11.20.15 | pink floyd obviously, the beatles suck |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | To answer the question I gotta say that both bands have been my all-time favorite in one point of my life, maybe The Beatles were my absolute favorite band from childhood to my twentys, but as I began to grow older the order switched, that's why in this moment Pink Floyd is my favorite band. In this point of my life I feel more identified with Floyd. |
evilford
11.20.15 | floyd best band ever made |
bagof4grapes
11.20.15 | Definitely the beatles. I've never liked pink floyd, wheras the beatles are a magnificent band |
guitarded_chuck
11.20.15 | love the beatles but pink floyd are the best band of all time |
zakalwe
11.20.15 | Floyd melted my mind in my 20s.
The Beatles sent me stellar in me teens, they still do.
Beatles. |
Spacesh1p
11.20.15 | Beatles for me but I do love Floyd and spent like a year of high school listening to nothing but Floyd.
Interesting to see a few people say they liked the Beatles when they were younger then picked up more Floyd. For me it was the other way around. |
altertide0
11.20.15 | pink floyd |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | Yeah Zak that's exactly why I'm tending to pick Floyd because they've been melting my mind during my 20's, though I really love The Beatles and go back crawling every once in a while to them. |
adr
11.20.15 | Floyd are far more diverse and interesting, they covered much more genres from Psychedelic/Experimental rock to prog, art rock and fucking rock opera. I mean i like The Beatles, but they pretty much were making the same album from the start with few exceptions like Sgt.pepper and Let It Be. Great band ofc, but yea Floyd > |
rockandmetaljunkie
11.20.15 | there's no dilemma here, pink Floyd of course
the beatles suck [2] |
guitarded_chuck
11.20.15 | i thought the beatles sucked for a long time but then one day i myself stopped sucking |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | Neither would make my top 30 bands so for me not the most sacred of cows, the Beatles have undoubtedly had the greater influence on music as a whole so I guess they'd edge it 'objectively' |
Archael
11.20.15 | the beatles |
zakalwe
11.20.15 | So many 'moments' with both bands.
Floyd - comfortably numb, when Darkside clicked, The first time I heard WYWH.
One of my best musical moments ever though was on a summers evening as a young teen walking back from a mates house and there was a garden party going on at a corner house. VW camper parked outside, funny smells wafting over the fence and Strawberry Fields was playing. I stood transfixed, fucking mind blowing doesn't do it justice.
Soon after I got the Blue album and it was a case of Nirvana? Pffft.
|
CamiloG
11.20.15 | That sounds like the perfect garden party, man! I pictured all the scene in my head. |
Friday13th
11.20.15 | The Beatles by a hair. |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | Zak I wish my first encounters with the bands had been like that, my parents were Zeppelin, Bowie and Stones fans, so my introductions to both bands were at school.
We were actually taught about the Beatles in music class and when you're itching to spin 'Demanufacture' at full volume and someone's forcing you to watch 'Yellow Submarine' as a 15 year old you just think 'museum relic, walob'. The Beatles films definitely didn't help their cause for me at that age lol
With 'Darkside of the Moon' all I knew was our depressive science teachers would go out of class for a sly cigarette and play it in their office, so again my first impressions were 'music for stuffy sad old bearded professors'.
Later when I got more into music I'd loan out albums from both from the local Library to max my limit alongside stuff like Bad Religion as a sort of educational exercise but I've got to be honest its only now that I genuinely listen to either band for pleasure, and a lot of their output I still put in the 'historical interest' bracket |
guitarded_chuck
11.20.15 | you should be able to listen to them objectively at this point |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | "Neither would make my top 30 bands so for me not the most sacred of cows"
Doof, then which are your top 2 sacred cows? |
zakalwe
11.20.15 | I'm with ya doof dude. For me Floyd was definitely for the uncool as fuck 'Hard Rock Cafe' dads and bellend stoners. I was left scratching me head to a lot of it, I only appreciated them when I was older.
What would I have thought of the Beatles if I was 'taught' about them? I shudder to think. |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | Radiohead (grew up with them) and maybe Bowie I guess.
If it's got to be two pre 80's acts then Bowie and Led Zeppelin.
|
guitarded_chuck
11.20.15 | why let social circumstances dictate what music your prefer
this boggles my mind, sad really |
SharkTooth
11.20.15 | The Beatles just out of sheer influence and diversity |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | I have yet to inmerse myself into Bowie as I've been a little bit lazy to study his enormous discography, I've heard a couple of records though, but not with the attention they deserve. |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | "why let social circumstances dictate what music your prefer"
Agreed, though social circumstances often affect music and even bands, I do think that you either like something or not, no matter what's happening outside or what kind of people listens to it. |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | guitarded - is that a reply to me? You can't really chastise a rock and metal loving 15 year old, I didn't over analyse stuff at that age, I was listening to stuff like Tool, Faith No More, Sepultura and Fear Factory and then you're told to sit down and watch Yellow Submarine. It was an honest gut response.
I haven't let my first impression stick because I've since listened to roughly 50% of both band's discographies, I mean I have 'Animals' rated a 5 and 'Revolver' at a 4 so I don't know what you're getting at |
MO
11.20.15 | saying the beatles suck is fucking laughable holy shit |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | I was just giving my opinion to guitarded's statement, wasn't referring to your personal experience at all Doof.
Saying the beatles suck is fucking laughable holy shit [2] |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | Probably 75% of all music out there has been influenced in some way by The Beatles so saying they 'suck' is almost always misguided |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | ^Agreed.
Seems we have a draw so far... |
wtferrothorn
11.20.15 | Beatles |
BigLeach65
11.20.15 | Floyd all the way, really like the beatles too and they were incredibly influential but pink floyd is my favorite band of all time. |
ArsMoriendi
11.20.15 | The Beatles
Pink Floyd is great but I'm in the mood for The Beatles far more often. |
ncguitar
11.20.15 | BEETHOVEN >>>>> THE BEETLES AND FLOYD BECAUSE INFLUENCES
AND CAVEMAN MUSIC >>>>>>> SLAYER BECAUSE CAVEMAN INFLUENCED SLAYER
AND GOSPEL > EL-P
btw I choose floyd; the beatles might have influenced 90% of my library but they still sound vapid to me |
Rawmeeth38
11.20.15 | Pink Floyd
Best band ever |
DoofusWainwright
11.20.15 | Ncguitar - that argument was just countering the 'they totally suck' comments, no ones saying they're beyond criticism and everyone has to love them due to being influential |
Snowdog808
11.20.15 | Pink Floyd |
CamiloG
11.20.15 | So far things are like this:
Pink Floyd: 11 votes
The Beatles: 9 votes |

