05.15.14 | This show is next on my watch list. |

05.15.14 | @Cyg, there's a post punk band called wire. Unless you're being sarcastic and I'm just retarded.
Great show. Omar should be 1 c:

05.15.14 | So you'd rather continue to exist blissfully ignorant to the harsh realities faced by those less fortunate than yourself? One of the major themes of the show is the cyclical nature of the game, something that very few characters are able to escape. I doubt there'll ever be a show that will come close to matching the gritty realism and universal truths found in The Wire, which to me is the greatest critique of American society I've seen. "We used to make shit in this country, build shit. Now we just put our hands in the next guys pocket." |
avonbarksdale221
05.15.14 | as for best characters, I'd go, in no real order: bodie, omar, avon, bubbles, the bunk, bunny, stringer, deangelo, mcnulty (what the fuck did I do?) slim charles, brother mouzone, frank sobotka and carver. |
qwe3
05.15.14 | no omar 0/10 |
TheSupernatural
05.15.14 | I've seen the first episode of The Wire but it just didn't really grip me.
Watched all of Oz though. That show was brutal and great at the same time |
avonbarksdale221
05.15.14 | wire takes a while to get into man, took me two viewing to get past the first ep but once you get into it the payoff is fucking immense
first three seasons of oz are great, completely lost the plot in season 4 imo. gave up 1 episode into season 5 |
jtswope
05.15.14 | How is Omar not a favorite? Haha to each his own. I wouldn't call the show cynical, just gritty. It's more about painting a portrait of the way things are, not necessarily dramatizing them to the extent you seem to indicate. Greatest show of all time imo. |
qwe3
05.15.14 | man i really hated oz to be honest |
jtswope
05.15.14 | Oz was great in its first few seasons. |

No, I am by no means ignorant to the realities but there are in no way exaggerated as depicted in the show. Think about it, any form of hope the viewer had in either the institutions or the people depicted in the show was eventually shattered. Anyone who had a real desire for reform just found it impossible to do so. In the world there is both good and bad, the show depicted that it was all bad. Apart from Bubbles, Cutty and Poot, I don't think you can see any other positive. That said, the was just brilliant! |

05.15.14 | Don't worry about avon he's a hopeless fanboy |

TheSupernatural
05.15.14 | I watched Oz in its entirety, but this was only over the past year and a half. Season 4 was kinda a low point with the way it dragged on, but seasons 5 and 6 were still pretty good |

05.17.14 | "second best show ever"

Rowan5215
05.17.14 | Lester Freamon tho [2] |

05.17.14 | Lester Freemon was great, I liked him but if I was to replace someone in the list it would be in the favor of Omar. Lester would still miss out but only just... |

05.17.14 | Best show of all time. |
Rowan5215
05.17.14 | Am I the only one who thought it was weird that the hooker from Orlando's started living with Lester in like S2 or something and then she is NEVER MENTIONED AGAIN? |

05.17.14 | yeh that stripper chick is in the last episode, lester walks into the bar with her (if my memory is right).
man i really wish dee lived to the end. i guess things like his death kinda make the wire what it is though. unexpected emotional eruptions left right and center. |
jefflebowski
05.17.14 | best tv show of all time hands down
and the reason it's so dark and cynical is because that's what baltimore's like - given that both the writers (david simon worked at the local paper and ed burns worked in the homicide unit) have first hand experience you'd have to think they're not exaggerating much |

05.17.14 | just started season 4 today, currently its up there with Sopranos and Deadwood as best TV shows |

05.17.14 | only seen the first 3, but i heard before that season 2 was a bit weaker but i thought that it was just as good as the other 2 seasons if not better. Frank Sobotka was one of the best characters on the show |

05.17.14 | Just finished Sopranos last night. May be the most overrated show ever, just cause it's constantly touted as the greatest show ever. |

05.17.14 | that scene when ziggy gets ripped with those mercs, then comes barging in guns blazing might be my fav scene ever.

05.18.14 | Watching The Wire causes genuine emotional trauma. Scene when Bodie gets capped is soul destroying.

05.18.14 | One of the top 3 heartbreaking moments has to be when Frank goes to see Ziggy in jail after getting hit with that life sentence, and Zig knows how fucked his life is. |

05.19.14 | all in the game yo |
Rowan5215
05.19.14 | One of the most shocking deaths ever but it suited him though |
benkim
05.19.14 | I had actually forseen him die with the way he was going in the streets looking for Marlo with a broken leg. I expected him to be cornered somehow but I guess The Wire was not a TV show to give us what we expect. |
Sleaper
05.19.14 | the reason this show is so good, aside from its realistic portrayal, is its character development. each character had such a strong message behind them |
benkim
05.19.14 | It didn't even have a real main character did it? It had so many characters and managed to juggle of them brilliantly!! |
Sleaper
05.19.14 | mcnulty is clearly the main character. but yeh apart from that it was spread out well |
benkim
05.19.14 | For the first 2 seasons yes, but after esp in season 3 and 4, you can't really call him the main character can you. Season 5, yes again. |
Sleaper
05.19.14 | 3/5 seasons being main character. pretty confident that makes him the main character. |
benkim
05.19.14 | Yeah, but again it's not like in all the shows we have the main character take a back seat for 2 whole seasons is it? It is not as straight forward as you put it. |
DamnVanne
05.20.14 | I like to think that Prezbylewski is the main character in season 1, and the plot is him trying to comprehend the gap between his abilities and good police work. |
benkim
05.20.14 | I don't think I am too far off to say, the main character is Baltimore. |
DamnVanne
05.23.14 | good call |

05.23.14 | yep, and it's a fucking shithole |

03.28.15 | Watched it again and it was actually 10x better! I had missed so much the first time. Also, the scenes where Michael says goodbye to his kid brother and then to Dukie made me cry like a baby this time! Such a heartwrenching scene! |
DamnVanne
03.28.15 | Carcetti made me much angrier the second time around. He sells out so hard to every stuffed shirt who tells him they will help him later. I didn't hate Bodie at all though on rewatch. Maybe it's cuz Wallace didn't seem so innocent anymore. He should not have come back |
benkim
03.28.15 | Yeah me too. Of all the characters he's the one I hate most now. I actually realized he was a self loving asshole from the start! I forgave Bodie for Wallace even first time round. |
someguest
03.28.15 | Obama likes it. |
decemberhotel
03.28.15 | Love this show too. But I agree, deadwood was better. |
DamnVanne
03.29.15 | Marlo was the most evil character imo. Just that you saw, he ordered Chris and Snoop to kill like 5 completely innocent people just cuz he didn't want to look vulnerable. Not just them, but Prop Joe too... |
benkim
03.30.15 | Marlo had zero redeemable qualities. Killing that guard was so cowardly! |
theacademy
03.30.15 | Bunny was my fav character |
JWT155
03.30.15 | I need to rewatch the wire again soon. |
LunaticSoul
03.30.15 | Great show. So much better than the Sopranos |
benkim
03.30.15 | So much better than everything else actually. Good shout with Bunny being the best character. He's the one I identified with the most. |
Psynuts
03.30.15 | The strength of the wire has always been that they made the criminals likeable, but not in a cheap way, they developed their characters really well, u don't really see that in a lot of shows nowadays |
EyesWideShut
03.30.15 | Bunk and Bunny were both good guys.. Marlo and the Barksdale crew might have run the streets but The Greek was the true gangster. |
DominionMM1
03.30.15 | part of the reason that season 2 was my favorite
|
