Artuma's 2014: Top 10

haven't been able to listen to as much music this year as i wanted but rthese rule
1black monolith

kinda deafheaven-ish (yeah i love them) but heavier. leaves off all the "pink" stuff and instead goes more hardcore. near-perfect

a recent dig. i'd say this is a superb fusion of isis-esque post-metal and post-hardcore. the atmosphere on here is incredible
3la dispute
rooms of the house

i don't get the hate. it's obvious that they aren't a hard-hitting screamo band anymore but it gives them space for more cohesive and mature songwriting. and how they use that space is astonishing. i don't really miss dreyer's shouts and bombastic lyrics anymore even though this doesn't top somewhere at the bottom
4the mire
glass cathedrals

fantastic post-metal
to be kind

the bone-crushing no-wave band is back. the hype was incomprehensible but they managed to live up to it
6trophy scars
holy vacants

had never listened to them before the hype this album got. i was blown away after first listen

from the very first few seconds of this you already know this is not an ordinary grindcore album. another great achievement by the discordance axis frontman jon chang

i like screamo
9andrew jackson jihad
christmas island

another consistent album by the eclectic folk-punk masters
10the menzingers
rented world

i also like catchy punk rock
