Top 10 Experimental Recs
10System Of A Down
System of a Down

the first band who mixed alternative metal with hardcore punk, they even took
elements from pop and hip-hop, SOAD was one of the most groundbreaking acts of
the last two decades
9The Fall of Troy
The Fall of Troy

the way TFoT mixed screamo with mathrock and progressive rock on their classic
albums became very popular. there's an entire record label of TFoT ripoff bands
called Blue Swan, ironically the founder of the label plays in an emo/metalcore/funk
band which gets worse with every release
8Enter Shikari
Take To The Skies

these guys deserve the most credit on the list because bands like Asking Alexandria
I See Stars and Woe Is Me wouldn't exist without them, ironically they're all better
than ES but in the terms of innovation ES is above them
7Korn
Korn

this doesn't really need explanation, Korn created numetal, inspired bands such as
Limp Bizkit, System of a Down, Deftones and Slipknot
6Black Sabbath
Paranoid

one of the first bands who mixed psychedelic rock with blues rock thus creating metal
5AFI
Sing the Sorrow

can you be "hardcore" and "commercial" at the same time, before AFI got big with
their unique sound the answer wasn't obvious. now it is
4Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory

the first band who brought elements from mainstream pop into numetal
3The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

brought elements from mathrock, hardcore, grind and even jazz into metal
2Periphery
Periphery

Periphery was influenced by bands like Meshuggah, Dream Theater and Deftones
but they sound way better than these bands, they compensate their downtuned
riffs with trendy electronica which makes them truly unique... there are a few acts
who try to sound like them chough destiny potato chough but they fail
1Issues
Issues

it would be really hard to name any band that sounds like Issues. mostly because
unlike bands like TDWP and Attack Attack! they are inimitable... there are only a
few bands who can mix post-hc with rnb without sounding cheesy and Issues is
definitely the best of these bands, only Dance Gavin Dance comes close but they
lack the djenty guitarwork and the refined electronics
