| Records On My Turntable, Scotch In My Belly
Since this is my first post I thought I'd keep it simple to the LP's I've been playing recently...I rfind scotch is a great bedfellow to my listening pleasures....and for getting through our long, rlong, long Minnesota winters | 1 | | Black Monolith Passenger
An abrasive, diverse, yet cohesive mix, of old Ebullition Records style punk rock,
raw black metal and snippets of doom-colored post-rock | 2 | | Stray Ghost So Much To Remember, So Much To Forget
Beautifully sad neo-classical songs with piano and strings....a great soundtrack to
winter | 3 | | Lord Time Drink My Tears
Outsider black metal at its absolute best...dark, fractured and fiercely bizarre | 4 | | Mamaleek He Never Spoke A Mumblin Word
Post-moderm, outsider black metal never sounded so cohesive and personal | 5 | | Wire Pink Flag
The first LP from these post-punk godfathers...every song is a brilliant little
punctuated jab to the chin! | 6 | | Bonnie "Prince" Billy I See a Darkness
Will Oldham's most haunting work is an uncomfortable and highly affecting record
of late-night laments and broken crooning | 7 | | Cloudkicker Beacons
A nip from the flask, throw the headphones on and take the dogs for a long walk...this
is the ideal soundtrack | 8 | | What Moon Things What Moon Things
My favorite post-punk record in quite some time....sounds like a really noisy
Chameleons at times | 9 | | The Body Christs, Redeemers
Some of the darkest slabs of droning black metal ever, and an LP that continues to
impress me after many, many listens | 10 | | Wreck And Reference Want
Sounds like a black metal band got lost in an art-school nightmare...outstanding | 11 | | Unwound Live Leaves
An essential listen for Unwound fans, Corpse Pose sounds so incredible with the
extra musicians | 12 | | Unwound Repetition
'Repetition,' was the lp that hooked me so many years ago, and it holds up
amazingly well | 13 | | Thantifaxath Sacred White Noise
Creative, harsh, jarring, and well executed black metal from this astounding
Canadian band... | 14 | | Sleeping Peonies Ghosts, and other things
Last calls, smeared make-up, white-washed light....blurry, dreamy, droney black
metal that stands out in an extremely crowded genre | 15 | | Velvet Cacoon Northsuite
A band that has really proven that they were way ahead of their time....buzzing,
droning, narcotic, highly saturated black metal with an emphasis on atmosphere | 16 | | Botanist VI: Flora
Who woulda thunk the hammered dulcimer could be so ominous? | 17 | | Labradford Fixed:Content
2001 release from this highly influential (rightfully so) minimalist band....This LP
unfolds like one long beautiful sigh | 18 | | The Smiths Meat Is Murder
There always seems to be at least one Smiths LP in heavy rotation, this time
around it's, 'Meat Is Murder,'....nearly flawless | 19 | | Hell I
The first LP from this Oregon doooooooom band...some of the absolutely darkest and
unnerving atmospherics ever put to vinyl | 20 | | Xiu Xiu Angel Guts: Red Classroom
This is a bleak LP even by Xiu Xiu standards, and, probably my most played LP of
the last few weeks...for those of us who love to feel very, very uncomfortable | 21 | | Slint Spiderland
I've been listening to this LP for over 20 years and it still sounds new every single
time I hear it | 22 | | Parlour Trick A Blessed Unrest
A beautifully spectral LP that's the perfect companion to Victorian resignation, quiet
revenge, low-gas-lit-lights, rain, 'laudanum,' Edgar Allen Poe tales, and a glass of
scotch | 23 | | Crooked Necks Ruins Of Resurrection
Very cool lo-lo-lo fi, dreamy, black metal-esque outsider shoegaze from a couple
years back | 24 | | Have A Nice Life The Unnatural World
Most likely this will end up being my record of the year, blackened shoegaze with a Swans-esque brilliance
filtered through horror movies....I've played this more than any LP in 2014 and it's
not getting old | 25 | | Escape The Day Ghostless
So very, very, very sad.....winter is almost here | |
Phlegm
10.02.14 | Yarr! | BMDrummer
10.02.14 | good list, welcome to sput | Jots
10.02.14 | 2 sounds up my alley. some cool jams on here | TheSpaceMan
10.02.14 | scotch is good when you're willing to drop the money but I'm a much bigger bourbon drinker, for a reasonably priced $25-$35 750ml bourbon tends to beat scotch to my tastes
I'm also american so yeah that might be why lol | TheSpaceMan
10.02.14 | oh wait this is a music website
cool list of albums | ZombicidalMan
10.02.14 | I usually go for bourbon in the summer and make mint juleps or old fashioneds. Picked up some Booker's which packs quite a punch
But I also bought some $130 scotch which tbh is the best alcohol I've ever had. and it's hard to drink other booze now. I need to grab 24 on vinyl | Dickens44
10.02.14 | Booker's is delicious...goes well with black metal and summer bbq's!...scotch is just perfect for the 7 month-long Minnesota winters, headpones, and combing through LP's. The vinyl of, 'Unnatural Life,' is awesome btw...Flenser Records does a quality job with their releases | ZombicidalMan
10.02.14 | agreed. Usually I'd go for Maker's Mark but Booker's is worth the little extra IMO. I really love Islay scotch, so Laphroaig is my go to, but this time I grabbed Ardbeg Uigeadail. Definitely worth the price, can't wait until snow falls so I can bust out some black metal
I might pick up the Deathconsciousness RI and UW together from Flenser | TheSpaceMan
10.02.14 | Never tried Booker's myself but Maker's is nectar, though the Elijah Craig 12 year has been my go to recently | Dickens44
10.02.14 | Laphroaig is my absolute favorite...I especially love the cask strength, otherwise I like Bowmore and Ardbeg as well. It'll certainly put a warm step into cold feet. If you haven't heard Wreck And Reference yet, they're on Flenser too, and the vinyl sounds really good....one of my favorite LP's of the year. | NorthernSkylark
10.02.14 | wire, unwound and smiths - great expectations matched. | ScuroFantasma
10.02.14 | haven't heard 7 yet but the band are great, Subsume rules | PappyMason
10.02.14 | Great list. | clercqie
10.02.14 | "Laphroaig is my absolute favorite...I especially love the cask strength, otherwise I like Bowmore and Ardbeg as well."
Mmm, smoke... Lagavulin is up there as well, love the balance of that one.
Great list. Got any recs for a guy who's only exposure to black metal have been Deafheaven, Ash Borer and Wolves in the Throne Room? | Dickens44
10.02.14 | Absolutely...black metal has such a breadth to it, that it's a fascinating genre to explore...Check out: Lunar Aurora, Panopticon, Coldworld, Furze, Bone Awl, Mamaleek, Saor, Xasthur, Wildernessking, Clouds Collide, Darkthrone, Castevet, Darkspace, Vordr, Circle Of Ouroborus, Lord Time, Leviathan, Lurker Of Chalice, Burzum (older LP's), Agalloch (older LP's), Old Witch, Abyssal, Mutiilation, The Body, Palace Of Worms...there are so so many more amazing bands. I usually use Sputnik, Bandcamp and the Aquarius Records website for most of black metal exposure.
I've only ever had the Lagavulin 16, but I remember it being super peaty, which, I like a lot! | Grimlin
11.09.14 | dude, where did you get 23 on vinyl? pretty sure it was only ever released on cd. | Relinquished
11.09.14 | it was only on CD | Grimlin
11.09.14 | thought so. probably sounds terrible on a turntable. |
