My Top 20 Dillinger Escape Plan Songs

Since there's been a lot of "x fav songs of *insert band here*", I'm doing one for Dillinger. Hope you guys enjoy my list :).
20The Dillinger Escape Plan
Ire Works

'When Acting as a Wave"/"Weekend Sex Change" - I found it impossible to pick between these so I'm including them both as joint 20th. Wave is for me Dillinger's best transition track, flowing perfectly with 'Nong Eye Gong' while keeping the momentum of the track even though it changes mood which is an prime example of Dillinger's exceptionally talented song writing, especally since due to the massive build up in tension in 'When Acting as a Particle' making this song even more crucial to the album's flow. As for the song itself it's still a highlight even without the reasons stated above due to it's amazing groove yet has little touches such as little song skips to keep it intresting yet all centred on a 8 second guitar progression. As for 'Weekend Sex Change', I see Wave is a better transition although Weekend as a better song on it's own. Chilling soundscapes giving this song a brilliant sence of atmosphere coupled with Pennie's monsterous drum perfomance makes this a must hear.

Ire Works

'Dead as History' - I personally think this song is all Dillinger's experimental and hook based ideas put into one song, hence why I mainly enjoy it so much. From the ominous intro to the great hook to the gradually calm piano and falsetto fade in at the outro (with a sick drum beat before that I will add), this is a treat for the ears. Along with this variety is a sense of restraint in every segment, letting each part to not overstay its welcome unlike the closer of Ire Works 'Mouth of Ghosts' which is what makes this stand out.
18The Dillinger Escape Plan
One of Us Is the Killer

'One of Us Is the Killer' - Short, sweet and with a massive, catchy chorus to boot. This is probably Dillinger's most 'pop' outing yet it is so well done this will leave you to press the replay button multiple times with its memorable and catchy chorus and awesome build up. In addition to this is Greg's outstanding performance, with his mighty falsetto ruling the verses of this song. The improvement that Greg has shown between this and Miss Machine is staggering and this is definitely a highlight of his vocal work.
17The Dillinger Escape Plan
One of Us Is the Killer

'Prancer' - Yet again Greg's massive improvement is shown leaps and bounds here, leading this song with his most angry and aggressive performance yet. Along with this is the band's focus of this being a different flair compared to their vast array of spastic and fast tracks with them focusing on mid tempo, leading guitar lines with their traditional high pitched guitar lines cropping up only as Greg gains in intensity, giving this track more of a ferocious bite.
16The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

'The Running Board' - Containing some of Dillinger's most punchy riffs, this track's dissonant yet straight forward style and absolutely crushing. Making this song make this song however is its chilling breakdown at 0:53. After that point the songs transformed into a dark, brooding monster until eventually returning into its punchy riffs. Outstanding track.
15The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

'Good Neighbor' - This song is fucking MASSIVE. For 2 minute and 30 seconds this song does nothing but pummel your ears into submission with its bouncy riffs and a spectacular drum performance by Rymer, rivalling Weekend Sex Change for Dillinger's best drum track. Add this sledgehammer of a song with the quick break at 1:13, the very audible bass throughout and the final chants of "SUCICIDE!!!" at the end of the song and you have a impeccable performance of sonic fury.
14The Dillinger Escape Plan
Irony Is a Dead Scene

'Hollywood Squares' - Dat riff at 1:44...DAT RIFF AT 1:44! If the second half of this song was as perfect as the first half this would be number 2 on this list.
13The Dillinger Escape Plan
Ire Works

'Black Bubblegum' - I still don't know exactly why I find this song so odd, but I love it. Undeniably quirky and catchy, this song has got incredible replay value with its FNM influenced style and awesome, memorable chorus yet it constantly getting better throughout time as the verses warrant and demand more of your attention. All of this and the effect of being after the firestorms 'Fix Your Face' and 'Lurch' makes this a knockout
12The Dillinger Escape Plan
Ire Works

Milk Lizard - Pretty much the same reasons why I love 'Black Bubblegum' although I believe this is superior is because the hook is in my opinion is Dillinger's best and the outro is awesome with it's double bass and great vocal performance while Black just ends with a rehash of the chorus.
11The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

'Widower' - Despite the fact I believe the main segment of the song (1:40 - 4:03) overstays its welcome and the rehashing of the main hook at the end being unnecessary, the elegant intro, Greg's vocal performance, the build up to 4:32 and the gorgerous releace of tension at 4:32 onwards is something that needs to be heard to be believed. Out of all of Dillinger's softer songs, this is their most powerful, ear pleasing and passionate.
10The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

'Parasitic Twins' - Despite the praise I gave Widower, due to its flaws and the overwhelming positives of this I rank this as Dillinger's finest hour of their softer songs. Unlike their other softer songs, this is far more less hook based and slower paced. This ultimately works as the song's main appeal since the pacing is flawless. Due to this one part never overstays its welcome, everything transitions perfectly with everything appears at the right time to compliment its previous segment. Futhermore its sense of restraint and NIN influences gives this a far more abstract feel, with nothing being overbearing yet the song is lush and gleaming with life.
9The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

