| What Do You Look For In Music?
Do your best to answer all 19 questions to display your viewpoint. It makes me wonder ry'know? | 1 | | Frank Zappa Sheik Yerbouti
#1.What are your biggest turn ons when it comes to music that may differ from the
general public? [Some of mine include quirky humor, a unique/distinct singing voice
even if it's weird, genre hopping, and heavy basslines/bouncy drums.] | 2 | | Black Sabbath Master of Reality
#2.How important is a good riff to you? Does it make or break the song? [As much as I
love a good riff, I like plenty of music that isn't even slightly based around riffs.] | 3 | | Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band Trout Mask Replica
#3.What are your biggest turn offs when it comes to music that may differ from the
general public of Sputnik? [Some of mine are excessive guttural screaming, emo
whininess, and pounding repetitive drums] | 4 | | Nine Inch Nails Ghosts I-V
#4.Do you like predominantly or completely instrumental albums or do you need vocals
to be in most of the songs? [I can dig some instrumental albums.] | 5 | | The Doors Waiting for the Sun
#5.What is the earliest era of music you tend to enjoy? What's the latest? [I tend to
like things from the 1960s-modern, rarely anything earlier] | 6 | | Faith no More Album of the Year
#6.Do you usually read a review on an album before you listen to it? [Rarely, I'd rather
form an opinion on it as a blank slate.] | 7 | | Mr. Bungle California
#7.Do you write off entire genres such as country, hip hop, or ambient as complete
garbage? [I try not to, but there's some sub-genres such as death metal, emo,
metalcore, and country pop that cause me to frown upon hearing it.] | 8 | | PJ Harvey To Bring You My Love
#8.Do you like your artists to be more consistent in genre? [No. To me, artists who go through
a bunch of genres often rule.] | 9 | | Dinosaur Jr. Where You Been
#9.Do you ever skip tracks when listening to an album? [It'd have to be a god awful song for me
to do it. When listening to an album in full I let even slightly shitty tracks play, hey it's
what the artist intended right? Sometimes they grow on me.] | 10 | | Kate Bush The Kick Inside
#10.Do you feel like you're supposed to love an artist if they heavily influenced an artist
you love? [Supposed to? Nah, but I'll usually give them a try.] | 11 | | Yes Fragile
#11.Does your opinion on an album drastically change upon many listens? [Many? No, but
it often changes with the first 5 listens. Usually when I form a final one, it tends to stay
as is.] | 12 | | Soundgarden King Animal
#12.Do you feel like original era albums are automatically better than comeback albums?
[Nah, I like King Animal more than Louder Than Love, sue me.] | 13 | | Stevie Wonder Innervisions
#13.Do you think its possible you'll ever love an album that isn't rock/metal? [Already do.] | 14 | | Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
#14.Do you let other people's opinions on an album change your own? [Maybe
subconsciously, but hopefully not too much. I'll go with no.] | 15 | | Frank Zappa You Are What You Is
#15.Are you okay with having many 5s for 1 band? [It REALLY depends on the band, but
yeah for some I feel it's necessary.] | 16 | | Pearl Jam Vitalogy
#16.If you hated an album upon first listen, how many times (if any) do you revisit it?
[Maybe once, but usually if I still hate it upon 3rd listen there's no way they'll be a
4th.] | 17 | | Ween Chocolate and Cheese
#17.Do you like silly music, serious music, or a mix of both? [I tend to like a mix of both, silly music registers well with me.] | 18 | | Pixies Come on Pilgrim
#18.Do you like to complete listening to discographies? [Yes.] | 19 | | Sublime Sublime
#19.How many new albums do you tend to add a week? [Honestly, 3 or less, I really like
to get to know my music so I go extra slow... plus some albums are dense.] | 20 | | Smashing Pumpkins Adore

05.06.14 | Opinion time! | NordicMindset
05.06.14 | No wonder you don't take out Tool fillers... | Muisc4Life26
05.06.14 | 1. I would say energy, passion and atmosphere
2. A good riff is always cool
3. overuse of breakdowns especially when it's like 10 breakdowns in one song
4. I like both, jazz and post rock are incredible examples of beautiful
instrumentals, the vocals are always a pleasure to hear.
