04.20.14 | When I was about 10 years old, I think my favorite band was The Offspring. Then it became Tool, at 12 I was really into Rush, at 13 my favorite was Pink Floyd, at 14 my current favorite is probably Neurosis. I still like all of these bands on my list though. |
Shuyin
04.20.14 | heh, when i was 11 i listened mostly to electronic music. either the prodigy or the rave mission compilation albums
good times |
Rsetness9
04.20.14 | Tool was your favorite band when you were 12? Thats pretty cool but it musta messed you up. |
ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | Exactly, I'm not ashamed of anything I was ever into.
Once I tried The Pretenders haha, I think that was around 12-13, since the leader singer was married to The Kink's lead singer I thought their music would be similar or something. Not really into either band now... |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.20.14 | not too shabs dude |
NordicMindset
04.20.14 | Maybe Year 19 can be Tool... |
FearThyEvil
04.20.14 | Been a fan of Tool myself ever since I was 12. Still my favorite band but overplayed them so much I hardly play em now. |
NordicMindset
04.20.14 | Discovered Tool last year and since then, there's no looking back |
ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | "Maybe Year 19 can be Tool..."
Doubtful. I mean I liked Aenima a lot, but I still only think its a 3.5. |
BMDrummer
04.20.14 | @Rsetness9 I felt like an outcast musically as far back as I can remember. I still don't know any Tool fans in real life (not including my dad) nor any fans of my other favorites (Neurosis, QOTSA, Flaming Lips, etc.) |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.20.14 | dude with a musical progression like this having tool come next would be a regression. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
04.20.14 | u were listening to fuckin zappa when u were 15 u boss |

ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | @LordPots: Yeah dude. I used to make so many Zappa references, it was embarrassing. |
avonbarksdale221
04.20.14 | Cool list dude. For me it was

Radiohead |
Rowan5215
04.20.14 | Linkin Park (lol)

ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | I love Radiohead and Pink Floyd. Both were top 5 for me at one point or another... not currently though. |
Cygnatti
04.20.14 | listened to all time low until about...
wait still do. :] |
TwigTW
04.20.14 | You might have peaked at 15. I hear it's all downhill after Zappa . . .
I had no interest in music until I was 15, when a friend made me listen to Ziggy Stardust. Then we saw him live and I was hooked (on Bowie and music). My other favorites change all the time but my #1 always stays the same: Bowie |
ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | It's funny, my favorites always changed, but even since I first got into The Smashing Pumpkins, Zappa seems to always be #2 no matter what.
|
NordicMindset
04.20.14 | For me it was -
Hinder (fuck me)
3 Doors Down (semi-fuck me)
Linkin Park
Green Day
The Offspring
Rise Against
Tool |
mandan
04.20.14 | Journey, then REO Speedwagon, then Bon Jovi, then Ozric Tentacles, and now I'm not really sure.
I grew up on 80's cheese, what can I say? |
Onirium
04.20.14 | For me it was something like:
The Beatles
Avenged Sevenfold (I hate them so much now)
Nightwish (idk why seriously)
Muse
Dream Theater
Porcupine Tree
Pink Floyd
Yes
Sigur Ros (I don't really have a favorite band anymore, but this is my hardest jam atm) |
scottpilgrim10
04.20.14 | Green Day
Weezer |
ArsMoriendi
04.20.14 | @Onirium: That's fair, maybe I'll be like that one day... MAYBE... |
BMDrummer
04.20.14 | Yeah, I'm similar to Onirium in that respect. I can't narrow it down to one band, Neurosis just happens to be the one I pay the most attention to in the past year. Although, there are loads of other bands I'm currently listening to. |
ScuroFantasma
04.20.14 | For me it was:
Hinder/Nickelback (yeah, whatever, they're not that bad and I knew no better)
Disturbed (still like them but they don't interest me as much, first band I loved)
Slipknot and Stone Sour (same story really, except HOGAB Pt. 1 and 2 kickass)
Korn (still jam them all the time tbh)
And then I got into thrash like Sepultura, Slayer
Found SOAD
I found folk metal like Tyr and Eluveitie
Then Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Carcass, and Children of Bodom
Jam some Prog like Mastodon and some blackened folk like Finntroll
My music taste is weird |
zakalwe

SpiritCrusher2
04.20.14 | for me it was:
old dad's cassettes: Zeppelin, Stones, Santana, Hendrix, Beatles etc.
when I was 14 a friend gave me a cd with Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, I instantly fell in love with metal (N.I.B. was THE song)
few months later I've discovered Metallica and Slayer. soon after I started playing drums and me and my buddies formed a thrash cover band, high school was the bomb :]
after like 1.5 years of exclusively thrashing I discovered Death (death metal became my favourite genre, and it is to this day)
Death lead me to Sputnik, where I've discovered Opeth too, which opened my mind to a lot of different genres of music
then I've discovered Converge (obv, I'm on sputnik now), and it was just in time when I broke up with my gf so yea.. I'm not ashamed to say that 3.5 years after Jane Doe is still my fav album ever. ty Sput!
haven't discovered anything better since then, but I don't really need to. I mean ofc I've found a bunch of music I love, but those bands I've listed were the most important for me and are still my favs, and will probably always be |
zakalwe
04.20.14 | Cool retrospective run down crusher dude. I wish I was in a thrash cover band at school but back in the day I hated metal with a passion it's only as I got older I appreciated it for what it is and I can't help but feel I missed out. |
RyusReborn
04.20.14 | i stole this list idea, been seeing it a lot recently, sweet list ars |
ArsMoriendi
04.21.14 | @RyusReborn: Well you know what they say: "Imitation is the best form of flattery." |

02.27.16 | It would practically be inconceivable for me to have a single favourite band. Both the open-mindedness acquired by growing older and the accessibility of huge amounts of music since I've discovered the Internet have completely re-shaped my music listening habits. I think it's especially the latter; music has evolved in such a way that I'm not obligated to listen to one Dream Theater album every day anymore, that's a beautiful characteristic of our era. If only it didn't result in Spotify making huge profits or the shaping of music as a bland consumption product, but hey |
Alastor
02.27.16 | ah, rthe time of the random rr |
