Been tripping on his playing recently. Such a great drummer. He always plays exactly what the music needs, no more, no less. Queens are lucky to have him and he is lucky to be playing with them also. Very excited to see what comes out on their next release with him playing.
|1||The Mars Volta|
De-loused in the Comatorium
Frantic, groovy, tribal, bombastic. Each part perfectly suited to the both the instrumentals and vibe of the songs.
|2||The Mars Volta|
Frances the Mute
Same as 1 but on a whole new level. Just listen to the patterns in Miranda... and the jam sections.
|3||One Day As A Lion|
One Day As A Lion
Beats for days.
|4||Queens of the Stone Age|
His playing on the title track (his only performance) carries the track perfectly. Like I said, can't wait to see what comes next from Queens.
|IMHO the best of the Mars Volta Drummers and also a personal all-time favorite. He just has sooo much groove.|
|Agreed, IMO they actually held themselves back from being something greater than what they became by first; removing his creativity from most of Amputechture by being facist control freaks and second; firing him soon after rather than working out the issues he was having. TMV was never really good after he left for me, it lost it's 'timeless' aesthetic.|
|Their first two albums are the best for me too (Cygnus is one of my favorite songs of all time), although I have to say I love Bedlam almost as much, maybe because it was the album that got me into them in the first place. Everything else is merely a 3.0-3.5 in my book, especially Octahedron which lacks every bit of energy they once had... But then again, I can't really think of many prog bands who were able to constantly innovate themselves and not go idea-bankrupt after a a certain time, while still delivering memorable music. Mastodon lost it after CTS, TMV went downhill hard after Bedlam, BTBAM while still being great lost it after Colors, Oceansize are the only ones who maybe did it right by ending it after album #4 haha and we will have to wait for Tool's new one to see if they will once again make their magic work.|

The only exception is The Widow. I spend most of that song just wanting him to shut up. Great great great drummer though
