03.23.14 | The lyrics, vocals, and immense riffs they have on all their albums @Thunderkat They've made the biggest impact on my life of any band and certain songs would help get rid of depression if I had it. |

03.23.14 | great list/question
For me it's always been Faith No More. I heard them at an impressionable age, and I never recovered.
Their talent is undeniable and their influence is well documented, but the thing that's effected me more than their music is
their attitude.
They poked holes my perceptions of music, poked fun at pop music, and poked their middle-fingers to the music industry,
made the music they wanted to make, and quit while they were still ahead. |
Thunderkat
03.23.14 | @Dummit, Why is Death your favorite band? How is it set apart from any other metal band? Did it leave an imprint in your life? |

03.23.14 | Ugh I don't have a favorite, it's either between Cult of Luna, ISIS or Mouth of the Architect. It's music that speaks to me more than anything else. In a way, it's part of who I am |
Thunderkat
03.23.14 | @InbredJed;
Patton is such an amazing vocalist, and very diverse too, from faith no more to Mr. Bungle, that guy has talent.
I am generally curious on peoples perception on music, how has it impacted their lives. I love music. For some its a method to escape, for others its a way to jam out their problems, and a mixture of many different reasons for different artists and genres. |

03.23.14 | Thunderkat, if you wish to understand the why and how pertaining to musical impact, I think you should know that it does something to your emotional essence. Sorry for the neckbeardedness, but that's how it goes I guess. |
Rowan5215
03.23.14 | To answer your question more fully, Floyd at their best are just the perfect combination of superb lyricism and superb musicianship for me
Their best songs are the ones where all the band members would come up with an amazing song structure, Waters would write some amazing lyrics which Gilmour and/or Wright would then grace with their amazing vocals
Obviously there are exceptions to that formula which are still amazing but overall that's the winner |

Lowder91bird
03.23.14 | It's tough for me to say who is my favorite band. The first album I ever bought was Van Halen 1 when I was 10 years old. Them and queen were the first 2 bands I got into but I was still exploring my musical taste at that point and didn't really know what I wanted out of music . But about a year later I started really getting into more Metal music and Megadeth became a band I was obsessed with. Megadeth was probably the first band I actually called my favorite band. I remember in my Freshman year of High school I found Blind Guardian then In Flames and then Mastodon. They quickly replaced Megadeth as my favorite bands. Sophomore year I got really deep into black metal. At this time I listened to mostly bands like Burzum, Emperor. But then in 2010 during my Junior year of high school a friend of mine showed me Alcest. I never called them my favorite band but they changed my approach on music. I got more open minded and started listening to more non metal music. The next Artist to really change my approach to music was St Vincent in 2011. I still consider her my favorite Indie artist. The most recent band that had an impact on me was Genesis. They are also the band that has had the most impact on me. I listened to Selling England by the Pound and then Nursery Cryme. Those two albums have changed the way I look at music more than any other album ever has. All of these bands that I have mention are still really special to me except maybe Van Halen even though I still like them. There are a number of bands that I might consider my favorite but If I were forced to choose one it would be Genesis.

They rocked, blew the doors open and connected on a fuckin ridiculous level.

03.23.14 | The last two As Cities Burn records connected lyrically to my maturing process. Their songs were perfectly crafted wish hardcore, rock and progressive that made me want to find more. ACB were doctors of musical chemistry...
But Scale the Summit changed my life. STS abducted my sense of good judgment. hijacked my brain into sending my body on trips I still haven't unpacked from. It's existential, like drowning your clone. |

03.23.14 | Grateful Dead, Beatles, and Pink Floyd kind of shaped my musical outlook as a child, and are still some of my favorite groups to this day. My absolute favorite right now is definitely Neutral Milk Hotel tho. ITAOTS is the most perfect, beautiful fucking thing I think anyone has ever created. I can listen to that album again and again and still be just as affected by it as I was the first time. I'm still piecing together what Mangum is talking about in some of the songs, but the magical thing about NMH is that no matter how out there and nonsensical the music is, it always has some meaning to be deciphered. I could go on and on about this so I'll stop, but yeah, Neutral Milk Hotel is the best band ever. No contest. |

03.23.14 | maudlin of the Well redefined what it meant for an album to be good/great/amazing etc.
It's not the most emotionally charged piece of music I've heard, or the most complex, or the most lyrically poetic or anything. It is however one of the most unique, progressive, and significant albums I've had the pleasure of hearing and will always hold a place near and dear to my heart. |
