at this point in time people use EDM to describe pretty much any new electronic music which is wrong
EDM is most often used to refer to newer styles of electronic music or those which have been popular in the last few years, but a good look at what constitutes EDM is whatever is headlining Tomorrowland. Mainly consisting of electro house/progressive house/trap/brostep/deep house/future house/hardstyle. But anyway EDM wasn't even a label until dance culture hit America.
music predominately played at slash is popular in mainstream modern club settings. which is many different genres of generally shit music that people that are somewhat stupid as fuck call EDM.
"rofl edm isnt a genre either u utter pedestrian. its a fucking buzz-word."
Whatever, I know next to nothing about electronic music, I've just seen people use EDM in reference to a certain style quite a bit so descritptor or genre who really cares it gets the point across.
"it doesn't. its just trending club music."
Right so he can't use dance music to refer to music people predominantly dance to, but you can use 'club music' to the same effect and it's all good.
