Top 10 2014

So after years of anonymously browsing sputnik I decided that I would finally just make a damn rprofile. And what better way to start than with a cliche year's end list?
1Trophy Scars
Holy Vacants

Now I know this had it's day (month) in the sun as one of the top trending albums, and
it had good reason. Everything just comes together. Sure, a lot of people will double
take when hearing Jerry's voice for the first time, but it just gets to you. It kept me
hooked from beginning to end, and still leaves me with goosebumps every time.
Favorite Track: Everything Disappearing
2Skyharbor
Guiding Lights

I was hooked on Skyharbor from the start when Blinding White Noise came out, but this
really blew me away. The band stepped up their sound in every aspect, Daniel
Tompkins continues his consistently good vocals, and the drums and bass have their
moments as well. Patience was the single that really got me excited, and standout
tracks like Miracle, Halogen, and Allure are sure to please as well.
Favorite Track: Miracle
3Submotion Orchestra
Alium

This has been the soundtrack of my blissfull dreams since it came out. Soothing and
beautiful, a solid follow up to an already solid sophomore release.
Favorite Track: Time Will Wait
4Thee Silver Mount Zion
Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything

I will always love this band regardless of any attempt they make to shake me off by
switching names. "Fuck Off Get Free" finally dethroned "He Has Left Us Alone" as my
favorite album by the band. The instrumentals are crashing, the vocals are haunting,
and the entire record is an experience.
Favorite Track: What We Loved Was Not Enough
5Fallujah
The Flesh Prevails

Holy shit. It's like standing on a mountain and being blown away by a sudden, huge
blast of wind, riding said blast across the sky at breakneck speed, before landing
headlong on another mountain peak where you scream into the night sky. Seriously.
Favorite Track: Chemical Cave
6Monuments
The Amanuensis

At first I wasn't too crazy about this when it came out, but it grew on me and now it's a
constant on my playlist. Chris displays powerful harsh and clean vocals alike, while the
music still maintains it's focus on groove. And it definitely delivers on the groove.
Favorite Track: Quasimodo
7How to Dress Well
What Is This Heart?

Though it may look out of place sandwiched between Monuments and '68, "What Is
This Heart" earned it's place in my top 10 with it's captivating vocals and superb
atmosphere. Tom Krell delivers an immense vocal performance, using his voice to
maximum effect to really dig into the listener. This is an album that makes you feel,
and that's exactly what music needs to do.
Favorite Track: Face Again
868
In Humor and Sadness

I am a massive fan of Josh Scogin, and was a massive fan of The Chariot. When I
heard about '68, I had high expectations. These expectations were met and
surpassed. This is perhaps Scogin's best musical venture yet, while also being one of
the most simple. If you get the chance, see them live. The energy is out of this world.
Favorite Track: Track 2 E
9Banks
Goddess

I had never heard of Banks before, so when I read the reviews for Goddess, I was
interested. I found a rich album that was far more than I had expected. Banks' voice
is raw and gripping, while also soothing and captivating. Mixed with solid production
and simple yet effective beats, the album is solid throughout.
Favorite Track: Waiting Game
10Destiny Potato
Lun

Band name aside, I loved this release. I am a huge fan of David Maxim Micic and his
Bilo series, as well as his frequent collaborator Aleksandra Djelmas. Destiny Potato hit
all the right notes, with harder hitting songs such as Lunatic blending well with more
melodic songs Walls of Thoughts.
Favorite Track: Walls of Thoughts
