12.28.13 | I still have to study this matter meticulously. Animals is their most entertaining release, The Dark Side Of The Moon being their most atmospheric and Wish You Were Here their most emotional. |

JamieTwort
12.28.13 | Reverse order agreed. |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | Jamie dude the solos in Time and Have a Cigar are incredible, my favorite of Gilmour's by far
Animals just has consistently good ones throughout |

JamieTwort
12.28.13 | Solos in Dogs >>> solos in Time and Have a Cigar.
I was talking more overall anyway. |
JamieTwort
12.28.13 | My favourite Gilmour solos are Dogs (third solo), Comfortaly Numb (second solo) and The Fletcher Memorial Home. |
Ryus
12.28.13 | 1
The end |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | Comfortably Numb solo is amazing in context to the album yeah, I always forget about that one. But the solos in Dogs are less of the spotlight to me and just kind of links to the different passages. They're great but Time's is just so dense and powerful, and Have a Cigar he just lets out and shreds over those gorgeous bass lines and synths and its jaw-dropping |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | Honestly might even like the outro solo in Sheep a bit more than any of the ones in Dogs |
JamieTwort
12.28.13 | Seriously? That third solo takes the spotlight and then some. Best moment on the album imo, and that's saying something.
Have a Cigar probably wouldn't even make my top 20 Gilmour solos, it's great but it doesn't have as much emotion as a lot of
his other solos. |
CK
12.28.13 | Dark Side |
YakNips
12.28.13 | Ummagumma |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | fair enough, Have A Cigar is more of a satire then an emotional song and I think the solo is the icing on the cake right before the title track, and I'm definitely not discrediting anything from Dogs cause that song is perfect.
Gilmour is just a God on his instrument and any of his solos would be like the centerpiece of another band's album |

12.28.13 | well WYWH for me it already won Floyd madness back when so |
musicalmedicine
12.28.13 | Btw, nice joke, Lloyd, but I really did study the matter. You know, it's really hard, these three albums are consistent, well-crafted, filler-less (well, maybe except for the Pigs On The Wing, in Animals), successful, magnificent and important achievements in the history of music. It's pretty hard to label a Floyd album as "Best Floyd Album" without taking a little time to think about the differences between these three albums. |
musicalmedicine
12.28.13 | DSOTM 8, WYWH 5, Animals 7. |
TheSpaceMan

JamieTwort
12.28.13 | "filler-less (well, maybe except for the Pigs On The Wing, in Animals)"
What? The two Pigs on the Wing tracks are essential to the overall feel of the album. They provide the prefect intro and outro to the album and make the whole thing feel that little bit more cohesive.
If there's any filler on any of these albums it's On the Run from Darkside. |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | Money is a filler song
There I said it. Dark Side is still king |
DominionMM1
12.28.13 | on the run ain't filler my friend. it's a perfect segue. plus it's great when you're under the influence of various chemicals or substances. |
JamieTwort
12.28.13 | It's closer to filler than Pigs on the Wing at least. |
TheSpaceMan
12.28.13 | On The Run is just a little unnecessary in its place, cause Time already has an intro in its song, but its still a great interlude and I don't have any complaints with it |

12.29.13 | Nothing on dark side is "filler".... Nothing! You just dont know how to floyd properly.
(But in all seriousness, i do think it's a thrilling track and i like it. But the only reason for that is because i'm one of those nerds who did the 'dark side of the rainbow' thing.) Watch it synched with dorothy falling from the fence, you'll learn to appreciate it more. |

12.29.13 | SgtPepper is so right. But the Pigs On The Wing are pretty much the little filler on Animals. It flows way better without them and they truly were completely unecessary. And if necessary for something, then it is to show how selfish Roger Waters was and how he took over everything Pink Floyd was, because those two songs were about his girlfriend (they weren't even part of the Animals concept).
The Wall is actually one of my least favorite Floyd albums. Classic, indeed, it was the most successful double-album since The White Album. But it's so full of filler and overall a boring album because of it's ridiculously long run time.
It's 11 for Dark Side, 8 for WYWH and 10 for Animals right now. |
zakalwe
12.29.13 | In the greater scheme of things and taking everything into account, Darkside. |
JamieTwort
12.29.13 | "It flows way better without them and they truly were completely unecessary"
No it doesn't. If you were to take them out I would actually like the album a little less as it would feel more like three individual pieces. Having that reprise of the intro at the end ties the whole thing together musically. |
TwigTW
12.29.13 | The Dark side of the Moon is the best of all time, even though my favorite today is Wish You Were Here (tomorrow it will be Animals--changes all the time). |
musicalmedicine
12.29.13 | Jamie, in that perspective I totally get your point. But in the perspective that the songs do not belong to the album concept and that Dogs, Pigs and Sheep combined are perhaps the most powerful three-punch combination in music history, well things change a little. I totally see where you come from, dude. |
Artuma
12.29.13 | wywh but wtf why isn't the wall here |

JamieTwort
12.30.13 | Ah, well definitely check it out dude. It took about 10 or more listens before I began to fully appreciate it so I encourage you to give it time to grow when you do check it out. It's such a dark, emotional album. |

12.30.13 | I dunno guys. I think it gets slack because it's below the bar set by their classics, you can't argue with that.
It is a solod album, but it should have been much better imo. |
evilford
12.30.13 | yeah but you can't hold your expectation of all of their albums to the level of dark side, animals and wywh
honestly there's not much I can gripe about as far as tfc goes |
evilford
12.30.13 | I'm with Jamie, I was lost on the album for at least 5 listens but I stuck with it for some reason. eventually the brilliance in the writing hit me.
I'm sure it's not for everyone but (Waters solo album or not, I don't fuckin care) Roger poured so much emotion and soul into it, it grabs me by the heart every time I listen to it |

12.30.13 | "I dunno guys. I think it gets slack because it's below the bar set by their classics, you can't argue with that.

I'm not sure I agree with you there. I find it to be much better than The Wall which is often heralded as one of their classics (not so often on Sput but I mean generally). Plus, due to the emotional connection I have to it (thanks to the emotion Roger put into it, as ford mentioned), I find that I enjoy it almost as much as some of their 'classics'. |
JamieTwort
12.30.13 | Looking at it from a more objective point of you though TFC doesn't rival the big 4 (these three + Meddle). |