5. any decade is fine with me
6. I listen to it multiple times before i review it
7. Country is not complete garbage, it's actually one of my favorite types of music. Underground and Golden Hip Hop is great, Ambient is nice every once in a while
8. Yes
9. It depends
10. Not really, you could though
11. It depends, i might bump it or down it, but i won't stop loving it
12. Again it depends, comeback albums are mainly failures however others succeses
13. I love many albums that aren't rock and metal.
14. Not exactly, but i love when people voice their opinions into something worthwhile
15. Yes i do, artists like John Coltrane, Godspeed, Prince, Miles Davis, Iron Maiden ,etc
16. It takes me multiple listens
17. I love comedy music, Flight of the Conchords, Steel Panther.Tim Minchin, Tenacious D, etc
18. I do ''Buckethead'' jk
19. 5-10
20. you're good :D | climactic
05.06.14 | "#13.Do you think its possible you'll ever love an album that isn't rock/metal?"
lol ? | NordicMindset
05.06.14 | cmon now we aren't that assholey | ZombicidalMan
05.06.14 | 1-19. I have to like it | Onirium
05.06.14 | 1. An interesting, original and potentially innovative way to make music
2. To me, a riff is very important in metal, but I don't care if there are riffs in what I listen to or not. If it's good it's good
3. Overly used growls or screams (Opeth have the best mix of clean/growl imo), pop punk
4. It depends of the style. For exemple, I can listen to instrumental jazz/classical all day, but instrumental punk (idk if it actually exists) probably sounds terrible. To me, music is still music even if there is no vocals in it
5. 18th-19th century classical music (the Romantic era; mainly Chopin and Rachmaninoff). But if you mean popular music it would be something like 60s psychedelia
6. No, I try not to
7. Well, I don't like doing this, but yeah, I banned some genres of my mind. (dubstep, country and grindcore i.e.) If I find an artist that I like and that is not from a genre I usually listen to, I don't care. If it's good it's good
8. Well, I think artists should not have stylistic boundaries, but should base their sound on a particular musical atmosphere and build around it.
9. Sometimes, it depends on the album. If it's album-oriented music then I listen to the album as a whole
10. No, but I still like checking them out.
11. Sometimes
12. No, even though sometimes I am nostalgic of an artist's certain era
13. Yeah, I like jazz, avant-garde, folk and classical almost as much as rock and metal
14. No
15. If the band has many perfect albums yes
16. If it's something I had high expectations for maybe 2 more listens
17. I like both, but I tend to listen to more serious music more often. "Silly music" is fun sometimes, though
18. Yes
19. Usually 3-5 new albums a week. But I will most probably not give them a second chance... Usually I find 1 or 2 good new albums per week if lucky

Only two bands earn that honor,
| Phlegm
05.06.14 | lol | BMDrummer
05.06.14 | 1. A hypnotic mood, something to get completely lost in.
2. Depends, if I listen to Sabbath, Sleep, Electric Wizard or anything like that, the riff is really important. I'm more about atmosphere than anything else though.
3. Excessive technicality, never ending soloing, retarded yelling, or being over-polished.
4. I like some instrumental, but I usually listen to things with vocals.
5. I can listen to things from almost any era, but mostly from the 1960s and on. I love Robert Johnson and Hank Williams though.
6. Not really.
7. I try not to, but sometimes I can't help it for things like modern pop, post-grunge, or nu-metal.
8. Not usually, I like bands to experiment and change.
9. Only on certain albums, like on Aenima.
10. Not really, but I usually do.
11. Not usually, unless it was something I listened to when I was 10.
12. Depends, for instance the Swans record The Seer is a comeback album that happened to be a masterpiece.
13. Yeah, already do. (e.g. Bjork's Homogenic, Hank Williams discography, Robert Johnson discography)
14. Not usually, but I'm not sure.
15. Depends, some bands just make amazing record after amazing record. Usually, I just cherry pick my favorites though.
16. About 3 or 4, depends what I hated about it.
17. Both, I love bands like Alice in Chains and Joy Division, but I also love Mr. Bungle and things like that.
18. Yes, I like to see bands evolve.
19. About 4, this site really wears on you. | BMDrummer
05.06.14 | I did the whole damn thing, was fucking tough. | YakNips
05.06.14 | 1. sadness or any other extreme emotion being omnipresent in the music. A lot of people say "this depresses me" but idk I just like my music to have feeling to it
2. can't tell you how many times I play a song in plug and people are like "where are the riffs." riffs don't make a song, at all.
