Jac's Fav Dm Vocalists

Just because I can, I decided to rank my all-time favourite death metal vocalists. Feel free to post yours as well.
10Cryptopsy
Blasphemy Made Flesh

Lord Worm: I would place this guy higher if it wasn't his dramatic decline in the 2000s, but if that 35 second scream in "Open Face Surgery" doesn't warrant a place in the death metal hall of fame, I don't know what does.
9Cattle Decapitation
Monolith of Inhumanity

Travis Ryan: Say all you want about this band, you can't deny this man's vocal chops. I was initially skeptical of his ridiculously diverse range of styles, particularly his "cleans" but after seeing them live, all skepticism was thrown out the window, this man simply isn't human.
8Rippikoulu
Musta Seremonia

Anssi Kartela: My knowledge of this man's abilities doesn't extend beyond two demos, but he's in my top 10. While he doesn't exactly have the best range, his ultra-gutteral growls on Musta Seremonia are some of the most evil, stomach- churning vocals I've heard on any metal record.
7Psycroptic
The Scepter of the Ancients

Matthew Chalk: One of the most diverse death metal vocalists in the world, with an insane range and lightning quick delivery. Best of all, his performances are largely devoid of modern studio trickery, solidifying his place as one of the best contemporary vocalists in death metal.
6Death
The Sound of Perseverance

Chuck Schuldiner: The list wouldn't be complete without the man himself, Chuck. From the throaty growls of Scream Bloody Gore to the high-pitched rasps of The Sound of Perseverance, Chuck's performances (irrespective of style) were always top notch.
5Gorguts
The Erosion of Sanity

Luc Lemay: His more conventional but still menacing performances on Gorguts' first two albums speak for themselves, but those coupled with the tortured wailing of their most recent three (particularly Obscura) earn this man a place in my all time favourites.
4Demilich
Nespithe

Antti Boman: Definitely the most unique DM vocalist I've ever heard. Still to this day, nobody has come close to emulating that legendary performance on Nespithe, akin to somebody gurgling drying cement.
3Immolation
Close to a World Below

Ross Dolan: Ross Dolan's signature throaty growl is one of the most evil sounding in death metal, he's also delivered some of the best lyrics in the genre. "I hailed Mary..."
2Pestilence
Consuming Impulse

Martin van Drunen: No disrespect to the other members of Asphyx and Pestilence, but van Drunen's vox are what made their musical output that much better. Seldom have I heard a DM vocalist who sounds quite so psychotic.
1Opeth
Ghost Reveries

Mikael Akerfeldt: While Opeth aren't strictly a death metal band, something about the way this man's growls and screams resonate hits me harder than anybody else. To cap it off, his harsh vox are contrasted by a beautiful clean voice, and he pulls off both styles with such authenticity that it's impossible not to give this man the #1 spot.
