09.10.15 | I absolutely love Martyrs, even though some claim it to be just torture porn. I personally think that it is much more than that. It disturbed me, but it honestly emotionally effected me more than most horror films that I have seen, which is why it is among my favorites. I also think that it is one of the smartest, even though it is overly brutal.
That being said, I think Salo is the most disturbing horror film that I have mostly seen. I have seen A Serbian Film, Frontiers, Martyrs, Cannibal Holocaust, etc, but for some reason I couldn't make it through Salo. I know that it is in the Criterion collection, but for some reason that repulsed me so much that I couldn't even make it through the entire movie. |

09.10.15 | I love oscar-baity stuff and I liked the performances. And that it gave the illusion of all being filmed in one shot. But idk, hype really killed it for me or something. It wasnt anything special. |

09.10.15 | I've heard all kinds of things about a serbian film but is it actually a good movie (in it's genre ofc)? I just don't know if i want to watch a movie were pedophelia and necrophelia are a source of entertainment rather than a serious subject. |
skeames1214
09.10.15 | Yeah 2001 is pretty undeniable. Closest thing to fine art movies have achieved. Not that movies need to be fine art, but it's certainly not a bad thing. I cannot believe how well that movie has held up visually. |

09.10.15 | i mean the super gory and outright disturbing films are pretentious. certainly not it follows. that felt genuine as fuck. Creepy as shit dude, i never get bugged by movie and that one is staying with me. Babadook too, that had a unique twist on horror. Not as disturbing as it was disorienting though.
But as far as the gory, less story driven movies go, the only one off the top of my head that i thought was great is Begotten |
skeames1214

but that movie isnt just smut like all the other movies its grouped with. It has redeeming qualities. but tbh its not a movie id watch again, mostly because its just so morbid and effects your psyche. for 'disturbing movies' its good |
brainmelter
09.10.15 | I watched the little mermaid so many times when I was a toddler i broke the vhs

skeames1214
09.10.15 | yeah. the scene where it attacked them at the beach was pretty laughable imo. |
oWhoadYo
09.10.15 | rape scene didnt really bother me. It was a bit fucked but, weve all seen that in movies. The most disturbing parts without a doubt for me was when they saw where the guy was living (cant remember his name). It was that abandoned house with bottles on the windows so he can hear an intruder. Nothing was in the house. Like imagine living like that, fuck.... so nerve-wracking. and the scene where we first see "it". the guy trying to explain whats happening as it just slowly moves in. terrifying |

oWhoadYo
09.10.15 | when i see movies deemed as the scariest and whatnot, they really have no effect on me. What fucks me up are the ideas, ya know? Like putting yourself into a situation mentally. Can the film allow you to think abstractly without making it to obvious? Blood and shit doesnt really scare me because when you get your head chopped off, you bleed. When you fall off a building, you fall. If you change that up, its terrifying. The unknown and unexpected was what horror was founded upon and it has really lost that. Like, how can anyone find a slasher flick scary? that's corny to me. You know what movie was disturbing on a myriad levels? Eraserhead |

And damn i gotta watch gummo then
but one more closing statement on it follows: The imagery in that film was breathtaking for me and so relevant. All those run down buildings and homes, overcast skies. like fuck, thats where i live. Notice how these kids never really did anything in the film? it represents living in a shithole. kids have nothing to do in places like that but to do drugs and have sex. STDs breed like that and so do unplanned pregnancies. Thats how i grew up, i saw it everyday. It's a real problem. You could also get into that this movie was mocking scare tactics to prevent kids from having sex too. I dont know man, the movie had so many layers but the director hid them just enough to make them not ham-fisted shoving obvious shit down your throat (gravity). Not even as a horror film, it was a near flawless exercise in film making, in my opinion. |
skeames1214

09.10.15 | I was also stoned off my ass while watching it so i dont know if i forced these thoughts or my mind was opened to them lol but regardless. It was amazing to me. just the whole approach on STDs was unique ya know? take something we all know but dont really understand or really respect enough to fear, and turn it into "it", something that will kill you. You cant get rid of it, but you can pass it on. That shit stays with you for life. and STDs can kill you. Look at AIDS man. Thats a problem around wherre i live |

In my eyes the most disturbing movies aren't movies, they're documentries called Earthlings and Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father. These WILL fuck you up. |

09.10.15 | Yea, sure. Serial Killers motivations and general psychology is fascinating, and watching movies about such things are also fascinating. Such as Silence of the Lambs. Not movies depicting several graphic scenes of rape, where no subject is taboo, and people being forced to do terribly heinous and inhumane things. That's not "fascinating," no one's sitting in front of their tv screen watching this shit with The Thinker pose, tapping their nose with their finger, spoutin' out "hmms" and "ahhhs!" as if stark realizations have occurred... Hence why said films have been banned in multiple countries. |

09.10.15 | oh man i forgot! Ex Machina had a couple scenes that messed me up. When the kid slit his wrist to see if he was human and when the robot creator guy got stabbed by the asian robot. So fucked up |
Insurrection
09.10.15 | requiem for a dream is a great one, totally forgot. first time i saw that it was like midnight and the end left me speechless. saw it again the following night, same effect
ex machina wasnt very disturbing for me but it is probably the best movie ive seen so far this year |
Insurrection
09.10.15 | i told you that in confidence sachiko
but tbh dillinger shows have had the craziest pits and wall of deaths ive seen |
Psynuts
09.10.15 | is a beatdown moshpit just a slowed down version of a normal one? |
Psynuts
09.10.15 | that sounds fairly disturbing tbh |

09.11.15 | All this serial killer talk reminded me of an Australian movie called Snowtown about a real serial killer, pretty messed up story |