3. generic bullshit or entry level bullshit that sputnik goes crazy over
4. either one
5. Idk I like some classic shit but for the most part I listen to stuff from the 90s onward.
6. used to do that all the time, now I just listen if someone says I would like it or if it sounds like something I would like.
7. Never heard a good country song. Other than that I will listen to pretty much anything.
8. Well if they can genre-hop successfully I guess that's fine but I mean it's kind of pointless. I have artists that I listen to for certain things and other artists I listen to for other things. Subtle changes are good for sure, but changing genres is kind of pointless.
9. Almost never. I try to avoid that.
10. This is an interesting one. I feel like I should, but a lot of the time I don't, and I feel bad about that. Artists like Fugazi and Rites of Spring were essential in creating a lot of the music I listen to, but I have a tough time getting into those bands.
11. Not usually, no.
12. Definitely
13. fucking duh
14. God no
15. Without a doubt. I have a bunch of 5s for Orchid, Jeromes Dream, Dance Gavin Dance, and Teen Suicide because I feel they deserve it.
16. Usually never, but sometimes once or twice
17. Depends what mood I'm in. I'll listen to either. I mostly like serious because I feel like it has more value overall.
18. For sure
19. Way too many to keep up with. | Avagantamos

05.06.14 | 1. Breakdowns, brodowns, bass drops, blastbeats and Guttarals.
2. Dont need em.
3. Lyrics with meaning, pussy shit and fag shit
4. What the fuck is an instrumental?
5. Music didn't get good until 2010 so il go with that.
6. Yes.
7. No breakdowns. Not music.
8. I don't believe in variation.
9. I always just skip to the breakdowns.
10. Nah thats silly.
11. Depends.
12. No
13. No thats pussy shit.
14. Nah I force people to change their opinions though
15. Nope. I 5d every Meshuggah album.
16. Zero times.
17. Serious. If its not serious then it can't be br00tl.

05.06.14 | 5. Music didn't get good until 2010 so il go with that.
yup this is a fact | Funeralopolis
05.06.14 | 1. quirkiness, sounding sombre or dark
2. riffs aren't the end all be all of music, only really
care about them in certain genres and even then I could still
enjoy the album if it has other things to offer
3. I hate pretty music and slow music (excluding slow metal)
4. Don't care for instrumentals except electronic music where vocals are a turn-off
5. I rarely listen to anything pre-90's but I can dig some good oldies
6. Rarely read review beforehand, might read after 1 listen tho
7. Not really, I am pretty open to most stuff except fuck post-rock and most black metal
8. yes
9. don't usually skip tracks, like to think of the album as a whole piece
10. No, and I'm sick of people jizzing over bands for being influential it means nothing
11. Depends on the album
12. no because Tool's new album rules
13. fuck off
14. probably, although I try not to, but hype and anti-hype are hard to ignore
15. yea
16. Often depends if I think the album has any depth to explore or not
17. hate silly music
18. I rarely listen to more than 1 or 2 albums by a band, I haven't even heard
the new The National album and I claim High Violet to be my favourite album ever
19. probably like 3 | mandan
05.06.14 | 1) eclecticism, atmosphere, feeling of depth, lyrics I identify with (that's pretty rare), originality, experimentation. Musicianship also helps, although I'm not big on technicality.
2) Fuck yeah, I love me a good riff. I don't need 'em all the time, but when ya gotta riff, ya gotta riff.
3) Repetitiveness (I value variation), also don't like excessive technicality, I feel it goes against what music's about.
