| My Favorite Things, Pt 1.
Everyone has albums that speak to them on an remotional level, albums they consider "perfect," or rrecords that are just unbelievable from beginning to rend. These are some of mine. | 1 | | Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks
Without a doubt, this is my favorite album. Dylan's lyrics
are on another level, and the sheer emotional weight of
each track is astounding. Every song on this album has
hit me like a sack of bricks on multiple occasions. | 2 | | Ulver Shadows of the Sun
One of the most haunting, atmospheric records I've ever
heard. Sure, Perdition City is brilliant, but Ulver outdid
themselves with this one. It's easy to imagine the
darkened, orange sky on the cover floating over barren
wastes. Beautiful stuff. | 3 | | Opeth Still Life
Devastating riffs? Check. Incredible growls? Check.
Great songwriting? Check. Still Life improved on
everything that My Arms, Your Hearse did so well, and is
the band's crowning achievement. Also, Mikael's death-
rap in Serenity Painted Death. | 4 | | Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti
Many will argue that Zeppelin peaked with II or IV, but
neither of those albums encompass everything Zeppelin
was quite like this expansive, incredible double album
did. It doesn't hurt having In My Time of Dying, either. | 5 | | Radiohead In Rainbows
Kid A. Ok Computer. Both albums are classics, but I'd
have to give a slight edge to In Rainbows. It was my first
exposure to the band, and hit me immediately. It's stayed
in constant rotation since my first listen back in 07. | 6 | | Neurosis Times of Grace
Raining hellfire, screaming winds, and crumbling
buildings never sounded so good. Welcome to the end of
the world. | 7 | | Gazpacho Night
It's so, so easy to get lost in this album lying on in bed
with the lights out. Everything sort of congeals together
into some weird, beautiful dream. One of the best art
rock albums ever recorded. | 8 | | The National High Violet
One of Sputnik's staples for good reason. Berninger is an
incredible frontman, able to hit you exactly where it hurts
the most. Bloodbuzz Ohio, Afraid of Everyone, and
Conversation 16 are devastating. | 9 | | John Coltrane A Love Supreme
Coltrane said he composed this album as a tribute to
god. I don't doubt that at all. It's an utterly brilliant,
impassioned record that demands multiple listens, and
even more listens after that. | 10 | | The Tallest Man on Earth The Wild Hunt
The best modern folk album of the past five years.
Matsson's incredible vocals and stunning guitar work are
perfectly supported by the strength of his songwriting. | |

@Jamie 1 so hard, indeed.

03.26.14 | @JS19 Night is unreal haha, such an amazing album. | mandan
03.26.14 | 4 is awesome. Not a huge fan of 3, but I can understand why many see it as their best, even when I think it isn't.
Need to check 5 soon, Kid A and OKC are the only Radiohead album's I've heard in full. | oneups
03.28.14 | 'although I'd put Alligator and Boxer ahead of High Violet.'
I'd put Boxer ahead maybe but I never got the hype on Alligator. Pertaining to the list, a lot of stuff I'm already a fan of and a few things I'm finding up my alley as well. Rock on, man. | Underflow
03.28.14 | @oneups: Glad to hear it, man! For the record, I'm not quite as keen on Alligator as some seem to be. It's a fantastic album, but not my favorite of theirs. | Underflow
12.11.14 | Should work on the next batch of these since it's been a while. |
