| Myrkur's January
The best eight albums I've heard this month. | 8 | | Alcest Shelter
Genre: Shoegaze/ Post Rock; Country: France; Alcest is not Metal anymore, face
it. Is this as good as their earlier albums though? No, but I would have to be deaf
not to enjoy it, its still as beautiful as Shoegazey music can get; Rating: 3.5 | 7 | | Descend Wither
Genre: Progressive Death Metal; Country: Sweden; I did not know this band before,
but Im glad I gave this a spin. Its not Opeth for sure but Im confident these guys
wont stay in the dark much longer, there is enough quality here to ensure great
things in the future; Rating: 3.5 | 6 | | Thee Silver Mount Zion Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light On Everything
Genre: Post Rock; Country: Canada; This album is getting some praise on Sputnik
and it is not hard to see why. Thee Silver Mount Zion have undeniable musical
talent and this is pure enjoyable art. However, it drags a bit sometimes and some
song structure choices were not the best, so thats why its not a 4; Rating: 3.5 | 5 | | Inferi The Path Of Apotheosis
Genre: Technical/ Symphonic Death Metal; Country: United States; Well, this is
modern Tech Death with some Symphonic elements. If you have already heard
bands like Hour Of Penance and Fallujah, this is not much different, but it is definitely
more solid; Rating: 3.5 | 4 | | Dripback Failed Futures
Genre: Hardcore; Country: United Kingdom; Id say this is the best Hardcore Album
Ive heard in a while. Cool vocals, tasty bass, angry drumming and loud riffage make
this an automatic must-hear record for any fan of the genre out there who doesnt
know this band yet; Rating: 3.5 | 3 | | Bohren & Der Club Of Gore Piano Nights
Genre: Dark Ambient/ Jazz; Country: Germany; Bohren & Der Club of Gore just wont
leave their comfort zone, so we are left with another haunting piece containing the
same old formula with some minor changes only. However, it doesnt feel like you have
heard it all before, they still keep it fresh and you will hardly hear the same song
structure twice; Rating: 4.0 | 2 | | Sleepy Sun Maui Tears
Genre: Psychedelic Rock; Country: United States; I dont know if this is a popular
opinion as this doesnt have any reviews yet, but Sleepy Sun are definitely at the
top of their game here and this is overall more enjoyable than any of their past
albums. The atmosphere is very unique, polished and distorted at the same time,
vocals and guitar work were improved and the album length is just perfect for a
great dose of Stoner Rock; Rating: 4.0 | 1 | | Hail Spirit Noir Oi Magoi
Genre: Progressive Rock/ Black Metal; Country: Greece; Inspired songwriting,
bubbling riffs, great drumming, excellent synth textures, just fuck these guys.
Seriously, this is probably the best blend of these completely different two genres
you will ever hear. Blood Guru and The Mermaid are so good that this absolutely
had to be the album of the month; Rating: 4.0 | |