4) I can jam instrumental stuff, but it's been a while.
5) I like to be open to eras, but am mostly interested in 1960's-2000's music. It really depends on my mood though, you never know when you'll get the urge for some Chuck Berry or some Elvis.
6) I don't think about it tbh.
7) Some. Check my posts on Snide's forum thread for further reference.
8) Change as good, as long as I feel the artist is still making inspired music. It's a tough subject though, shoutbox me for further explanations.
9) Yes. It helps me determine whether or not I'd want to jam the whole thing again. The more I skip, the less likely that becomes. The opposite is true as well.
10) Not necessarily. Many bands I like have common threads in that regard though. SB me for further details.
11) It has. Some albums haven't aged well with me, and some have grown quite a bit. Again, SB me.
12) QotSA's an exception to this, so not necessarily. SB me.
13) I'm pretty open-minded with my music taste, so yeah.
14) I let my ear decide, so I'll say no. It's good to hear other opinions though.
15) No. It makes no sense to me. I just feel each band has it's prime moment(s), so that rating is reserved for the worthy ones. That's how I see it anyway.
16) Depends on how much I despised it. But usually, I don't come back. Some of those albums I don't even finish. I'll say once, perhaps twice at most.
17) Depends on my mood.
18) Yes.
19) Dunno.

15.
16. I'll revisit it maybe a year later.
17. Doesn't matter.
18. Depends on how much I enjoy the artist.
19. 40-75, but I usually only listen to about 1/3 of them.
20. Less ridiculous questions? Nice idea, nonetheless. | TheGreatQ
05.06.14 | #1. idk really
#2. Doesn't really matter, really
#3. again idk
#4. I like instrumentals a lot.
#5. I like classical so...
#6. Occasionally, but I read reviews while listening to an album more often.
#7. I generally don't like rap, pop, prog (uh oh), and "experimental" stuff
#8. Yes, but if they're going to change I prefer for them to either do it slowly or extremely well.
#9. Only if my favorite song is next and I want to get to it faster.
#10. Nope.
#11. Sometimes.
#12. No.
#13. Yes, and I already do.
#14. Not usually, but if they point out a flaw in it that I never noticed before that can change things.
#15. If they make a 5 album then sure, why not.
#16. Depends. Sometimes I never go back to them, sometimes I go back a lot.
#17. Generally serious.
#18. Depends on the band.
#19. I download a lot at a time and then don't listen to them until later. | ExcentrifugalForz
05.06.14 | 1. biggest turn ons are hand holding, eye staring, mouth biting, thongs
2. I don't like riffs in relationships because it pushes you apart
3. biggest turn offs is butt hair. Shave your butt women plz.
4. do i like to be dominant? definitely
5. the earliest era I enjoy?. Middle school dating was da bomb. Marriage sux.
6. Hell ya i read reviews of chicks, don't want to hit on one thats either diseased or too smart for me.
7. I do not right off entire races. There are cute chicks of every color.
8. do i value consistency? no, spice it up
9. do i skip tracks on albums? if they are her albums
10. I definitely check out her friends. They could be bangin as well.
11. my opinion definitely changes over time. You know once the infatuation wears off. then comes the big fight and breakup
12. I used to think the first time you dated a girl was the best but now I think the 2nd and third time around she becomes more fun.
13. No, you think i want a girl that wears cowboy hats?
14. other peoples opinion basically become my own. I only date girls that everybody likes.
15. i'm not big on 5s, I look for 10s
16. if its not love at first sight you can forget about it
17. trust me, you do not want a serious girl. Then its always "when are we getting married," or "come meet my parents"
18. gross!! no
19. 5 times is my weekly average | ArsMoriendi
05.06.14 | @ExcentrifugalForz: Wow Forz you're sooooooooo cool. I wanna be just like you! | PaleoSteno
05.06.14 | 1. Vocal harmonies as well as pretty much everything you listed.
2. I tend to like a good melody in my songs, so yeah
3. Messy guitars I guess? I'm not sure if that's different from the general public here since I've only been posting on the site for a short time.
