07.17.13 | I think I was a little too cocky with my "Price is no object" comment. Anything below $ 250 |

07.17.13 | i recommend the akg k550's, i have a pair of those and they're fantastic, dcalderon. below $250 too. |

07.18.13 | Sennheiser HD 202's are really great for the price, on amazon they're only around $20. Over the past two years or so I've only gone through two pairs. The only problem is the 10 foot cord, they have a little thing to wrap the cord around but it is still a bit annoying if you are active. |

07.18.13 | why does everyone say sennheisers
I have jvc ha s500s right now and they're brilliant. Only cost £30 but they're better than the £95 ones I had before and I've heard a lot of people saying that a few years ago you'd've had to have paid hundreds to get sound quality this good |
anarchistfish
07.18.13 | ath-m50 are meant to be really good as well. never seen a single pair of headphones get so much hype. but they cost quite a bit more |
ABjordanMM
07.18.13 | AKG k240's are best for the price for sure. |
jdennis31
07.18.13 | @fish. think they've just been winning a lot of users choice awards for best headphones, so the hype train got a lot of steam from that. I'm sure there are cheaper options out there, but music has never sounded better than out these m50s |

07.18.13 | yeah no i doubt that |

07.18.13 | I have Shure-215s. They're earbuds that I got for work and cost me about $130. The high-end is so intense that they ruined Pig Destroyer for me for a while. |

07.18.13 | [EDIT: Didn't see that your price limit was $250]
Under $250 is IEM range, and for that price you have a few choices that stand above the rest:
VSonic GR07: Slightly warm, but well-balanced. Very well-rounded sound.
HiFiMan RE-272: Tonally neutral, with a slight upperimid/lower-treble dip. Very smooth and clean-
sounding.
Fischer Audio DBA-02: Treble-centric sound. Fantastic treble performance, slightly "thin" or "cold"
in nature. Very detailed.
There are a few others that sound good within that price, but these three are the best of their
respective sound-signature.
As for some of the other suggestions:
Grados: Avoid. Horribly non-linear response with significant ringing and distortion artifacts.
Downright painful to listen to.
Audio Technica ATH-M50: A nice set of cans, but inferior to all three I listed. Closed cans in
general are pretty "meh."
AKG K550: Lots of ringing. Very plasticky and artificial-sounding. Piercing treble.
All other suggestions aren't really even worth looking into.
If you want suggestions for full-sized cans I can do that too.

07.18.13 | I happen to be selling a pair of House of Marley 'Exodus' headphones. I've barely used them as I have another two pairs (both House of Marley) the sound quality's great and they look cool too. Was going to put them on Ebay tomorrow as I'm needing money for moving to University, but they're yours for £30 if you're interested. I'll even chuck in a 2 year warranty with them. |

07.18.13 | m50s are great for a lower price range, seriously. i might buy a pair for listening to outside of home. when i'm at my computer i use my beyerdynamic dt880s which are goddamn magical. you'll need an amp / usb dac / sound card if you're going to buy really good headphones but fuck, it makes the experience so much better. listening to good flac rips of stuff with a great setup is UNGH. makes it so much harder to go back to listening to music without. |
JumpTheF**kUp
07.18.13 | listening to tannhauser / derive right now OH YEAH |
JumpTheF**kUp
07.18.13 | based on your ratings i'd definitely recommend investing in a really quality pair of opens man (the three that everyone jocks are the dt880s, hd600s or the k702s). i was going to buy a cheaper pair too but i just kept reading that it was worth just saving up your money until you could afford the best and so far i haven't regretted spending the money on mine one bit. get yourself a soundcard (the asus xonar dg is < $50 so it's super affordable) and you should be sweet.
tl;dr spend more NO REGRETS |

07.18.13 | Don't pay attention to the ratings, I don't really update then that much |

I heard about these ones a lot. In my price range too |

07.18.13 | @JumpTheF**kUp
beyerdynamic dt880s. About those, how much? |
clercqie
07.18.13 | ^ Additional comment on the DT880, those are semi-open. If you want full open, you'll need the 990s. They're about 150. I have the 770 which is the fully closed version of that Beyerdynamic line, and they sound magnificent and are really comfortable for long listening periods. I very much reccommend them.
But if you can, just go and try out a few pairs for yourself. |

07.18.13 | "audio-technica ath-m50" you do realize the akg k550's are basically those headphones but with better sound quality with a more open soundstage, better build quality and the same price, right? |
JumpTheF**kUp
07.18.13 | mine were $400 aus idk how much that is in USD or whether you'd get it cheaper over there (you can probably get them for around $300) |
dcalderon
07.18.13 | "audio-technica ath-m50" you do realize the akg k550's are basically those headphones but with better sound quality with a more open soundstage, better build quality and the same price, right?
Now I do. Of course, AKG 550 is $100 more expensive. They're supposed to be better |
JumpTheF**kUp
07.18.13 | yeah, for their price it's hard to beat the m50s. there's a reason they're so popular. |

07.18.13 | So someone is offering me this one: Sennheiser Hd 419 Headphones for $100. Should I? |

Damn it, if you really are Moses Malone, I'm getting those ;) |
DarkNoctus
07.18.13 | "Now I do. Of course, AKG 550 is $100 more expensive. They're supposed to be better" hm, i got them for £150, same that the m50's retail at. if you look i can pretty much guarantee you can find the akg 550's for a similar price to the m50's. |
dcalderon
07.18.13 | I suppose I could but
"So someone is offering me this one: Sennheiser Hd 419 Headphones for $100. Should I?"
What do you think? |
DarkNoctus
07.18.13 | i mean it's a fair price for the headphones if they're new but if you want seriously good headphones you're better off paying more to get more if the money's there waiting to be used because you'll get those, be pleased with them for a while and then just want something better considering the hd419's have the mids and highs scooped out to accommodate for more bass response and less detail
if you want sennheiser i'd go much higher in the range. otherwise, akg 550's are my recommendation if you want something along the lines of the audio-technica m50's |
DarkNoctus
07.18.13 | oh not to mention the build quality of the hd 419's is pretty poor, in fact the build quality of all the lower-end sennheiser hd headphones are fairly poor |
Alondite
07.18.13 | "go to head-fi.org and don't listen to anyone here, please"
Under no circumstances should you go to Head-Fi. Yes, there are a fair number of very knowledgeable members, but the overwhelming majority of users have no clue what they are talking about.
If you want a website with headphone advice, your best options are Changstar.com and Innerfidelity.com. |
