| Top Ten Rock/Metal Bands Of All Time
In my opinion, these are the top ten bands of all time. You don't have to agree with me, but I love the music I love. | 1 | Metallica
Metallica hasn't stuck with the sound they started out with, but they've done much better over the years than many of the thrash metal bands who have. Metallica perfected the thrash metal sound with their first three albums, and showed they can pull off almost everything else with every album they released since. | 2 | John Mellencamp
Mellencamp had a rough start with his first albums, but has grown into one of the greatest singer, songer writers of all time. Over the years he's released hits like "Scarecrow", "Small Town" and "Jack & Diane", and has still after 30 years in the buisness put out amazing songs like "Our Country", and "Ghost Towns Along The Highway". | 3 | Bob Seger
Bob Seger is yet another amazing singer, songwriter who also had a rough start. But again, over the years he grew into a classic with songs like "Turn The Page", "Beautiful Loser", and "Like A Rock". | 4 | Megadeth
Megadeth is another classic band of thrash metal who has solidified itself as a legend in the music industry. Though Megadeth had some rough years in the 90s, they have come back with the last few albums "Playing for Blood" as one of their recent songs so beautifully puts it. | 5 | Pillar
Though Pillar isn't a very old band, they are dear to my heart. In my opinion no Christian bands out there can match them...and no band has helped me so much over the years as much as these guys have. Musically they are a band that has something most other rock bands don't. Something that grabs the most attention is their drummer and bass player. Since Lester their drummer came on the scene in "Where Do They Go From Here" they've grown to a much more quality band. | 6 | Nickelback
Though many people absolutely hate Nickelback, more people love them. You can argue how mainstream they are, but they have written some excellent songs that are fun to sing along with. Chad Kroeger is an amazing lead singer, and personally my favorite singer of all time. | 7 | Collective Soul
Though I don't like all of their albums...this is another band dear to my heart. I grew up listening to my mother play their self titled album almost daily when she drove me to school. That is still my favorite album to this day. Ed Roland has an amazing voice, making them also an incredible band to see live. | 8 | Eric Clapton
He did excellent work with the band Cream, as well as a solo artist. Clapton is an awesome guitarist, and no list would be complete without him. | 9 | The Guess Who
It's hard to argue with The Guess Who, who put out classics like "No Time", "American Woman", and "Hand Me Down World". | 10 | Godsmack
Godsmack is another band that can get a lot of hate...but also gets a lot of love. They are the only true band to do an excellent job mating the sounds of hard rock, and tribal drumming. Godsmack has put out amazing classics like "Voodoo", "Serenity", "I Stand Alone" and even amazing ballads like "Hollow", and "One Rainy Day". | |

03.15.08 | Nickelback is SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD | Mikesn
03.15.08 | collective soul rules | LifeInABox

03.15.08 | metallica and megadeth 'were' good, the rest is pretty meh | botb
03.15.08 | Never thought I'd see 4, 3, and 6 on the same list. o_O | botb
03.15.08 | but eric clapton owns. he's a legend. | Jim
03.15.08 | good heavens nickelback no. collective soul are pretty terrible in my opinion. mellencamp annoys me no end. must be an american thing.
that said metallica and clapton are decent enough. | BrokenChains
03.15.08 | I'd like to note that the list reflects who I think has influenced their genre of music the most in good ways. This isn't a battle over who writes the most difficult songs. Yes, many bands are sellouts who write too easy of songs...but sometimes a simply song is the best song, they all have their place. | masscows
03.15.08 | The fact that you'd put Godsmack and Nickelback on this based on that criteria baffles me. I might have taken this seriously if you'd replaced those two with Alice in Chains and Nirvana, respectively.
I also find it odd that you don't have Led Zeppelin or The Beatles on the list, since they're arguably the two most important rock bands of all time... | BrokenChains
03.15.08 | The Beatles didn't help rock along, they're more like the original pop band. Besides, I hate the beatles with a passion. The Rolling Stones would've made more sense to put on this list, at least they're more diverse.
I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin, mainly due to the vocals. Notice that every band on my list has a male singer, who doesn't exactly have a high vocal range most of the time. Even though Dave Mustaine, and Ed Roland can pull off a higher range, I tend not to like it.

03.15.08 | So this is more of a favorites list than an "importance" one... | Altmer
03.15.08 | fails | UmphreysHead
03.15.08 | Whoever said that the Beatles didn't influence anything (as you put it, they didn't help rock along) then you sir are an idiot. | beans
03.15.08 | i laughed so hard when i saw 6 | 8ight8all
03.15.08 | Godsmack? Really? | BrokenChains
03.16.08 | The Beatles are the original pop band...not rock. Elvis is much more a rocker than the Beatles, as are the stones. | SVIIB
01.21.09 | Why is Metallica always at the top? I like them and all, but they really aren't that great.. I like Collective Soul though. | zrosschristian
02.14.09 | 7 is great, 1 is good.
Rest of the list fails. |