4. I like both, just depends on my mood.
5. 1960's is the earliest I go.
6. Sometimes I do, just to get an idea of what I'm getting into.
7. I don't really write them off, I just don't find myself interested enough in them to check 'em out.
8. If they're good at more than one genre, then that's fine.
9. I never skip tracks because when I'm listening to an album I want to listen to it as a whole.
10. Not really.
11. Not too drastically, I might like it more after a couple listens if I don't quite get it the first time, or I might... actually yes, because a couple of my favorite albums I listened to once and thought they were good or just alright, then after listening to them one or two more times, I fell in love with them.
12. It really depends on the artist.
13. Well, a couple of my friends make electronic music and their albums are fantastic, so yes I guess?
14. I try not to. I do, however, try to understand why someone likes or dislikes an album.
15. I try to limit my 5s to albums that I REALLY love, or whatever I think is the best work of that artist.
16. I revisit it a couple times afterward just to see if I enjoy it more, like you said, if it doesn't catch me on the third listen, I just don't like it.
17. I like both.
18. Yeah, I find it fun hearing the evolution of the artist's talent throughout their career.
19. It varies. Right now I'm on a really huge music kick and want to absorb as much as I can. I haven't rated all the albums I've owned or listened to on sputnik yet, but I plan to rate everything I consume. | someguest
05.06.14 | Album covers with big breasts. That's the first thing I go for in an album. The same could be said for camel toe on the cover. | Trebor.

05.06.14 | ^^^^ (trebor) | Trebor.

05.06.14 | tnemmoc deteled | Riviere
05.06.14 | 1. A unique sound.
2. I appreciate it but I don't need it all the time. Some bands aren't made to riff.
3. Wimp bands. You all know who they are.
4. A few, I get it when it comes to orchestral music or movie soundtracks but generally I like
albums with vocals. When you leave them out you're leaving out an entire facet of music, essentially
another instrument. Maybe some bands do it because they couldn't find a quality singer, but they
should at least be upfront about it if that's the case.
5. 60's. I've listened to plenty of pre-60's music, some of which I like but most of it I can't
pretend that it resonates with me.
6. Sometimes, I've been doing it less lately though because going into an album deaf feels like low
stakes gambling which is fun.
7. No, I'll always allow myself the chance to be surprised, no matter how turned off I am by the
genre.
8. If they feel they need to be, but I do have a penchant for bands who try shit.
9. Only if it's an album I've listened to countless times and rarely does this happen. "Escape" on
Ride the Lightning gets no love from me, that's mostly it.
10. No I don't feel that pressure. The Beatles influenced a lot of artists I like, but their music
aside from 2 songs just does nothing for me.
11. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
12. No.
13. Coil - Love's Secret Domain, had no interest in electronic music whatsoever until I heard that.
14. If I see a well written review with valid points it might make me interested to return to an
album, and on the rare occasion it'll change my mind a little.
15. If the albums deserve that rating, yeah.
16. 1 or 2, it's the albums that left me without feeling either way tend to be the ones I pay close
attention to and return to for multiple listens.
17. I've 5'd Mr. Bungle and Ween, so...
18. I used to do this, but if the batting average is low I'll stop halfway through, sorry Yo La
Tengo.
19. Might range from just a few, to 30+. I'm good at knowing which stuff to return to and
remembering what sucked. | AtomicShane

05.06.14 | Absolutely Shane you know your shit. | lilsteve17
05.06.14 | 1. Passion, something that's a bit different from the norm.
2. I enjoy a good riff, but I regularly listen to songs without.
3. Songs without any clean vocals normally put me right off, unless the instrumental work is exceptional.
4. I own a few instrumental albums, mostly film scores and soundtracks.
5. I tend to stick to most things 20th century, but that's not to say I don't enjoy older music, though normally nothing prior to 1970s (with the exeption of classical)
6. Only if I'm having trouble choosing between a few albums to get.
7. I try to give everything a chance, but often steer clear of R&B, dance and hip-hop.
8. I don't mind, if a band decides to try a different genre I will give it a listen.
9. Normally only interlude tracks if I feel they break my listening flow, though I will skip a track if after a few plays I still don't like it.
