My taste is changing
i recently turned 18 and my life and taste in music was all put in rperspective. list is 5 albums i used to love but now don't, followed by r5 albums that have really grown on me lately. rrecs are welcomed |
1 | | A Day To Remember Homesick
I used to be all about this shit. It's starting to get old to me now. Some bands I still
enjoy. However, I remember ordering this album in particular on cassette and
jamming it everyday in my car. I rarely listen to it anymore. |
2 | | Alesana The Emptiness
First concept album I thoroughly enjoyed. I remember feeling so mature bragging to
my friends about how I was so into Poe after reading up on this. Listening now, I
realize just how pretentious and annoying this band is. Shawn Milke's new band is a
lot better. |
3 | | Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
This gives me a headache now. Too much angst and programming for me, I guess. |
4 | | Social Distortion Social Distortion
This band basically just released the same album 5 times in a row after breaking
into the mainstream with this album. I appreciate the melancholy and the bluesy
feelings but it gets dull fast. |
5 | | Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
I still enjoy Lump Sum, but Justin's falsetto eventually got on my nerves and I can't
personally look past it anymore. |
6 | | Brand New Deja Entendu
This really grew on me the more I listened to it. The lyrics and themes are
eloquently designed and seeing the band play live made me appreciate this album
much more. |
7 | | Pity Sex Feast of Love
Heard Wind-Up on a compilation last summer and loved it. I checked out the album
and was bored. Shoegaze never really caught my attention but my patience has
flourished and I'm starting to appreciate the genre more and more. This was a
stepping stone album for me. |
8 | | Fleetwood Mac Rumours
Thanks, Dad. |
9 | | American Football American Football
Same thing as with Brand New. I did not immediately see the beauty and intricacies
of these compositions, but the more I really listened the more I appreciated it. I am
a sucker for time signatures. |
10 | | Pianos Become the Teeth Keep You
I noticed that most fans of this band are split about the loss of harsh vocals on this
album, but the lyrics and music perfectly mirrored a dark time for me. This album
brought me closure to a life-changing event and made me realize that I can move
on. Probably will be on my top 10 list this year. |
