29.15 | there isnt even enough time in life to enjoy all the albums you already know you like. this depresses me a bit. reminds me of the sample at the beginning of Lost from Neurosis's Enemy of the Sun. |
deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | I think you're just explaining it very mechanically, and it's hard for to see it as an organic process. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.29.15 | i just listen to music. |
Pennywise_M
11.29.15 | One example: I've picked up Envy, loved their 2001 album. Listened so hard for weeks, months even. Then moved on to their discog, chronologically in this case (it's kinda random, in this case i just felt i would like a lot of their stuff, so i chose to do it in a more organized way i guess). I ended up liking their albums but for whatever reason, didn't yet listen to all of their stuff. Maybe it just didn't grab me enough after a while, maybe LOTS of bands i like released new stuff and i wanted to check that first. Anyway, a few months later, came back, jammed some of their older stuff, now im picking up again and i have only their 2015 album left to listen to, and form an actual opinion on the one before this year's album. Comes and goes, sometimes it sits in the corner for a while and whenever im feeling it, i finish it. Just try to keep focused on stuff i like for obvious reasons, don't wanna miss out on bands that show me a lot of promise. Sorry just wanted to paint a better picture |

deathofasalesman
11.29.15 | I do the same, but that's just something I do once in a while. Music is an everflowing stream (literally nowadays) and I just follow my own current.

Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | "have u had the matcha green tea or the creme brule kit kats?"
the matcha green tea yea, i liked them and kinda liked the rest of the green tea variations, tried like 4-5 of them lol. 5-6/10 range. Never had the chance to try the creme burle. Figure they're pretty good, hm? |
someguest
11.30.15 | nah just callin' that guy out saying us naming corporate brands despises him

11.30.15 | good talking to you too, potsy |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.30.15 | always |
Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | Oh, i bought a bag of the cheesecake ones and they can also be baked, so i did bake them and it didn't do nearly as much difference as i thought it would. Also baked the pumpkin ones, to the same outcome. Btw the pumpkin ones are fucking amazing, my favs. Yeah the tea ones are a cool experience, just pretty weird at first. My gf was always saying they taste like fish and if u try to believe that, it sounds spot on for a second lol |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | @Boney: Pretty sweet choice. 50 records is more than average so you don't have to say "only." Your listening habits are valid and will only continue to grow as long as you keep your head in the music game.
@someguest: You really need to brush up on your argumentative skills before trying to pose yourself as the beacon of righteousness. |
Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | I've jammed like 40- albums from this year. Agreed with salesman. Probably will have jammed about twice as many 2015 albums one year from now, anyway. |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | I listened to more new releases last year than any other year (including this one), sometimes it varies on what happens in your real life how much music you can attain. This year has been a year of progressive change and fruitful knowledge in my real life but nothing radical when it comes to music listening habits. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.30.15 | gotta try the pumpkin ones, yum |
Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | Hmm i see... interesting how that didn't even cross my mind. I download the stuff i listen to, only buy some of my favorite albums. And i only do it for collecting purposes, and helping the band or better yet, out of respect for them (since they hardly get any moolah for cds anyway). I literally never listen to music on cd tbh. It's not practical at all for me |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | Get a fan account on Bandcamp. The site takes like 10% of what you donate but that's because they don't run ads on their website and need to pay for their servers. But it's still the closest thing to handing artists/record labels cash directly. |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | Also whatever you pay money for shows up on your account so you get to show off all the music you support! |
Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | Hmm only have an account for my project. Well i don't think you can find most stuff on bandcamp tbh. Am i wrong?
I like it this way. I also attend a bunch of shows per year, and i also buy from the bands i like there, sometimes just to help really. I mean i have like 20 something merch shirts, its not like i need more these days. Thats shirts, not counting all the other apparel, and maybe a couple cd's i've bought at shows. |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | Don't use it as your primary source of music, of course. Just something to add to what you already do, you know? Also, if you already bought music before without an account it automatically adds those to your collection. Bandcamp smart af. |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | I should be a salesman! Hope I don't die. |

Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | Oh i do that already! I've bought a bunch of albums on bandcamp mate, just don't use it frequently since well, it truly is limited. It mostly has unsigned bands, i believe. But indeed i've gotten lots of stuff from bandcamp, whenever i like something that i can find on bandcamp, mostly if it's just really on bandcamp, i'll buy it chill. Even if i could get it for free sometimes |
deathofasalesman
11.30.15 | As an artist on Bandcamp, people giving money for my music when I set as name-your-price really means something. And I think that's a feeling any artist has in that circumstance. It's tough for me to put $0 nowadays. But I'm also broke so I have to be reasonable sometimes. |
Pennywise_M
11.30.15 | That was like poetry man, haha. Guess what, just headed up to the mail and saw that someone dropped 5€ over our new EP a couple days ago. Most we ever got in one transaction from bandcamp! From anywhere really. Yeah it is a great feeling, hence why sometimes, when i have faith in a band and really like their work or the direction of their music, i'll drop a couple bucks myself. Amen bandcamp too |

11.30.15 | I have a list of albums I want to get to but I don't strictly use that list, if I want to listen to something I'll listen to it, I've made myself many listen ending schedules in the past but I find they only do more bad than good and put you off listening to new stuff |