10. No, but I will check them out if I'm looking for some other music.
11. Sometimes, though it normally stays the same after a few listens.
12. No.
13. Several.
14. I try not to, but if someone points something out I will notice it a bit more when listening.
15. If they're deserved, then yeah. A good album is a good album regardless.
16. Normally a couple of times to try and get into it.
17. I can enjoy both.
18. Depends on the band, some I will.
19. Normally no more than a couple. I don't like creating a backlog of new music to listen to as I tend to ignore some or focus on one. | Rsetness9
05.06.14 | I dont look for anything specific in my music. I just listen to it and decide if i like it. | Treeman
05.06.14 | im usually looking for:
minimalism
thats really it anyhting minimal is good dont you thik? | NorthernSkylark
05.06.14 | the will to go on | Treeman
05.06.14 | I dont have time to actually answer all of these so ill give you this.
Right off the bat I look for something that makes an impression. The best way to do this for me is usually a strong vocal hook, pretty normal. The next step is usually the mixing of the track and the instrument tones and timbres. If something sounds like shit, it drives me crazy. The music has to have integrity to it also. Nothing's worse than the sound of a band/artist who's forcing it. finally, in most cases, it has to be comfortable. As in the band/artist playing it was comfortable and confident making it.

05.06.14 | @Yak: I don't smoke pot, but I'm glad the brownies worked for you.
Also, I've had a couple of lists where the comments were in the hundreds, but you're right I don't think I ever broke 200.
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1034848&listid=142428 This was close. | zakalwe
05.06.14 | Could be a nutter banging on some roadkills head with a twig or a 700 piece orchestra it doesn't matter it just has to be done with passion, integrity, 'soul' and absolutely no fakery whatsoever. | livewire
05.06.14 | 1. I like musicianship that proves effectiveness, even if it’s really simple, as long as it sounds good and does the job, kudos
2. For music where riffs are a thing, absolutely a good riff is necessary.
3. Bands who try too hard, or lack passion. Musically specific things include repetitive blast beats, over-production in metal, incessant screaming, excessive swearing where it isn’t needed, etc.
4. If the music is done right, the instruments can say even more than words, or at the very least words aren’t needed. I hate vocals in most electronic productions.
5. Typically I go no further back than the 70’s, and 2005 is about as modern as I can get with most things.
6. I like to read reviews on an album while I’m listening to it because some reviews help me see things in an album, and maybe appreciate it more than I would based on my opinion alone. The more stuff I like the better.
7. I think there’s good stuff to be found in any genre somewhere, but gems in genres such as deathcore, metalcore, and country are so few and far between I rarely bother.
8. I like artists to do what they’re good at. If you did well at DM or thrash, and now in the mid 90’s you’re switching to some prog hybrid with your old stuff and it turns out bad…I’m going to be sorely displeased.
9. If I’m occupied with something else (work, school, video games) I’ll listen to a whole album. But if I’m just riding around on the bus or something I’ll only listen to the tracks I really like.
10. No
11. Some stuff grows on me, some take longer than others, but it’s possible
12. Automatically better? No, in fact sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised by what I hear. But as a general rule…
13. A bunch of my most favorite albums aren’t metal despite my predominantly metal taste.
14. Sometimes hearing other people’s take on an album will help me see it in a new light, and I’m open to stuff like that. Again, the more stuff I like, the better
15. Hey, a 5/5 is a 5/5. If your band is capable of putting out a bunch, then way to go
16. It’s always about first impressions for me. I’ll listen once, and based on that I’ll decide if I’m going to bother revisiting anytime soon. Inevitably, I do come back to most things I disregard the first time around.
17. Artists who spice up their music with some tasteful levels of comedic value warrant some level of respect from me anyway. I like it a lot.
