| Typhoner's 2013: Eps
Figured it would be cool if I also made end-of-the-year lists. So for EPs: I didn't listen to too many EPs this year, but the ones I liked most are here, very loosely ranked and limited to one EP per artist. | 20 | | Ital Tek Control
Yeah, so that footwork thingie wore off quick. Still, I like Ital Tek's approach best, I guess. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOByRYKikyQ | 19 | | Synth Sense Fragments From an Infinite Sequence
Droning, industrial-tingled techno - https://soundcloud.com/auxiliarylabel/synth-sense-fragments-from-an | 18 | | Amit Human Warfare/No Mercy
DnB - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5MP-ZDYpTM | 17 | | Submotion Orchestra 1968
Maybe not as good as Finest Hour, but we were really spoiled, weren't we? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X999FSFrwCg | 16 | | Chvrches Recover
Yeah, "Recover" is on their album too, but why not "Now is Not The Time"??? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIHUyIW0gfo | 15 | | Biome Spawned
Dubstep meets techno - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXcj5xQFKLo | 14 | | Phon.o Schn33/Go
Swingin' techno - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPFNjV20sao | 13 | | Locked Groove Waves/Shirts Off
Playful, fun house bangers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st7Go7p7SQw | 12 | | Beneath Duty/Texers
garage - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuSfWkxDzcg | 11 | | Method One Moonlight Mile
Dreamy ambient/IDM, also described as "Sci-Fi nostalgia", which is quite apt. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymr4jyQQDp8 | 10 | | Silvie Loto Solstice
Quite sexy dubbed out techno - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEUTLUJbdHA | 9 | | A Made Up Sound After Hours/What Preset
Very unsettling dubby techno just like his other EP this year: Ahead/Endgame is also recommended but entirely different, with its frantic rhythms. - After Hours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvxdOTnVBS8 - Ahead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8GOR90999g | 8 | | Kryptic Minds Namaste
If anyone knows how to nail that dark dubstep sound... - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FtL5ZRQAEE | 7 | | ASC Programme 02
Yep, ASC yet again released loads of awesome stuff, now more techno based - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0b41p6EzIc | 6 | | Veil Records Veil/Unveil Issue Two
Veil (a label run by ASC) released two multi-artist EPs this year, and this is the better one, showcasing the breadth of their genre-defying sound. However, the other release has the best track: Vaccine's "Irradiate" - (no link wtf) | 5 | | Laurel Halo Behind the Green Door
Laurel returns to techno to produce hot bangers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENVeEBbGk00 | 4 | | Rrose Monad XVI
very unsettling but rather fantastic techno/soundscapes - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHSmaxflVas | 3 | | Klatu Alchemy
I might like this more than Mutual, very immersive dubstep. - http://klatu.bandcamp.com/album/alchemy-ep | 2 | | Burial Rival Dealer
Oh, this guy again - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd3Ch53PxBs | 1 | | ASC Machine Love
Oh, this guy again[2]. Figured these are all collabs, so it doesn't *really* count as an ASC EP, right? Oh, and it's awesome. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLIKEOthYgc | |
Typhoner
01.01.14 | Nothing too shocking here, but maybe some find a release they'll enjoy | Eloriaz
01.02.14 | I heard some bits from #3 and it sounded promising.
Sweet list, looking forward to your top albums. Keep doing descriptions too ;) | PunchforPunch
01.02.14 | gr8 list dude | Brostep
01.02.14 | Should really give Laurel Halo another chance soon. Sweet list | Typhoner
01.02.14 | thanks!
"Keep doing descriptions too ;)"
damn, I knew it was bad to create expectation patterns :-) | ShitsofRain
01.02.14 | i would put some of them on my ep list as well | SgtPepper
01.02.14 | I still haven't listened to 17. I need to get on that. | clercqie
01.02.14 | Beneath is killing it lately. NoSymbols003 was ace as well.
Very nice list as usual. Checking out Klatu and Rrose first of the ones I haven't heard.
| Typhoner
01.02.14 | woo, feature! didn't expect that
@SgtPepper: if you liked their previous stuff, you'll enjoy it
@clercqie: read about that new Beneath, haven't heard though. Yeah, Klatu and Rrose are pretty great, especially Rrose clicked hard recently | ShitsofRain
01.02.14 | and you should get on that Kaiju stuff | Keyblade
01.02.14 | 1 will always be 1. Sweet list bro | ShitsofRain
01.02.14 | 1 is 1 | hiyabootchie
01.02.14 | While 1 is good I actually thought 7 and "01" were a tad bit better.. | Typhoner
01.02.14 | thanks!
@hiyabootchie: I can see that (and those are great, too) but the first tracks of machine love kill it so hard it's not even serious | ShitsofRain
01.02.14 | agreed hard | hiyabootchie
01.02.14 | I actually like the last track, Blue Sun the best on Machine Love. The third song, Sonder, kind of kills it for me as it is not as good as the others. | TMobotron
01.03.14 | Damn I need to get 9 and 14. Sweet list. | ShitsofRain
01.03.14 | 14 before 9 | Typhoner
01.03.14 | I like all tracks on Machine Love (obviously) but in particular Synkro ones as they hark back to (but are better than) the previous ASC/Synkro collab but also at same time that ASC/Ulrich Schnauss EP, which I particularly enjoyed. There's something about Sam KDC tracks that bugs me in a way, although is recent output on those Veil EPs is rather good.
And yes, both 9 and 14 are great (in quite a different way, though) |
