Anime: Summer 2013

list of summer stuff I watched and how I like it. I'm too lazy to do rdescriptions and all that this time so look it up if it looks interesting to you ror ask
1Meishi Smile
mYSTERIOUS sUMMER vACATION

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S: Great to have another season of Railgun. It was
awesome to see the Sisters' arc from Index S1 from Misaka's perspective, which
also made things even more emotional (Misaka 9982 ;______;). While the last arc
was kind of lame, it made up for it with a classic Railgun climax with literally
everyone you know just beating the shit out of everything (seeing the two swim
team girls combine their powers to make that water skateboard thing was tight as
shit) and ending with everything getting blown up while they recycle the cheesy
trance based OPs. It's so cliche but felt SO GOOD! Favorite thing of the season,
although it's not as good as S1 which is a 10/10 for me.
2Smoke Room
Vol. 1

Monogatari S2: While we're only halfway through S2 of SHAFT's brilliant adaptation
of Nisio Isin's Monogatari novels, it continues to be one of my favorite series ever.
With everyone back and even more crazy oddity mysterious, gorgeous animation,
and abundance of Japanese puns, the new season does not disappoint. I'm really
digging Otorimonogatari / Nadeko Medusa right now, really great to see my
favorite girl back in the spotlight for once, now with some crazy dark shit going on.
My only complaint is they're trying to cram full novels into 3-5 episode arcs, so
they're a bit rushed and leave some stuff out, but all in all it's still really awesome.
3Tim Hecker
Virgins

The World God Only Knows III: wow, was I excited when S3 for TWGOK got
announced, and that it was adapting my favorite arc in the manga. S3 changes
TWGOK's standard formula and adds actual danger and suspense to the mix, as
Keima tries to track down his past conquests to find the goddesses necessary to
stop Vintage from resurrecting Old Hell. With some of my favorite female leads
back in the spotlight (Haqua, Tenri, and Ayumi, along with anime newcomer Yui),
it's a buttload of fun that kept a huge smile on my face all twelve episodes long.
4Oneohtrix Point Never
R Plus Seven

Servant x Service: another great Karino Takatsu (mangaka of
Working!!/Wagnaria!!) adaptation. Really great work based seinen / slice of life
comedy that was just really enjoyable. While nothing terribly special, it was
constantly cute and funny and every character in its ensemble was great, as well
was the chemistry between everyone in the public service division. Also Lucy is the
cutest new girl of the year like goddamn bruh.
5Slime Girls
Vacation Wasteland

Love Lab: it was cute and really funny but I didn't get around to finishing it.
6Lorde
Pure Heroine

Watamote: Poor Tomoko, the little shit awkward manifestation of every socially
awkward moment you've ever experienced that you hate to love. Watch her just
trip through twelve episodes worth of secondhand embarrassment as she fails to do
anything. Having her best friend voiced by Kana Hanazawa was a big plus though. I
ended it on episode 11 though cause at least that way it ended on a happy note.
7Boards of Canada
Geogaddi

Gatachaman Crowds: I came into Crowds late in the game, after hearing huge
amounts of hype around it. It was a fine watch, plenty of cool superhero action,
fun, and at times lived up to its Gatchaman name. However, the ending was total
dogshit and only barely managed to not completely ruin the series for me. Also, in
retrospect, it really wasn't very good overall, aside from being pretty and tricking
you into thinking actual plot development was taking place. Utsutsu was so cute but
goddamn she didn't do shit all season, but then again, neither did anyone else.
8Forest Swords
Engravings

Uchouten Kazoku: Another show I picked up do to hype. After watching and
enjoying the first few episodes, I kind of forgot about it and don't really feel like
finishing it.
9Gold Panda
Lucky Shiner

Shingeki no Kyojin: we all know it sucks but shit I watch it anyway. Although as it
progressed the negative aspects of the show began to far outweigh the positives.
Can I just read/watch a spinoff about Historia, Ymir, and Sasha?? Please? They're
the only people I give even the littlest shit about. Okay I guess Levi and Hanji are
fine too.
10Ling Tosite Sigure
just A moment

Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C?-bu: wow GAINAX you fucking suck now. K-ON! with
guns? Guys I'll give you the benefit of the doubt with Medaka Box because even
though it was shit it was still Medaka Box so I loved it, but really now?? RIP
GAINAX, long live Trigger
11Supercell
Supercell

Free!: dropped like two episodes in, didn't care. Future Yui and Gou were not
enough to hold my attention for twelve episodes.
12Midori
Second

Danganronpa: terrible, and it even wasn't good just to see people from the game
animated because the animation was fucking terrible. They left out any shred of
character development / every fun part of the game. God that was terrible. I guess
seeing Kirigiri with the ramen on her head and seeing Junko do a Dio pose was
worth it though.
13Livetune
Tell Your World

Choujigen Game Neptune: The Animation: God-awful, just like the game. Not even
the great animation and abundance of cute girls could do it for me. Sorry Mike
14Melt Banana
Fetch

Blood Lad: I dropped four episodes in because I just couldn't care.
15Internet Club
The Sharper Image

Ro-Kyu-Bu! SS / Senki Zesshou Symphogear G / Gin no Saji: didn't get around to
(I like little girls playing basketball as much as the next guy, I couldn't make it
through Symphogear S1 despite being gorgeous and I just didn't get to Silver
Spoon).