18. Abso-fucking-lutely. I’m doing it as I write this all
19. I rush my music collection so much so that I rarely get an opportunity to revisit what I discovered I liked. I get fruition from it

05.06.14 | "#13.Do you think its possible you'll ever love an album that isn't rock/metal? [Already do.]"
what the fuck kind of stupid question is this | StallionMang
05.06.14 | 1. Originality, mood and passion
2. A great riff can definitely give a song that extra push from "good" to "great"
3. Boringness, bad lyrics, songs that sound awkward
4. I can enjoy instrumental stuff as much as anything with vocals
5. If I had to choose a favorite era, I'd say late 80s-to-00's, when music really started to branch out
6. I'll try to educate myself about an album before I listen to it, I rarely put on an album without having any idea how it sounds
7. I try to find a good album/artist in a certain genre before I write that genre off completely (unless it's like crunkcore or some shit)
8. If an artist can pull it off (Beck, Ween, Bungle), then I say be as genre-hopping as you wanna be
9. VERY rarely (songs like Yo La Tengo's "Spec Bebop" are an exception)
10. I don't feel like I HAVE to like em, but I'll check em out
11. I've never gone from completely disliking an album to liking it, but my rating usually changes a point or two after a few more listens
12. I've yet to see a comeback album that matches/surpasses the quality of a band's best original-era work (although Cynic and QotSA come mighty close)
13. Of course
14. I'd rather form my own opinions, but I do enjoy reading reviews and hearing other peoples' perspectives
15. Unless I come across a REALLY fucking good band, I usually try to keep the limit on 5s to 1 or 2 per band
16. If I hate something, I won't listen to it again unless the mood strikes. If I still hate something after 3 listens, then it's probably garbage
17. I find there's a time and place for both silly and serious music, but I generally tend to be Mr. Serious Music Listener
18. If it's consistent enough (I'll usually check Sputnik's average ratings to decide if a band is consistent or not)
19. Around 4 or 5
20. You're all good bro, nice list | Torontonian
06.22.14 | 1.Originality, uniqueness, calibre
2. A good riff never hurt, a song doesn't necessarily need one but it can definetly make a song memorable.
3. If it i don't like it, i don't like it, simple as that.
4.I think lyrics are important and can definetly give an album a concept or purpose, can also be used as an instrument, but i totally dig jazz and stuff with no vocals just as much.
5.I like classical music and jazz but otherwise i usually listen to 1960's-present. anything earlier is out of my comfort zone completely.
6. ya before i listen to something i usually read reviews or comments in order to find the best new thing to listen to. However, when listening i always try to remain objective and not let the bad/good review hinder my analysis in any way.
7. I try not to place stigma on any genre. the only genre i can't get into is rap/hip-hop which i've tried to listen to on numerous occasions and always end up being irritated.
8. I think change can be good or bad. One example of how it can be good is with Porcupine Tree/king crimson, an example of how it can be bad is with Metallica. Who sacrifice quality in order to change genre/style.
9.No, never ever skip tracks. There's always a chance i can really end up enjoying it.
10. nah, but i usually end up loving them anyway. Example: Pink Floyd/King Crimson-Porcupine Tree or Camel-Opeth.
11. it depends, sometimes i can get into an album on the first time and its just love at first listen, if i can't get into an album on the first listen, i'll give it a second try, and i have often found myself rewarded (Example: J Coltrane-A Love Supreme). If i don't like it a second time i'll probably never hear it again.
12.Dont understand question
13.Sure, like plenty
14. Nope. sometimes agree with general consensus, but usually think an album is grossly over/underrated. usually underrated. occasionaly overrated.
15. No, i only give the five to the album i think is the best by particulary band. i'm okay with giving several 4.5's though.
16. If i don't enjoy it at all i'll never revisit. Trout mask Being a good example. Won't pick that shit up for as long as i live.
17. i like all types of music. usually serious, but i like ween a lot (Very silly) and i listen to easy music every once in a while when i'm tired(i'm not against pop music every now and then).
18.yes
19. depends on what i'm listening to. usually between 3 or 7. if its jazz it'll be like 3 if its a genre i'm more comfortable with it'll usually be like 4 or 5. but ya if it's dense i'll take my sweet time
think i'm done. hope mines not to long lol. this is an old thread but whatevs.