'Destro's Secret' - Despite this fact the one of the main reasons why I love Dillinger is their willingness to experiment, this is where my preference starts to show. In my opinion their best material lies in Dillinger's main trait; their brilliant, intense and unrelenting Mathcore and nowhere is that more abound than their masterpiece Calculating Infinity. 'Destro's Secret' was a track I previously thought as a throwaway track, that it's just filler and that I found myself just waiting for 'The Running Board' although a year and a half later, I see it as a highlight on the album. Minus '*#..' and 'Weekend Sex Change', this is the least spastic song on the album although is so intense and gripping you won't care. From the first note the song processed to bludgeon you with its gripping riff and desperate vocal performance with it. The dryness of the production helps this song rather than hinders it (as with every song on the album), giving it a raw sound enhancing its aggression. The song carries you through leaps and bounds until you get you the legendary "Sun-Drippped Devil' segment which is pure insanity, making this song unforgettable in the process.
8The Dillinger Escape Plan
Option Paralysis

'Room Full of Eyes' - The highlight of a superb album, everything here is top notch. As Calucating Infinity's production gives it a sense of tension and raw aggression, Option Paralysis' gives a sense of overwhelming force and this track is nothing but that giving the brilliant stop/start riffs of this songs a vicious yet blunt force of aggression. Despite this, this track is especially varied with an awesome groove at 0:48 breaking up the abrasive intro and the falsetto of Greg to the massive, slow ending.
7The Dillinger Escape Plan
Ire Works

'Lurch' - The best of Calcuating Infinity and Option Paralysis meet on this song in 2 minutes of brillance. The spastic riffs, shrill chords and unmatched intensity of Calc with the bombast and energy of Option Paralysis meet, mixing in a whirlwind of fury finishing as quickly as it began. Out of every Dillinger song I say this changes the most and feels the most out of control although its perfect length and masterful song writing making every part flow brilliantly and yet be memorable makes this one of Dillinger's best.
6The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

'Sugar Coated Sour' - DID I SUTTER! DID I SUTTER! DID I SUTTER? This needs no introduction.
5The Dillinger Escape Plan
Ire Works

'Fix Your Face' - This is titanical in every sense, leaving even more of an impact than Lurch. What separates this from the rest is that every idea they've brought to the table through their more spastic tracks are brought here and performed to its nigh peak. The titanical chord progressions, the playful jazzy breakdown, the stop start riffs, the slow and burning ending...it's all here.
4The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

'43% Burnt' - Just listen the main riff...'nuff said.
3The Dillinger Escape Plan
One of Us Is the Killer

'When I Lost My Bet' - From the first note, you know even for Dillinger this is going to be special. The aggression of Prancer is carried over to this although it further enhanced and magnified by Dillinger's spastic style. Even though Dillinger have done many aggressive songs, yet again they manage to make this memorable from the pack with its chord/vocal sync in the intro, the raw bile in Greg's performance and the monstrous drum performance. 'One of Us Is the Killer' generally lacks the cohesiveness and memorable licks that make their aggressive or mid paced songs to make it superb although this shines through the pack the mix of Greg's newly found aggression of Calculating Infinity levels of spastic riffage refined with Dillinger's new style to make not only the standout track of 'One of Us Is the Killer', but a standout of their entire career.
2The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

'Clip the Apex...Accept Instruction' - In my opinion, this is Dillinger's most underrated song ever. Despite 43% Burnt's legendary riff, Sugar Coated Sour's intro and Weekend Sex Change's drum performance; the pure vicious and unrelenting malice of Clip is to me the true highlight of Calculating Infinity. The shill chords here hit harder than any Dillinger songs, like daggers to the ears and it almost never stops. The song's build up gets more and more uncontrollable until it reaches a climax at 1:24 where it climaxes to what I can only describe as the line between controlled madness and random noise until the song breaks with Dimtri letting out a bone chilling scream. From that point the assault continues until the build of noise reaches its peak, eventually reaching almost static noise. The shear overwhelming fury and distortion of this song is awe inspiring, only topped by...
1The Dillinger Escape Plan
Irony Is a Dead Scene

'When Good Dogs Do Bad Things' - The intro riffs harder than Good Neighbor, the screams are better then any of Greg's, it's more relentless than 'Clip the Apex...Accept Instruction' and the breakdown is more tense then 'The Running Board's, this is Dillinger's ultimate shining star, perfectly blending pure madness with Patton's more ominous style yet being the perfect counterpart to Dillinger's array of controlled madness. Unfortunately Dillinger will never again (despite their other songs being incredible) reach this unmatched level of spastic riffs, well paced frantic song writing and thanks to Mike Patton, calculated insanity again. It makes me wonder what would be Dillinger be like today if Mike Patton stayed in Dillinger full time.
