| Summer Releases
This summer features a good number of new releases from a lot of awesome bands, and a lot that happen to throw me right back to high school. It's great to hear bands I loved back then (objectivity be damned) continuing their output, even after some massive gaps in between releases. List is my most anticipated and some digs from this year. I Am Alive In Everything I Touch
I waited patiently for this, and damn I'm glad it came through. The two singles stand as highlights and are joined by cuts like "Late on 6th." Silverstein has a comfortably established sound, but they've never sounded short of passion for what they create, and this new release is no exception.

Coward
After a brief hiatus followed by a reconciliation of the best incarnation of the band's lineup and a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign, Coward is a product delivered to Haste the Day fans with love, and the album is exactly what we all wanted. Massive vocals courtesy of original vocalist Jimmy Ryan and his longtime replacement Stephen Keech, towering and sludgy post-metal riffs, and some unexpected veering into post rock and shoegaze territory here and there. Album is an absolute triumph.

1000 Palms
While not as immediate and catchy as Pythons, the new Surfer Blood serves up a surfy slab of rock n' roll that goes immaculately with a sun-drenched afternoon. I'm sure a few songs will find a place on my summer playlist, especially the likes of "Island."

Dead Trees
Album is the least annoying Spencer Sotelo has ever sounded, and to me, that's a credit in itself. Dead Trees delivers exactly what I want from a band like From First to Last, down to the cheesy lyricism and cliched breakdowns. In the end, the album is a fun and mindless metalcore romp down memory lane for those who loved the band in high school, and the bonus tracks are a nice addition.

You Were Never Alone
This one saddens me. There are definitely sparks of ingenuity on "Thrash," and "The Less You Say" proves they don't need to be heavy to be intriguing, but most of the album is tepid and uninteresting, unfortunately recalling the rut the band found themselves in when they released I'm Only a Man. Sure, they vocal harmonies are pretty, but even the band sounds bored.

Coma Ecliptic
I dug the single, and the band's promise that the album will be "85% clean vocals" has me intrigued, albeit with a bit of trepidation. Parallax II stands as a pillar of modern metal to me, so I believe in the boys... for now.

Pull The Thorns From Your Heart
Buddy Nielsen has been hyping this as the band's heaviest work to date, and with the recent turmoil in his life and the single they released, I'm buying it. Looking forward to this a great deal after seeing them play Let It Enfold You straight through late last year, when Buddy first began describing the new material at shows.

I’ve dug this band since their debut and while the lack of guitar in the otherwise stellar singles is somewhat disheartening, the songs still flow like silk and Parker continues to sharpen his songwriting skills. Color me intrigued. | |

05.12.15 | 6 has me kind of worried. I also like the idea of 85% clean vocals, but Tommy's cleans don't sounds as nice as on TSC, Alaska and Colors anymore. The new track has some nice riffs, groove and i am really digging the bass, but there is just no emotion like in songs like mordecai, selkies, backwards marathon, sun of nothing etc... Hell I even prefer their debut over this... The vocals are just boring to average... so uninspired. I really hope the whole album will be different from Memory Palace! | Comatorium.
