This is a list of musicians who remind me of musicians from the past. I'm not talking in terms of their music, per se. If I were, we could just put in Wolfmother and Jet and be done with it. But I'm talking about their effect on music. I strongly encourage you to disagree or suggest your own. But give some reasons, I thought sort of hard about this. | 1 | | Rush Dream Theater
Amazing musicality all around. Questionable vocals. At times they have been accused of giving up the song for wankery, sometimes accused of lacking soul. | 2 | | Axl Rose Kanye West
Whiners. Known to rub their fans the wrong way. They think they are the messiahs and challenge those who think otherwise. I'm waiting for Kanye's Chinese Democracy. | 3 | | Pink Floyd The Mars Volta
Spacey music. They both sing about friends lost. Spaced out. Space. The Mars Volta needs a lazer light show, the transformation would be complete. | 4 | | Frank Zappa Mike Patton
They have created some crazy, diverse music. They voices are far from ordinary, both have led their bands to great heights and embarrassing downfalls (I'm going on hearsay for Patton). | 5 | | George Clinton Snoop Dogg
Have either of these guys been sober? The drugs have permeated through both of their music, in Snoop's characteristic delivery and Clinton's trippy funk. | 6 | | Prince Pharrell Williams
Nice, tight little bodies oh my. The ladies love them. Both enjoy the falsetto. | 7 | | Michael Jackson Justin Timberlake
Again, the ladies love them. Fantastic dancers. Came from...boy bands? Is Jackson 5 a boy band? Whatever. | 8 | | Led Zeppelin Opeth
Both took their genres of music and brought them to a completely different level, through great musicianship and great albums. Both are mystical in a slightly pretentious way. Also, I'm sure if you played "Blackwater Park" backwards, you'll get some nice Satanic messages. | |

06.20.08 | nice list dude.
I never really thought of 8 like that, but i see what you mean. | SpinLightTwo
06.20.08 | agree with a lot, but 6 and 8 are questionable | SpinLightTwo
06.20.08 | you could also say that Timberlake was in NYSNC and Jackson was in Jackson Five, and that they both were the only to really do something else with besides both groups | SpinLightTwo
06.20.08 | with themselves besides their groups*
triple post | willfellmarsy
06.20.08 | Nice list...very much agree with 3 and what i've heard of 1, 8 is an interesting thought as wel but i don't know if i agree... | crazycider
06.20.08 | I don't agree with 8 much because there were plenty of amazing rock bands before Led Zeppelin. | ohcleverhansyou
06.20.08 | I felt unsure with 8 as well. But what I'm saying is, yes there were lots of great rock bands before Led Zeppelin, there were also lots of great metal bands before Opeth. I feel both took their genres to a new level of artistry. There are other bands who did this for sure. But Zeppelin and Opeth are two huge names from their genres to do so. | EStreetFan
06.20.08 | Great list, but for 4 I think the more accurate connection would be between Frank and a guy called Mike Keneally. Although that may not count, since Mike got his start with Zappa. He still comes closest to the Zappa feel/humor/musical genius, though. | Mendigo
06.20.08 | very interesting list.
the way you present it I'm even happy with 1 and 3, though both times I love the old band and dislike the new one. | Poet
