Masochist's Favorite Moments In Music, Vol. II
I made the first part of this list over a year ago, and kept trying to do a follow-up to it. Suppose now's as good a time as any ;-). Just like last time--25 moments, one moment per band, done in album format. If you have a favorite moment in music that isn't on here, take a look at the first list to see if it's on there (that would at least explain the random absence of "New Noise" ;-)...). |
1 | | AFI Paper Airplanes (Makeshift Wings)
(2:41 - 3:10) - The second half of the bridge |
2 | | Alter Bridge Metalingus
(3:04 - 3:22) - The second half of the bridge, starting at the line "Could you set me free!?" |
3 | | Atmosphere Trying To Find A Balance
(0:24 - 0:58) - From the line "Get real, they tell me..." to "...where did all the passion go?;" (1:09 - 1:20) - The last part of the first verse (actually, the whole first half of the song is amazing, but especially these parts) |
4 | | Bad Religion I Want To Conquer The World
(Beginning - 0:13) - One of the best opening riffs ever in punk rock; (0:46 - 1:04) - The first time the chorus is song |
5 | | The Beatles Hey Jude
(3:02 - End) - As cliche as it is to put this part of this song on this list, I can't deny its grandeur. |
6 | | Blindside Sleepwalking
(2:55 - 3:16) - The bridge from the line "One last goodbye: goodbye..." until the chorus comes back in again |
7 | | Days Away Gravity
(2:41 - End) - The ending of this song is so beautiful! |
8 | | Dream Theater Scene Three, Part II: Fatal Tragedy
(2:06 - 2:25) - That little interlude with the guitar/organ interplay, up until the singing comes back in. I figuratively shat myself upon first listen. |
9 | | Escape The Fate The Guillotine
(3:12 - End) - Heaviest moment I've ever heard from this band (or almost any band on Epitaph Records) |
10 | | Fair To Midland The Wife, The Kids, and the White Picket Fence
(2:15 - 2:47) - The bridge, and that glass-shattering crescendo |
11 | | Guster All The Way Up To Heaven
(3:12 - End) - Falsetto harmonizing has never been done so well... |
12 | | Haiku d'Etat Non Compos Mentis
(3:21 - 3:35) - From the line "Why you talk that crazy talk?..." until the end of the verse. Some of my favorite lyrics to come from a rap group |
13 | | He Is Legend China White
(2:06 - 3:26) - The bridge (with the soft, echoing guitars) all the way up until the line "...but I believe in you!;" (3:46 - End) - "I AM YOUR GARDENER!" |
14 | | King Crimson Epitaph
(3:45 - 4:06) - The crescendo--gives me chills every time! |
15 | | Muse Knights of Cydonia
(3:51 - 4:32) - The second part of the bridge, right where the guitar triplets come in, and including the transition to the heavier guitars. It's very similar to a certain part of "Bohemian Rhapsody," and that moment made it on the first list. |
16 | | Nas Life's A Bitch
(2:40 - End) - The jazzy outro |
17 | | Nine Inch Nails March of the Pigs
(1:17 - 1:32) - "Now doesn't it make you feel better?" |
18 | | Norma Jean Disconnecktie: The Faithful Vampire
(3:55 - 7:55) - The ENTIRE middle part of that song--so epic! |
19 | | The Pillows Advice
(Beginning - 0:22) - The heavy distorted intro; immediately recognizable to any fan of Fooly Cooly. |
20 | | Pink Floyd Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts 1-5
(4:00 - 4:37) - The first time the guitar comes in with those four notes up until the drums start to come in |
21 | | System of a Down Soldier Side
(2:32 - End) - From "Welcome to the soldier side..." to the end; easily one of the best moments from Hypnotize |
22 | | Sublime What I Got
(0:41 - 0:51) - Playin' the guitar like a muthafuckin' riot, with a little whistling in there, too... |
23 | | Third Eye Blind Graduate
(Beginning - 0:12) - One of the best intros of the 90's, so simple yet so effective |
24 | | Thrice Daedalus
(4:08 - 5:07) - Daedalus screaming at the gods; the closest I've come to crying because of a song in a LONG time |
25 | | Underoath Returning Empty Handed
(2:38 - 3:00) - The heavier second half of the bridge |
