07.05.14 | I have to say I agree with many of the items on this list but did you really think that GCMC was that bad? Sure a slight step down from section 80 but I thought GCMC was substantially better than OD. |
riffariffic7
07.05.14 | I disagree, but I like your opinions on why you don't like them so... agree to disagree, I guess? Nevertheless good list, man. I disagree with 7 out 10 of your choices. I hate Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre isn't bad, but I never really liked that album (apart from "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" and "Stranded on Death Row", I could care less about this album), and I never cared much for 50 Cent (but his fail of a baseball pitch made for a great laugh, especially his excuse as to why it "actually" happened, he seems like a cool guy, but his rapping is kinda... boring IMO). |

07.05.14 | So is Infinite and Eminem Show |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | Have to agree on 7.
Except for 'Stan' and 'The Way I Am' it's not that interesting for me. It has it's fair share of good tracks but I too prefer The Eminem Show and SSLP both lyrically and sonically |
riffariffic7
07.05.14 | How about "Criminal"? I love that song. |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | Yeah, it isn't bad, but most of those songs seem pretty monotonous to me and as the closer on a 70 minute LP it really hasn't anything spectacular to offer. Rather go with 'Kill You' or 'Who Knew' |
riffariffic7
07.05.14 | I've always been a fan of Eminem's singles, he usually makes wise choices for which songs people would like the most. Did you like "Fast Lane" off that Bad Meet Evil album? I love that song, wish it was in a Fast & Furious movie or something. |
SharkTooth
07.05.14 | it was the only good song off Hell: The Sequel |
riffariffic7
07.05.14 | That might be true because I've actually never heard the full album either. :D |
SharkTooth
07.05.14 | the album sucks, don't even bother with it. |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | Well, you have to give him credit for choosing the most promising songs, but they're hardly ever my favourites. His joke songs simply aren't really fun - they are catchy though - and since he almost universally picks them as lead singles...
but he still manages to put out one of his best sometimes, so guess you're right on that one.
Oh, and I never heard 'Fast Lane'. I respect Eminem as one hell of a rapper (really just the rapping), but he pretty much lost me after Encore and I'm not a hip-hop guy by any means so I didn't really care for that one. |
Ricochet
07.05.14 | agreed with the points although 7 is fucking incredible and the subject matter does not get tiring at all |
riffariffic7
07.05.14 | "Rap God" is unbelievably good, it gets better the more I hear it. Even though some parts of the song are a bit too much, like when he overuses the word "gay" so much at a certain point in the song that it's nearly facepalm-inducing, but it doesn't get there (because the moment probably lasts for 30 seconds or less because the song literally rushes in as many rhymes and raps as humanly possible), Eminem is just 100% fast and ruthless with his raps which is both a gift and a curse when it comes to songs such as this. |
LambsBread
07.05.14 | Mmlp is good it's just so plain compared to eminem show and eminem show doesn't even get half it's acclaim.
Yeah rap god is pretty damn good I love how I'm still picking up on lyrics after so many listens, my favorite song is brainless though, it makes me feel like a middle school kid first hearing eminem again |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | Yeah, that's good work. Don't know 'Recovery' yet, but it's probably the best he's done since his comeback. I mean, it's pretty much him being the narcissistic ass he's been after his breakthrough, but when it comes to the rapping, he hasn't been better in the last decade or so ('1st Single' was great too for that part). Still, I like him more in his darker and more earnest moments. |
SharkTooth
07.05.14 | Lambs, you NEED to check out Copper Gone by Sage Francis, the songs there have many of the same qualities you used to describe Rap God. |
VermTheNedSlayer
07.05.14 | Tbh agree hard with 4 and 8, ugh |
Gyromania
07.05.14 | You must have really missed the point of good kid m.a.a.d city if you think it's sending the wrong messages. Elsewhere you're criticizing eminem for having bad lyrics (lol) on the mmlp which is ridiculous because his songs are clever, catty, self-referential, and his flow is excellent |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | Well, I'm just talking about Em here, never listened to Kendrick, probably never will.
But for one, no, songs like 'The Real Slim Shady', 'I'm Back' or 'Drug Ballad' aren't clever, they are between juvenile and somehow boring (altough that's very subjective).
Him being self-referential isn't necessarily a good thing, it's just better than constantly dissing other rappers.
And the flow on the MMLP itself, even if it is again highly subjective, doesn't seem that great to me (I can't really compare it since I hardly know any other hip-hop), it's more his way to write lyrics that's really stunning. |
KrazyKris
07.05.14 | ~Mmlp is good it's just so plain compared to eminem show and eminem show doesn't even get half it's acclaim.~

07.06.14 | Do you know what I was actually with until the last 3 then you just fell off the tracks completely.
The last 3 are rightfully rated as highly as they are. Maybe Ready to Die should be considered a 4*, well, it is in my books, but I can see why some people want to 5* it. |

LambsBread
07.06.14 | "You must have really missed the point of good kid m.a.a.d city if you think it's sending the wrong

No GKMC is stereotypical. bitches, money trees, braggin about being from a shitty neighborhood. The
few tidbits of lyrics where he tries to say hes not a part of it is just ridiculous, he glorifies
everything mentioned with his music, then he tries to throw in a few lyrics saying he disapproves of
it to save face.
Like honestly if you want to make an anti drinking song dont make a hook that everyone drinks to in
bars etc.
And I never said eminem is bad in lyrical presentation, I said MMLP is really limited in subject
matter compared to The Eminem Show |
LambsBread
07.06.14 | @Manky Don't see that at all. GKMC and MBDTF are way more overrated than Ready to Die. Ready to Die was groundbreaking and a classic, neither of those are anywhere near classic albums and are both considered classics.

Hahahaha, that's quality.
Probably agree with a lot that's on here.
I'm not too sure that Pac did make 5 albums better than 3, although my reasons for loving that album is more to do with the samples and the whole flow of the album. |
SharkTooth
07.06.14 | My reason for loving 3 is the fact that it is a quality album, Pac never made anything as consistently good despite what you say |
PappyMason
07.06.14 | ^ Yeh, that too! |
Gyromania
07.06.14 | lambs: it's so much more than that. it's an autobiography detailing life in compton. the subject matter is a little misogynistic and such i'll give you that, but it fits well with the theme and it's also political at times (sing about me, i'm dying of thirst) |
LambsBread
07.07.14 | Pac made way deeper albums, RTD just sounds better. Music isn't all about sound to me. Pac changed people's lives, big just made some really chill songs.
I get what hes trying to do with GKMC, and its not really even bad at all. Especially Kendrick's contribution to it. my problem is how the album was marketed, the contradictory hooks (Swimming Pools) and the songs that were made singles, when taken by themselves, completely misrepresent the story of the album IE Backseat freestyle. Like anyone watching just that video is not going to think its part of a bigger story. Or the Sherane video. They are just stereotypical rap songs.
I just think he woulda made a way doper album on his own.

Masochist
07.07.14 | Disagree with #10, but I guess both of our opinions are biased as hell. Can't agree with #3 because I was always a bigger Biggie fan than 2Pac (and I grew up in the west). Disagree with #5 because of the reason--East Coast hip-hop at that time was all about flow, message, and jazzy beats. West Coast was all about image, personalities, and funky beats. 'The Chronic' isn't really considered "better" in terms of raw skill, but it was waaaaaay more well-known because the songs were more accessible, and it had much more commercial success. |

07.07.14 | That's what I thought you were meaning, and I get that. Its not really his fault though. Could he have made it more direct? Sure, but the way he was able to mix it into a more mainstream effort was definitely a more beneficial move. |
