sans a couple of exceptions this looks like every other professional list.
kinda feel like 2007 was a rough year for music in general
liike a modern version of pet sounds only really terrible
2007 was a weird year for me. For the first few months The Shins album was actually my favorite of the year just because NOTHING came out that I liked, and then near the end of the year I discovered a ton of music from the year that I really enjoyed. So overall it was a surprisingly great year for music. Can't say I liked any of this though.
I think it's a great year for music actually...
My personal favorite of the year is Justice, they are just insane and hopefully will be the big thing on the electronica scene for years to come...
LCD Soundsystem and The Field are like perfect minimalist electronica...
M.I.A's Kala and KanYe's Graduation hopefully represent the new direction rap will be going in, sort of like progressive rap.
Panda Bear represents everything good about Animal Collective.
Of Montreal and Spoon are like these fun indie bands that hopefully will lead the way for more (Also the Shins are included here too).
Battles is the most original thing to come out in years. Yeah, they do sound a lot like their former bands, especially Don Cab, but they pretty much get it right, and that's important.
And Circa Survive is just an incredible band, I really don't understand why they don't get more hype. On Letting Go is probably one of the tightest albums out in the "post hardcore" scene right now, which is what I associate Circa with.
But seriously, if nothing else, Justice rocks the pants off everyone.
2007 was a good year for underground music, bad for mainstream. Say Anything's album was probably my top for 2007.