09.11.15 | 2001 isnt a movie for anyone, if youre paying attention then theres always something happening and its not boring at all. if youre just waiting for something to happen while paying to attention to the movie then youre in for a snoozefest |
Insurrection
09.11.15 | 2001 is awesome if only for the music |
ScuroFantasma
09.12.15 | Agreed with Shuyin, there's so much going on in that movie. I mean the opening scene with the apes goes for a little too long imo but otherwise the movie is very well-paced. |

09.12.15 | Fando y Lis.
My least favorite Jodorowsky flick by a good margin. All of his films have some uncomfortable moments, among other things, but Fando y Lis had some seriously disgusting, cringe-worthy segments. I don't think it's a great introduction to his work, however. El Topo, Santa Sangre or Holy Mountain are also twisted but much more enjoyable films (and visually way more impressive as well). |

09.12.15 | fuck yeah a Jodorowsky fan
el topo is amazing |
Deathconscious
09.12.15 | Nightcrawler. not the most disturbing movie ive ever seen but its pretty fucked up. not because of gore or rape or anything like that, but simply because Gyllenhaal's character is so off-putting. he is the true definition of a sociopath. cold and lacking any empathy. people are objects to him. |
brainmelter
09.12.15 | 3 guys 1 hammer is brutz, but have you seen two guys one jar? lol
salo is pretty poo, its not good but I guess its an experience |

09.12.15 | that was a good movie but it was not disturbing and doesnt fit in with this list |

09.12.15 | tbh people who actually enjoy watching shit like 3 guys 1 hammer deserve to be shot |
brainmelter
09.12.15 | I've never found ichi the killer disturbing really, it's pretty fun. out of all of Takashi Miikes movies its prob the least 'disturbing' |

09.12.15 | Cannibal Holocaust is pretty disturbing if you have a soul

Irreversible. great film. |

09.12.15 | nightcrawler is pretty awesome all thanks to Gylenhals performance but I didnt think it was disturbing at all. he was just a super creepy socio |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.12.15 | yeah |
brainmelter
09.12.15 | honestly animal deaths aside, that end gang rape and destruction of the group is so fucked up. they kinda deserved it but man. just how its all filmed badly and looks all gritty and dirty with 80s synth in the background evokes weird feels |
Shuyin
09.12.15 | if you want disturbing horror, then watch Kairo. the original japanese movie and not some retarded hollywood remake

Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.12.15 | the animal deaths aren't disturbing, they were killed in a basic hunter gatherer style. thats how you kill and eat shit. whats disturbing is that idiots who eat factory-farm meat were disturbed and offended by animals being killed in a way that is infinitely more humane than the way the food they actually eat is.
but i agree about the rest of that immensely.
and even just like little shots like the scene where the indigenous people are literally sawing the dudes chest open with a blunt axe is just like wow what the fuck |
brainmelter
09.12.15 | yeah I expected to be more alarmed by the animal deaths but I wasnt. EXCEPT FOR THE BABY PIG THAT GETS SHOT :c
I liked the practical effect for the pole through the ass out of the mouth, looks fuckn crazy. |

09.12.15 | yeah, wild movie. fuck white ppl and stuff. |

09.12.15 | yeah, have you ever seen footage of how the animals are treated/killed in those factories? more disturbing than anything on here. |

09.12.15 | Yesss Irreversible that was it. It was an experience, I'll give it that, and it was well-made. I would probably not watch it again though, once is enough. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
09.12.15 | yep once is more than enough. his other movies are awesome too, i strongly recommend Enter the Void and I Stand Alone |
JokineAugustus
09.12.15 | Mysterious Skin was kinda disturbing in parts, oh and definitely Videodrome, The Fly, and other Cronenberg films. |
JokineAugustus
09.12.15 | And I'll have to rewatch it, but I think threads was pretty disturbing if I remember correctly, oh and Come and See. |

Excellent film though, I love it. Gyllenhaal is such a great actor, and his portrayal of that guy was superb. Plus I could actually see someone being like that, just cold and opportunistic to an extreme.
"the animal deaths aren't disturbing, they were killed in a basic hunter gatherer style. thats how you kill and eat shit. whats disturbing is that idiots who eat factory-farm meat were disturbed and offended by animals being killed in a way that is infinitely more humane than the way the food they actually eat is."

09.13.15 | Ya know what, grave of the fireflies is pretty disturbing, especially since it's based on someone's actual story. The scene where he's starving to death in the terminal is pretty affecting. |
Rice303
09.13.15 | I could never watch the scene of the young girl starving in Grave Of The Fireflies. The scene completely wrecked me emotionally |
Sinternet
09.13.15 | I've never met someone who hasn't cried first time watching it. It's exceptionally well-done and it just feels so human even without the fact it's based on a true story. |

09.15.15 | i just watched martyrs. i feel like the only reason it got attention is because it actually makes violence seem really intense and upsetting but like once u look beyond that its pretty whatevr |

skeames1214
09.15.15 | I KNEW IT. def seems like your type of movie. its great.
have you seen the guest? |
Kman418
09.15.15 | like im pretty sure i like that movie waaaayyyyy more than i should but something about it just worked perfectly for me.
actually sam since u have read over my screenplay i was really heavily influenced by blue ruin on that, mainly just in how it communicates so much with so little dialogue and it really says way more than it would have if some of those scenes were more dialogue oriented |
Kman418
09.15.15 | the guest is really good too. you're next and a horrible way to die are my fav from adam wingard though |
skeames1214
09.15.15 | blue ruin is a good movie to take some cues from. it's a really good action movie made on a very limited budget with smart dialogue. if you're gonna try to write a screenplay that someone will direct or direct a movie yourself its a good template to use. |
Flugmorph
09.15.15 | a serbian film is not that bad honestly. watched it with my grandma |