11.20.15 | Very close but I'll go with The Beatles. |
KingdomOfTyrant
11.20.15 | pink floyd ofc. |

11.20.15 | Isn't much of a question for me: Pink Floyd! |
zakalwe
11.20.15 | One of my first ever comments on this site was something along the lines of no Beatles no Floyd.
People laughed. Read it and weep tweens.

11.20.15 | I've wanted to like pink floyd for the longest time, but the fans just continue to keep me away. In high school I was in an after school music program (school of rock) and every one of my friends there would circle jerk over pink floyd. I've listened to some of their albums and somewhat enjoyed it, but i only think of my friends when i hear about the band and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
TL;DR beatles are better, but only by a little |
TheMagicalBlender
11.20.15 | Pink Floyd easily, but I still love The Beatles.
|
evilford
11.20.15 | it's pretty dumb to stay away from a band because of their fans. personally I don't even see a real problem w/ floyd fans in general. one of my favorite bands is Tool and we all know about their fanbase |
Totengott
11.20.15 | Pink Floyd ofcourse. |
Riviere
11.21.15 | Floyd |

11.21.15 | Beatles are great but Floyd transcends everything |

11.21.15 | love me some Beatles.......but Floyd is the easy decision |
deathschool
11.21.15 | I appreciate The Beatles and all that shit you're obliged to say, but they don't do that much for me. Pink Floyd on the other hand, well.
Floyd all the way, no stops. |
YetAnotherBrick
11.21.15 | def The Beatles |
someguest
11.21.15 | The Beatles have never made me question my existence. Floyd does consistently.
There's your answer. |
YetAnotherBrick
11.21.15 | you need to listen to Revolver more man |
Rowan5215
11.21.15 | Did I already post in this thread? If not dropping in to say easily floyd, bye |

11.21.15 | This is an intervention, DeadGuy. We knew that you'd have to post something about Floyd/Beatles trivia if you saw this thread. It was the only way we knew to get you here. |

11.21.15 | The Beatles are good.
Pink Floyd is one of the best ever.
Picking Floyd here is a stupefyingly simple answer. |
Muisc4Life26
11.22.15 | i would say the Beatles, overall i say Pink Floyd is more talented but i'm more of a Beatles fan than a Pink Floyd fan. |
theNateman
11.22.15 | Definitely the beatles. I've never liked pink floyd, whereas the beatles are a magnificent band [10000] |
wwf
11.22.15 | The Beatles are far more consistent and have more incredible albums and were more influential and more inventive
fight me nerds |

11.22.15 | please keep the hipsters away from The Beatles, Every building on this planet is infested with them. |
